“Amazing place!”
Reviewed 12 January 2014

This is a very nice hotel located in the South of the island. The hospitality was very good and we loved the sport schedule that you can sign in everyday with different activities (swimming in the sea, off-road running, 50 meters pool swimming). The breakfast at the beach was very good with fruits, eggs, different types of bread and to start the day with this scenario was remarkable. The resort beach was relaxing with comfortable chairs. We do recommend this resort specially if you are a sport fan! Perfect Vacation!

Great spot and convenient to the city ( 5-10 minute drive). Efficient and polite dive shop and quite beautiful facility. Stayed in the 2 bedroom villas which were nicely appointed, workable without being luxurious in any way. Not Hyatt or 4 Seasons. Everything worked well.

Lions has 3 restaurants including a 1)seafood, 2)Italian/Pizza and 3)Hemenways,which does the breakfast/lunch/snacks/dinner/cocktails. The Pizza/italian restaurant is outstanding in what it advertises to be and has excellent service.I did not eat at the Seafood restaurant called Nemo's. Hemenways , on the other hand, misses the mark in every way. The service is comically bad to the degree it it seems deliberate. I had lunch there and it was unbelievably slow to get a menu,to get food and to get a bill. If you asked to have salt on the table, you almost got a sigh from your waitress as to the effort to bring it to you. God forbid you ask for skim milk. I was made to move tables in the middle of the meal so they could move tables around for a reasons uncertain to me. I ate there one other occasion and experienced similar lunacy.Breakfast buffet is sloppy and no other breakfast option available. Frankly the manager of the restaurant must be out of his mind as from my observations the staff were pretty much all of this rude mindset except for one waitress who I observed.Frankly needs a total overhaul and basic service training. Quite sad as the location of the restaurant is great and the bar set up is good.

Right next to Lions (literally) is The Boulevard complex which is also located on Mambo beach and has three restaurants, all of which i visited There is an Indian restaurant,a Mediterranean restaurant and a Mexican/Tapas restaurant. All really nice. There are also 4-5 beach bars and, numerous shops and a dance club on the beach most nights. Mostly locals. Quite trendy for those who are interested and a nice benefit to the resort if this is your thing.

I recommend the Lions resort but suggest you give Hemenways restaurant a total miss other than picking up a drinks at the bar.. Eat at the Lions resort Italian/pizza restuarant and also right next door at the Boulevard restaurants and also in Town. Wine Cellar is one.

We were very happy with the resort & chose to stay there because of the location. It's directly on the beach & next door to a dive shop. The snorkeling at the resort was very good with easy access. We found all staff friendly & helpful & the food good.

The rating is a weak 4/5, would have been a strong 4/5 with better service from the restaurant waiting staff.
We were 9 divers from Sweden, staying for 8 days. Naturally we loved the weather, a few rainy days but predominantly sunshine. The hotel is large but well planned, because the rooms are spread out over the premises. We had rooms in the run-of-the-house portion, nice and spotlessly clean rooms with ocean view, located on street level close to the dive center. Air-con and wi-fi worked perfectly. Beautiful beach with a small lagoon, albeit man-made. The dive center was well run and the professional staff were helpful. We mostly did shore diving around the island. What we lacked was updated maps with the island's dive sites properly marked, and descriptions on how to get there. When we used the lo-res tourist map from the dive center we ended up wrong more than once. A great improvement would be GPS rental with the dive sites pre-programmed. We went for a boat trip during the last dive day, to East Point and Klein Curacao, a relaxing contrast to shore diving. The only thing we disliked during our stay was the extraordinary low degree of service we received at the resort restaurant Hemingway. The waiting staff seem to have no clue about the correlation between their salary and customer satisfaction. We often felt that we were disturbing the staff when we wanted to order food or when we asked for the bill. I was baffled about this lack of customer service, rarely seen elsewhere in the world. We visited other restaurants on the Island and did get better service there, so it seems to be an isolated problem with the Hemingway waiting staff. In overall I liked Curacao for the weather and the diving. Will I go there again? Probably not. For the same money, including the air fare from Europe, you can get better value elsewhere.

Room Tip: The cheaper run-of-the-house rooms were great!

We spent a week holiday in this fabolous place. The flight from AMS was pretty long, especially on the quite worn and uncomfortable B767 of Arkefly.
The resort is about 35-45 mins drive from the airport. There are 3 check-in desks in the open air lobby, so the place can be quite busy when groups arrive. Be aware that Lions Dive do not accept Amex creditcards.
We chose an apartment and it was a good choice for our family of 5. It was very clean, spacious, with 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a kitchen, a living room and a balcony, looking at the sea over the pool.
We mostly had food in the Hemingway on the beach, but we also took advantage of the kitchen and sometimes we prepared some easy food for ourselves. There is a free bus service between the hotels in the area and a supermarket closeby, so you can do your shopping.
There were only a few amenities in the bathroom, otherwise no complaints.
The food in the Hemingway became boring quite quickly (especially due to the very limited variety of food during breakfast), still, the place was quite busy during the evenings, so advance booking is recommended!
The food resembled Dutch (substandard) "flavours", but for a week's stay it was okay.
The beach is relaxed and beautiful, the weather was constantly around 30 degrees C. We took the free shuttle to Willemstad, it was an interesting, small city with a few things to see.
We also took an excursion to Klein Curacao, and I highly recommend to take a pill with you against sea-sickness. Most probably you need it....
But the place worth the trip, it is simply marvellous! You spend a beautiful day over there, strolling on the beach, swimming with the turtles, enjoying a barbeque....
Finally, walk from the resort to the neighbouring Sea Acquarium, and yes, choose the swimming with the dolphins programme. It gives much much more than the simple encounter option. Although it is more expensive, but it is a lifetime experience, and the very professional staff of the Acquarium makes it very enjoyable.
In sum, Lions Dive was a good choice for us.

I stayed for 5 days. The resort is wonderful. Sunset views, beachside, with lots of activities. The activities are great for active vacationers. Ocean swims, hikes, and gym classes all included. Members of the local community also come to the gym classes. Feels like you're part of a community. We even met the owners. Situated close to the town - 15 minute bus ride, two buses a day. Great choice.

Perfect place to stay. The room we had was large, nice beds, good airco. our room was ground floor, or even better: Beach-floor. Right from the room on the beach. Not all rooms are like that but you are never more then a couple of steps from the beach. The restaurants are good. The breakfast is marvelous, breakfast on the beach, what else does one want. There is everything I needed to get more then a good start and I picked something different every day. The cook preparing pancackes or ommelettes was a gem in good food. From the hotel it is just metres walking to a boulevard with shops and from the diving school. There is a service to go to Willemstad but we rented a car for our own comfort. When I'm visiting Curacao again, I would certainly take this hotel again.

Room Tip: The rooms on the beach-level are perfect.
