“Wonderful experience!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 July 2012

Just returned from 8 days at the Curacao Marriott Beach resort and could not have been happier. I especially want to recognize Ms. Gesmeline Leito, the Elite Supervisor, for everything she did for us to make our stay as enjoyable as possible. My wife and I are Platinum members, but when we checked in there was no upgraded room to receive. However, Ms. Leito personally greeted us at check in and told us that an upgraded room would become available 2 days later. On that morning, she had all of our bags moved into our new beachfront suite, and even took the trouble to add some "welcoming touches", such as swans made of towels and chocolates on our bed, a bottle of champagne and a cheese plate, and a very touching welcome card. My wife and I travel all over the world, and stay exclusively at Marriotts, but this is among the most top-notch service we have ever received from a hotel team member. Ms. Leito is a true asset to the Marriott brand, and someone whom you should definately visit with on your next trip to Curacao!

Room Tip: The beachfront rooms are well worth any premium you might pay!

We stayed for five nights at the Marriott, from July 12-17. Absolutely beautiful. We were very impressed with the hotel grounds and our room. We had a beach front with two doubles for the 3 of us. I loved the beds and our balcony that faced the beach and beautiful water.

We ate in the Emerald Lounge our first night since we got in late. Had apps, a pizza and a couple drinks. It was adequate. We had drinks at The Boardroom on the swings and that was cool. Ordered apps a couple times from the outside restaurant at the pool. We got breakfast at the deli a couple days. We found the food and drinks to be no more expensive than any other resort.

The beach is awesome even though it's rocky. We knew this ahead of time and brought water shoes. The snorkling off the resort was fun but a little wavy. There were always enough lounges whenever we needed them. Had a front row seat to the sunset every day from here. I really liked the location of the Marriott.

The taxis are expensive, but it was the same when we went to St. Lucia. The prices are already set. We rented a car for 3 days from the Hilton next door because the Marriott didn't have any available. We walked the Hilton grounds and they don't even compare to the Marriott.

The front desk helped make our trip extraordinary. They go out of their way to be your concierge, making dinner reservations, giving directions, helping with information to make your trip more enjoyable. They are even the ones that called the Hilton for me to reserve the car when they didn't have any.

The only negatives that I feel bring this down a half star is there is not much storage in the room. We had 3 drawers for 3 of us. The other side of the dresser had a fridge which did come in handy though. There is no storage at all in the bathroom, so everything just lays out on the counter. Also, the resort seemed pretty full and I think it was hard for them to keep up with the towels by the pool and also cleaning up after people by the pool and the beach. We noticed dishes and trash left out a lot. On the other hand, though, people should be able to throw their plastic cups in the trash not leave them laying around. We also smelled the refinery a couple days. It wasn't a really, really bad smell like I was expecting, but you can smell it. One other thing, their tour person was very unfriendly and borderline rude when I was asking for information. I left her very frustrated and went to the front desk and they helped me immediately. I couldn't help but wonder why she was there if she couldn't give me some simple information.

All in all we were very happy with our stay. I would definitely book here again if we come back to Curacao. I would not hesitate to recommend the Marriott to family and friends.

Room Tip: Become a Marriott rewards member and get a decent discount on rooms. The beach front was worth the...

The room and amenities at the hotel were great-the beach, pool room and general ambiance of the place were very good. Food was a whole different issue. A large breakfast buffet was well stocked but expensive. Could order a la carte though. Lunch at the pool or at the beach was an extremely limited and pricey menu. The food was well prepared though. Dinner is best left to leaving the hotel as the Italian restaurant at the hotel was very pricey and not very appealing. Local restaurants were limited to an Indonesian restaurant and a another restaurant with mixed fare. The former was delicious, the 2nd bland. When in Curacao, you need to either cab it or rent a car to go to Willemstad, 20 minutes away for a better restaurant experience. We ate at the Gouvener and it was delicious, well priced an came with a great view overlooking the harbor.

The hotel and staff were great, although the food was overpriced, I have to say the food was good and well prepared but way over priced. Really I mean 64 dollars USD for 3 glasses of wine a bowl of French Onion soup and a Creaser Salad is a little over the top.
Drinks were the same as the food over priced but well prepared; your average cocktail was around 10.50 USD.
If you went to the beach bar and had the special it was more palatable at 6.00 USD each.
Taxi from the hotel are a rip off , a minimum charge of 15.00 each way for 4 to 6 KM taxi ride and 20 to 35 USD for anything over that distance .
A rent-a-car is 40 dollars USD a day and if you take it for the week it is a little less, gas for the week in a compact was 40 USD and we drove every day.
The hotel amenities were great and the staff friendly and accommodating, the hotel seems to be a under staffed as some days our room was not serviced until 5 pm , if you call the desk and complain they will try and get to your room between noon and 3 PM]
I would rate the hotel and facilities at 2 out of 5 with the cost of food and without the food costs considered 4 out of 5

Room Tip: Better to rent a car then use a taxi from the hotel

Had a really relaxing 6 nights here. The room was spacious and we were lucky to have a room with a garden and sea view! We always had the feeling of having plenty of space-on the beach and by the pool. The snorkelling from the beach is good fun, especially if you go in the on the right hand side of the beach, past the beach bar. The food from the Seabreeze pool bar and the Emerald Lounge is good, if a little overpriced but that's only to be expected when staying in a resort!
We had a little walk round the bay to the Hilton next door-that didn't look nearly as nice!!! Although this is a fairly big chain hotel it still manages to retain that Caribbean charm. We would stay here again, just dreaming about it now....

Dear Tomatovine~

Thank you for your comments, I am glad to hear that you had the feeling of having plenty of space-on the beach and by the pool and that you had a great time at the resort.

One of the reasons because people enjoy our resort is the great private beach and our infinity pool. To be honest with you my favorite reviews are those that had the opportunity to see other hotels on the island like you did and still acknowledge that our people and property are much better, thank you for that!!

Come back soon.

Went to this resort and it was one of the best resorts ever. The beach is quiet rocky, but we had water shoes with us. so that was no problem. The staff is also really friendly. Went to seabreeze (poolbar) for lunch. What a great service by Ianto and his team. they treated us really special. Elvis and Martis where really skilled bartenders.

Had a couple off nights dinner at seabreeze. The other nights we went to have dinner at Willemstad, thats only a 10 min drive with a cab.

I would highly reccomend this resort, and try to visit the pool bar.

Dear RM64~

Thank you for your great comments about two of our associates, as you know Ianto and Elvis work at Seabreeze Bar which is next to our swim up bar (pool) and faces the Turquoise ocean of our private white sandy beach.

Hope that you tried our signature cocktail “Curacao Sunset”, if you did not please place it in your check list for next trip, we would love to welcome you once again!

Best regards,
