“A Great Time!!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 January 2004

We stayed at the Marriott Hotel for 12 days over New Year's. The hotel was everything we hoped for and more. The staff was friendly, the hotel was clean and the breakfast buffet was plentiful.

The variety of food at the hotel was good in that they have a Deli (good pizza!) that was open from 7am till 2am, the lunch menu at the swim up bar was typical fare, but above average in quality, an ocean side dining area and a pricey Italian restaurant. Pool and beach chairs are at a premium. If the hotel is full expect 25% of the guests will not have chairs. The beach is clean but some what rocky.

Some traveling tips for Curacao: Cabs are expensive (a 3 mile trip to town is about $ 10.00 US one way) so... consider renting a car for a day to explore. Shopping is limited in terms of hours and quanity, but overall the city is clean. Sights not to miss: Fort Nassau Bar and Restaurant for a beautiful sunset view of the island riding on the floating pontoon bridge under an orange flag and Amstel Bright- a refreshing beer unique to the area.

My husband and I stayed there from December 14 to 21. We went through Apple vacations and paid $799 pp. Plus, taxes etc. The snorkeling was the main reason we went to Curacao. We've been to Jamaica, Acapulco, Ixtapa, Cancun, Cozumel, Puerto Vallarta, Bahamas and lots of other places. We only stay at good (5 or 6 apple) places.

THE HOTEL It was nice, clean and had great food. Snorkeling right off the beach was excellent. Lots of fish. Amazingly, most people didn't do more than swim. The water is warm, clear and not really rough when you get in. The pool had a swim up bar and was nice (the water is heated) and clean. It wasn't really crowded. Plenty of chairs by the pool or on the beach. The staff brings food and menus out to you, also. So you could sit by the pool or beach all day.

THE BEACHES We rented a car and went to many beaches that were listed on other websites. Some you pay for (Casa Abo) and some are free. The "free" ones are so scenic that you can't believe you have the whole beach to yourself! Of course, if you get hungry/thirsty etc, you're screwed. You're out in the middle of nowhere and if you drive somewhere else, it's not like there's gonna be a McDonalds to stop at. So pack food/drink if you want to spend the day driving and stopping. Email me for particularly good snorkel area. I wrote them on my map and rated them 1 to 5 and can tell you what they are. We also went out with some divers (there's a dive shop on the hotel property that has outtings every day) and we snorkeled while they dove. The water was 30 to 50 feet deep and full of fish. Best fish we've ever scene snorkeling - high variety and quantity. Schools and schools of them! A+ for snorkeling in Curacao overall.

OTHER It's expensive. Food killed us and we are not big eaters. Hotel buffets will set you back $20 each. Lunch is $10 for a sandwich. Plus, if you plan to drink liquor, you'll be broke in a day. $7.50 for a margarita, $6 for a beer (tiny cans) etc. Rent a car, go to a supermarket and pick up cheaper food and only eat at the hotel once a day. Restaurants in Williamstead are expensive, too. I personally didn't care for that town. I was there for the water - which did not dissappoint. Snorkeling right off the beaches was great.

We arrived in Curacao the first week of December 2003 and the weather was just beautiful. The Hotel and staff were great! We went snorklingat the hotel and I saw so many beautiful fish. The Beach does have alot of washed up broken coral but it really didn't bother us to much. The whole hotel is spotless. My husband even won some money in their Casino. The Hotel wasn't crowded which made it even better!! We didn't wait in line for anything. I just wish they had a few more restaurants to choose from. We plan on going back the same time every year if possible.

We visited Curacao Dec 3-10, 2003 and had a wonderful time! Reading previous posts, you'd think the place was infested w/bugs (it HAD rained a few days before we got there), but our family encountered NO mosquitos (plus fantastic sunny weather!) The property itself was gorgeous. We had a nice room oceanview on the second floor and a stone's throw from the pool, beach and jacuzzi, which was perfect for the kids, ages 7 & 10. We had chosen the rate which included breakfast, and ate at the breakfast buffet every morning (which was also perfect for the kids!) The staff was extremely friendly and accomodating, suggesting restaurants for us to try and giving us the detailed direction sheets to any and everywhere we wanted to go. We used the "Kids Club" program one day, and ours kids didn't want to leave! They also arranged for a babysitter one evening so the adults could enjoy a more "grown up" restaurant and gamble a little at the casino. As we went during the off season (before 12/15), the resort was very uncrowded- no wait for pool chairs! This was an ideal getaway for us, and we're going back next December!
