“More for the money”
Reviewed 5 October 2013

Have stayed here on a few occasions and it's very nice because I feel u get more for the money! Swimming pool is kinda small but everything else is perfect-great price, friendly service, very helpful staff, excellent sleep quality, and zero complaints. U feel like ur in a forest with the hotel hidden away but the ambience is very romantic and peaceful. The beds were firm and sleep quality was great.

Nice and friendly! Good staff and service! Nice size of the rooms. Great restaurant. Silent area of the island, so rent a car! If you want to eat different go to the hilton across the street. The bars closed to early. Good service with drop off and pick up to Willemstad

Room Tip: Rent a car

Rooms were spacious with a full size kitchen and living room area. Large balconies with table and chairs for relaxing, eating and hanging out. This hotel is NOT on the beach, but you can walk across the street to the Marriott and use their small beach area or drive to a more suitable beach. Hotel check in was simple. Hotel is gay friendly. Pool was open 24 hours and was big and clean. Lots of loungers around for sunning, reading, lounging out. Breakfast was included in our rate and we paid a few dollars to upgrade from continental to American, very worth the small fee. Location is not in town but a short drive will get you there. This is a good home base if you want to hang by the pool and/or socialize with the other guests or are willing to drive around. No night life within walking distance.

Room Tip: a corner room has an oversized balcony.

Luxury. Hmmmm...Luxury. Quite a few reviews I read mentioned that this property was a luxury hotel. Well I am not fussy, but this is not a luxury hotel. Mind you, it certainly has potential to be more than it is. We consistently commented to each other that it appeared that the property has been "forgotten" about. If the management would dot the "I's" and cross the "T's"...it would be magnificent. The dark mahogany wood trim on doors, mirrors and cabinets needed a good cleaning, it was splattered with who knows what. The floor in the bathroom was flooded, literally, each time we showered. We could not figure how, so as to to prevent it. The ceiling in the bathroom randomly dripped water. No towels at the pool at 1pm in the afternoon. There were no more than a dozen guests occupying the lounges, and no towels. The pool bar was closed, one day. I proceeded to the lobby bar, no one there either, I waited a few minutes, looked around, no one. I went to the restaurant and said I'd like a glass or white and a glass of red wine to take to the pool. The server handed me a white and red wine glass. I returned to the pool laughing, as my husband asked what happened to the wine? I'm sure his first thought was that I had drank both glasses on the short 100 ft walk. The garden setting is wonderful, the pool is nice. The patio and balcony area of each room is a great ammenity. However quite a few patios were missing chairs to use with the table. We moved two upholstered chairs outside when our request for chairs were ignored. What a shame that the management here is allowing this property to slip through the cracks!

Overall, Floris is a pretty nice place and we enjoyed our stay there. It could have been nicer though, as we did run into some problems that negatively affected our stay.

The good: The property is well taken care of. Smaller property that never felt *packed*. The staff is friendly and helpful. The suite that we stayed in had a full kitchen and was clean, up to date and a nice size. Hotel location was good, in that it was on the side closer to the better snorkeling areas…it would have been nicer if it was close enough to walk downtown too. The pool area is beautiful, and usually not very crowded. The overall feel of the hotel was upscale and modern. Convenient to the airport.

The not so good: No direct beach access, and the beach they share is not one of the nicer ones. The Hotel restaurant is really quite good, but it’s too expensive, so we only ate there once (and that was comped). Not much to do within walking distance.

The bad:
1. On check-in, it took three tries to place us in a room; the first try, they put us in a room that already had people in it…we walked in on a couple in bed …*embarrassing*. The second try, they put us in a room that had a major water leak, it was dripping down the walls all over the floor, and smelled strongly of mold; this room was clearly not supposed to be used. The third try finally was okay, although it was missing the dishwasher in the kitchen (other units had dishwasher).
2. Maid service was a bit hit and miss; everyday, something wasn’t done right… missing towels, didn’t refill paper products, didn’t do the dishes, etc. No big deal, but annoying.
3. This hotel was marketed as *adult oriented*, but apparently they are in a transition phase. While we were there, a large family with 5 kids was there, and they pretty much dominated the pool area. The kids were running around like feral animals. We complained to the hotel, and they said they would talk to the family, but there was never any improvement…this really disrupted our stay.
4. (The big one): When that big family went down to the pool on the first day, one of the kids had diarrhea in the pool and on the surrounding pool area. [--] was literally running down the child’s legs as he was standing there waiting for his mom. I was standing on my balcony and saw the whole thing happen. I immediately called the front desk to let them know, didn’t see anyone come tend to the issue, so I went to the front desk to talk to them in person. Still didn’t see anyone do anything. The next day, I asked to speak to the hotel manager, she wasn’t aware of the issue, and heard that my complaint was that the children were being noisy. I explained to her what happened, and she said she’d speak with the family. The next day, the manager came to see me, said she spoke with the family and they denied this happened, and that the pool service had been out to clean the pool and that everything was fine. She also gave me a comped dinner for two certificate for the hotel restaurant. Okay, so the dinner was nice, but it sure didn’t make up for what happened. For the rest of the trip, I didn’t use the pool…this really affected our trip. They should have handled this situation differently, it’s a potential health issue that was basically brushed aside.

Overall: Although the place was pretty nice, and the staff was friendly, it didn’t make up for the negative experiences that happened during our stay. Not having direct beach access also turned out to be more of an issue than I thought it would. Maybe once they fully implement the adult only policy as promised, and fine tune their service this would be a great place… but for now, I don’t think I would go back.

Dear BrettSquared,

Thank you so much for your review.
We are glad you liked the hotel and the staff. This year is a transition year for us where we are going from a traditional hotel to a hotel for adults only. We are sorry you were dissapointed to encounter a large family under unpleasant conditions. As per December this year the hotel will be stricktly 18yrs+ only. We hope that you will visit us once again i the future so that we can show you the progress made.

We stayed here for our 2nd honeymoon. We had a spacious, clean, comfortable corner room surrounded by lush vegetation. The staff were super friendly and accommodating. The first night we rode in a golf cart to check out the beach across the street. It's shared with the Hilton and is small. The next day we got a ride to Pirate Bay beach. It's also very small and there were too many water activities happening. We drove to another beach. The pool looked lovely. Unfortunately, I broke my foot on our 3rd day so we had to fly home. Even though we didn't experience much, I loved our stay here and would stay here again. I loved that they gave us a fresh beach towel every day. My only complaint would be the tree frogs! Such a noise all night long. Bring earplugs.

This is a nice concept for a boutique hotel but it is now drab, has seen better days and is in need of urgent refurbishment. It really is amazing that a hotel in such poor state can command such high rates. My only explanation is that its location next to the Hilton and the Marriott creates an option for travelers. And it is right next to the World Trade Crntre where the annual Curaçao Jazz is held each year so that it is extremely convenient for that event and can jack it's rates right up at that time.

If you happen to choose this hotel try to get a pool view room. Don't hold any expectations for the service and systems (such as check in) as they are antiquated and delivered with a certain acceptance of mediocrity.

Room Tip: Ask for a pool view room.

Dear Flydskies,

Thank you so much for your feedback. We made a start at this time to upgrade our rooms and we are working every day to improve our services. We regret that during the very busy North Sea Jazz event we could not meet your expectations. I certainly hope you will return to us next year. Please contact me at gm@florissuitehotel.com and I will certainly give you one of our brand new rooms.
