This hotel really is beautiful. Hooks Hut / beach is excellent. Why anybody would choose the concrete tower block Hilton or Marriott mainstream monstrosities (think 'Janette & Douggie from Oldham, heehee!!) over The Floris Suite is completely beyond me!!!! This Floris is stylish, clean, private, tranquil. The suites are great (personally, I would recommend a balcony with garden view, as it is the most peaceful & private option). The pool at the Floris is clean, well maintained &, like the hotel in its entirety, is beautifully designed. Go stay!!!!!!

I was "bumped" into the Floris Suites along with 6 colleagues when the Marriott was full. What a wonderful bump! The European looks and attitude coupled with the inescapable Caribbean charm is a good marriage. Large, spacious rooms, wonderful and engaging staff, location and value all blended together have given us a new favorite hotel in Curacao.

We didn't visit the Floris' nearby beach club or play tennis -- but we used most everything else including the super convenient guest laundry facility!

Six businessmen were swayed by its charms.....

I was puzzled by the mixed reviews but having stayed at the Floris I now understand that whether people appreciate it or not depends very much on what they want out of a hotel. If you want a beach hotel, pool bar and slick service then go to the Marriott. But if you like something a lot more personal and don't mind a short stroll to the beach, then the Floris is lovely.

The rooms (we stayed in a Garden Suite) are huge and stylish and the general design and layout of the hotel is very attractive. The swimming pool is gorgeous, although we only saw pool-side service once during our week. The only draw back was the restaurant. The ambiance and the service was great but it was sadly let down by the mediocre food. They definitely need a new chef to cater for their kind of clientelle. Breakfasts were OK but could have been more varied.

The nearby beach is fine for swimming but not the classic Caribbean beach. However, at night the Hooks Hut restaurant there is a very romantic place to dine on the beach, right at the water's edge, lit only by hurricane lamps.

We hired a car and did find the perfect Caribbean beach: Cas Abou which I recommend highly. The West end of the island is quite wild, though scrubby, but we hated the other end of the island which was mainly urban sprawl. I recommend the half day scuba diving trip on the Insulinde (?) sailing ship.

This is a fine hotel. Curacao is a fine island especially for scuba divers. It always kills me when people speak about the service being slow when traveling in the carribean. People, we share a different Zeitgeist than our fellow man elsewhere in the world. Can't you understand and except that you are traveling to another country where the cultural differences are not and should not be the exact same as your own. Frankly, if you are looking for the speediest service, the very best 5 star hotels, etc. New York, Miami, Chicago, come to mind.

And, some of the reviews just plain ooze racism. Ohhh my God the "locals" or the "natives" were actually out enjoying the beach, sun, and beautiful water.....whats wrong with "those people"...how dare they on my vacation..."we just did not feel comfortable". Laughable...and you wonder why Americans have such a bad wrap in many parts of the world.

Anyway, Curacao is wonderful for the adventurer who actually is not so "scared" as to rent a car and "GO WEST!" You can't visit one beach and say The beaches in Curacao are not as good as in Aruba....Hmmm are you sure? I have enjoyed a beach a day in Curacao..many times my wife and I have them all to ourselves.

Scuba Diver bretheren...hear me...You must Dive Curacao..well worth it...I must admit I like it slightly better than Bonaire.

My Two "unbiased" non "Bougie" pennies.

Happy Travels

Very deceiving!!!! The beach is not near the hotel, a very unpleasant walk past the back areas of the hilton (which by the way is a great hotel). The beach was packed with locals probably due to the easter weekend, we did not feel comfortable in the surroundings at all! We saw the Hilton from the beach and went there instead, at $10 per person for a day membership, it was a fantastic deal. The pool is great and lovely grounds, the beach bar had great food!. The Floris rooms were nice but nothing great and the pool area is way too small and overcrowded. the restaurant was nicely laid out, the food OK, the service a nightmare! Overall I would never recommend the Floris.

My wife and I just returned 03/12/05. The resort itself was nice & clean, but the resturant service was very slow although the food was excellent !! We would'nt return based on the very small & dirty beach that you have to walk almost 1/2 mile and across the street and down a long winding road to get to. The service at the beach bar/resturant is terrible, you wait forever to get served and the workers are not friendly at all. We rented a car and explored the west coast beached which were small, but very nice and clean and alot less rocks that the hotels beach has (tons of rocks).. The front desk service was excellent, anything you requested was done promtly with no questions asked. The royal poolview suite (1st floor) was very nice & clean, but the bathrooms are tiny for a suite. (1 person at a time in the bathroom). The lighting was also poor in the bathroom for women who are trying to put on makeup, or men trying to shave without cutting themselves in the dark. We would rate this resort 3 star and the only reason we marked above average is because the food was great and the resort was very clean and well taken care of. We met the owner and his wife who were very nice and spend 3 months out of the year at the resort when they are not at home in Europe..

I just returned from Curacao, staying during the week of Christmas. Originally my boyfriend and I planned to stay in Curacao for all six nights, but made arrangements to fly to Aruba instead after only two nights and spent the rest of the week there. We changed our plans partly because of the hotel and partly because of the island. Though we were aware that Curaco's beaches were not as spectacular as Aruba's, we were very surprised and disappointed by the difference.

First the Floris Suite Hotel aesthetically is a beautiful, quaint gem and the staff overall was very helpful and nice. However, we were disappointed by the private beach - La Plage at Hook's Hut - that the hotel describes on its Web site. It's a very small and not very sandy. Instead, it's located in front of a bar/grill place (Hook's Hut) and near what looks like a pier with boats, chickens running around and a parking lot nearby. Overall the beach is hardly beautiful. To get there, you have to walk across a main road and then up a dirt road.

In terms of the hotel, it's true, our sheets were not changed during our 3-night stay and the bathroom (as one previous post mentioned) floods easily from the shower. The bed was hard as a rock and there was flies/mosquitos in our room. Not sure they can do anything about that since it'd apparently rained a lot. Overall there was not a lot to do near the hotel nor AT the hotel. The fitness center consists of three cardio machines and one weight machine. Luckily it was near the Marriott and Hilton so it wasn't completely isolated. We did have lunch at the hotel once, but were disappointed by the quality of the food. Overall, the quality of the food in Curacao was ok...as we tried the Marriott and Hilton at other times as well.

If you really want more activities, amenities and beautiful beaches, then I'd recommend Aruba.
