Great location, very clean.
Rooms (pelican building) need some renovation, but size and comfort are very good.
Staff is always very friendly and helpful.
There is no possibility to mail postcards or letters and the hotel is not in walking distance to a post office.
It would be an advantage to have more offers of vegetarian main dishes in all restaurants. Esp for the Oceana it would be good to have a vegetarian dish. It has the most beautiful setting, but if you are allergic or do not like fish you cannot enjoy the experience.
The Himitsu is a positive exception. Here you get good vegetarian food.

Disclaimer: I cut, pasted, and edited a previous review because I agreed with many of the comments; and it was faster to do on my IPad.

This resort delivered a mixed albeit enjoyable experience during our week-long stay of six women, our every two year high school reunion get away to celebrate more than 40 years of friendship.

The good: extensive pools, plentiful beach chairs, a variety of activities, generally friendly staff, clean rooms and grounds, and abundantly available food and drinks. It appeared that the resort was not at full occupancy, but we enjoyed being able to visit the restaurants for dinner as an alternative to the buffet. They even had buzzers so that you could enjoy drinks elsewhere while waiting. In addition, the resort did not require any wristbands for guests. The rooms and common areas were recently freshened as part of the transition to Sunscape. Our room was spacious. We had plenty of hot water and water pressure for showering. Narrow bathtub, not easy to get in and out. Thank goodness for the grab bar.
The hotel had soft and sizeable towels for use on the beach.
TV, we appreciated that the resort had a good selection of channels in different languages (including HBO) for at night. The price appeared reasonable compared to some other all-inclusives. The property brought some live music performers on some nights, which was nice.
Big praise for vocals and party music by Elton at the special Thursday night dinner on the beach!!

The bad: the staff seemed to be well intentioned, but dropped the ball a lot. Towel supply in the rooms was limited; 2 face cloths, 2 bath towels, and no hand towels each day; we took more than two showers per day due to heat and humidity. Need I say more about the need for extra towels?

At the buffet tables, waitresses take drink orders, but there seems to be no order to who is assigned where. Therefore, multiple times we went through most of a meal or the entire thing without anyone ever stopping by, even though there were many people nearby tidying tables or just chatting.
The activities staff sets out a long list of activities that are to be going on throughout the day and the time they will occur, but regularly did not show up for the scheduled items. The resort should either issue a more manageable list that staff will be able to handle or follow the posted schedule.
The schedule included a list of restaurants that would be open for the day, but once again, actual practice sometimes deviated from the schedule. This made it difficult for our group of 6 to plan our evening meals to dine elsewhere from the buffet.

The rooms were renovated and freshened up with modern duvets and some contemporary lighting, curtains, and furniture, but ultimately the furnishing felt a bit spartan. The bathroom was like a horrible DIY job--- poorly scaled to size, and virtually no counter space.

The beach was enclosed by large rocks, It reduces the waves and makes it feel less like being near the ocean. Bring beach shoes to avoid rocks in the sand and near the shore.

The property is utterly infested with mosquitos at night in the ground floor rooms. I wonder whether there is some spraying that could be done to reduce it. We all had bites all over, bring some Repellent.

Food at the buffet was quite average and repetitive, although they did incorporate some cooking stations. Although we did not get sick, it appeared to me that cool items needed to be kept cooler than they were for food safety. The restaurant food seemed much fresher.

If you are someone who needs the internet to check in regularly at work while on vacation, this resort may not be suitable. The only place where the internet is accessible, other than for "preferred" guests, is in the un-airconditioned lobby, which is filled with mosquitos at night and an inconvenience during the day. They also charge $15/day for it, of which I was not informed, which seems unreasonable in light of the conditions you have for using it and the slow speed of it, so I learned to sit on the steps outside of the Casino to pick up a signal for free.
The alcohol drink selection could be improved by providing more high end wines, brandy, Tequila and Scotch along with the topical drink variety.
On the Boulevard shops in walking distance was nice.
Prepare for high humidity!! Stay hydrated. Carry water and a terry towel if you do any walking.
Overall, our group enjoyed our stay. Emerson, the concierge is worth his weight in gold. I would go again because of familiarity which will make my next stay at the resort easier.

Room Tip: request a room in the preferred guest building for an upgrade

I don't know where to begin! Let's just start by saying this was the most amazing vacation we have ever been on.

The rooms: My boyfriend and I got upgraded (don't know how much very appreciative) to a Junior suite in the Royal Tower Rm 2303. AMAZING view!!!! Brand new looked very newly renovated. Our friends in room 5202 just as nice of a room!!! Little bit less of a view, but we honestly showered, and slept in the room, there was just too many other things to do to spend excess time in a room! We are not picky people as long as there was a hot shower, which there was, and clean place to rest our head, which there was. I have no idea who our house keeper was but she did an absolutely over the top job, between cleaning and folding our clothes and hanging wet stuff, totally unexpected!

The Food- Have absolutely no qualms about the food. Every meal was hot and delicious. No limits on how much you could order! Our favorite was probably Himitsu, Sherman was hysterical and very entertaining with the Hibachi. *Applause Applause* We met chef Serafin one of the first nights we were there and every time he saw us he made sure everything was up to par and asked if there was anything he could do for us! He was doing a beach party for some executives the night we went for Sushi at Himitsu, but checked in to make sure everything was good! He even helped us with our bags the day we were leaving! I can't say I've stayed anywhere that a chef has been so over the top attentive!

The beach- YES most of the beach is "rocky", most of the beaches on the island are rocky, it isn't rocks it is coral! but there was more than enough places to enter the water on the beach that are not. And the water! OMG the water! Not hot, not cold, just right is is refreshing and crystal clear! The fish come right up to your feet! The snorkeling is the best I've ever seen. Word of advice take some break from breakfast or lunch and the fish flock to you! We didn't use the pool too much, did aqua aerobics with Chuchoo (so much fun!), and had a drink or two at the swim up bar, but everything was clean and saw people up keeping the pool everyday.

The staff- I've already spoke about chef Serafin, he is over the top accommodating. The staff at the bars and restaurants were all very friendly and personable, but the people who totally made our vacation, the entertainment team!!! Specifically Chuchoo, Gigo (Gwengelo), Obryan, Crazy G (Shurently), and Leo the Lion. I mention them specifically because we had the most contact with them, but the whole entertainment team we spoke to and did some sort of activity with at some point during our stay. These guys absolutely go above and beyond their job description!! They talk to you, tell you about the island, got to know us! I feel like they are friends we could have for life and would come back to not only the resort but the island just to visit them! We wanted to venture into town and to local clubs and were helpful and informative, and hopefully this does not get you in trouble, but they went out dancing with us, shopping etc as I said more than workers, they are forever friends! We miss them terribly.... I cannot come up with enough nice things to say about you guys! We cannot imagine our trip without you!

Over all an amazing experience! We cannot wait to come back and full plan on it! Thank you all for an amazing week!

Room Tip: The whole hotel is renovated! No need to be picky! We had a Jr suite 2303 and our friends a standard garden 5202, both were extremely acceptable, and how much time do you honestly spend in your room! We showered and slept!

We arrived home on Nov 18, 2013 from 2 wonderful weeks at Sunscape Curacao. We would definitely recommend this resort to others. It has recently been taken over from Beaches by Sunscape. They are busy doing renovations as quietly and discreetly as possible. The beach is beautifully sandy, with a safe swim area protected by a breakwater. We had a beautiful room with two complete window walls that opened onto a amazing view of the sunsets and ocean. There are 5 restaurants with a variety of food. If you can't find something you like to eat here, I don't think it would be their fault. The staff are all very friendly and respond with "My pleasure" every time you say thank you. Fernaline and Daicy were two particularly accommodating waitresses at the Oceana restaurant. Verama not only was a great waitress in the buffet restaurant, they would benefit by having her help train the many new staff members. Marie at the Japanese restaurant is contagiously cheerful and efficient! The hostesses at the buffet restaurant, Malagras and Danalisa were always welcoming and even began to recognize whether or not the other couple, that we met up with, were there in the restaurant when we arrived!
As part of the 'all inclusive' part of this hotel guests can, if certified, SCUBA dive once per day at the onsite dive shop; Ocean Encounters. The diving right off the shore was great. We went diving along that reef several times as well as snorkelling it. We saw just about everything we saw on the boat dives at this location. We would recommend the boat dives as well though. They have a professional, accommodating, and friendly staff at the dive shop.

Room Tip: The '7000' building has very nice rooms, especially the ones on the ends of this 'U' shaped building. Try for 7x22 or 7X01 (X = 1, 2, or 3, depending on the floor).

Thank you to Isis and Azaria in the lobby....you are both beautiful and delightful....as well as incredibly helpful...Emerson, in the lobby, you made my husbands' vacation...he went out of his way to ask you questions! O'Bryan and Gage from the Entertainment Team went out of their way to make sure we were having fun and knew what was happening during our stay! the Entertainment Team works incredibly hard and we appreciated it and had a GREAT time with all of them!
Sasha in the World Cafe was always happy to assist us, and always with a beautiful smile. Maicky in the Oceana, what a sweetheart....Jean-Paul in the Steakhouse took care of everything we asked for!
