“Best week of my life.”
Reviewed 16 March 2014

Spent the week at Sunscape Curacao. The resort is a smaller resort but that was one of my favorite parts. It was easy to get to anywhere and because if the smallness we all got familiar with the staff. The entertainment crew was outstanding! Particularly Gigo, O'Bryan and ChooChoo. Such nice guys that really helped us have lots of fun! Food was decent. Enjoyed the Japanese restaurant the most and the Oceanview Grille during lunch. Jona worked the Oceanview Grille moat days and she is the best!! I loved Sunscape Curacao and can't wait to go back.

This is a hotel you must stay at if you are in in beautiful Curacao. There is simply no alternative on the island. The service is great, staff in friendly and the location is fantastic. I wish I could be there right now again.

We went to sunscape curacao on Feb 23 till mar 2. Weather was once again great as usual. We decided to go back as we had problems the previous year with our room and a few other things and they gave us a break on the price to come back and try it again. We booked two rooms which we asked for them to be beside each other as one was for our daughter and her friend. We arrived and the check in procedure this time took about 5-10 minutes a lot faster than last time but they only had one room key as they were short on keys. they did not give us rooms beside each other instead our daughter and her friend got ocean view while we got garden view at the back of the resort. Not a huge deal as the resort is small enough that its still not far away so we kept our rooms. We did ask to upgrade to the room beside them but were told it would be 240 us to do so. We also had two double beds in our room and were supposed to have a king bed still no big deal but if you ask for it and your trying to win me over then pay attention to details of what travellers ask for. Rooms were clean and mini bars were stocked daily which was nice to see. rooms are still a bit out dated with old doors on the bathrooms. the restaraunts were all quite good we did the Italian restaurant 4 out of the 7 nights as well as the Japanese and bbq. We did the buffet one night. All were quite good but the bbq one they used a lot of bbq sauce on the steaks which my daughter wasn't a huge fan of but ribs were quite good. they have cleaned the resort up quite a bit and is still work in progress as they were bring more sand in the week we were there but some of the beach front is still quite rocky and we did find quite a bit of broken glass in the rocky area which we picked up whenever we saw it. Scuba diving is no longer included here which was a major draw to the resort so not sure how that will affect the resort. Snorkeling as always was great right out in front of the resort and you could spend hours checking out all the fish. Same as other travellers I gave the resort 4 stars but it is still only a 3 1/2 as the buffet was the same food everyday until our last day during the day when they changed it up a bit. they did have more entertainment here this time which was nice to see and almost all staff were very friendly except one bartender who seemed to be grumpy all the time. The ocean bar was the hit bar as baby love I believe her name was made our trip from good to great and asked her to send some sunshine to the grump that works at the bar when shes not there. Anyway great time this time around and if your looking to get away with warm water great snorkeling and lots of food and drinks then look no Further. Lots of things to do close by such as 4 wheel dune buggys and ocean park swimming with dolphins. as well as little curacao that you can get to by boat 2 hrs away. We did have porpoises swimming beside the boat on our way back from a day on the island.

Travelled with a larger group and had coordinated to be in preferred building altogether. Ended up separated in the older buildings and took two days and may room switches to get everyone together. Staff is very friendly and snorkelling was great. Dealt with a food allergy in the family very appropriately. They put a lot of effort into the New Years Eve festivities we a lot of fun. Beach is a little rocky and definitely need water shoes for parts of the beach.

Traveled with 2 other couples for 2 weeks (Feb 23-Mar 9) at Sunscape (Sunwing). We had a wonderful time at this AI resort as well as touring the island. We highly recommend Sunscape/Curacao and would go back.

Important to note - this resort is wheel chair friendly. For diabetics - food service is available starting around 6:30am until late in the evening.

We stayed in Building 2, Royal Tower with resort and ocean view.

Positive feedback worth repeating.
• exceptional, helpful, hardworking, and friendly staff, Omar, Gaby, Milagros, Roshan, Elli (Japanese Restaurant), Prince T, Chocoman and so many others.
• Staff was eager to help us learn Papiamento.
• check in/check out a breeze – concierge very helpful throughout our stay
• 5 restaurants that served a wonderful variety of meals. Standing in line to wait to be seated (at all but the buffet restaurant) was a fun way to meet other guests.
• a great coffee bar (cappuccinos, lattes, baked goods)
• our group really enjoyed the ice cream counter
• 4 bars to choose from that served a wide variety of drinks and were rarely crowded because the service from all the bartenders was fast
• good protected beach
• clean grounds, clean rooms with hair dryer, iron and mini bar service
• the right amount of day/night poolside entertainment and fun loving entertainment staff. We appreciated the staff bringing Carnival to us as well as hosting the 2 evening beach dinners/parties. All entertainment ends at or before 11pm.

There were some mosquitoes/sand flies but not nearly as many as some other islands we have been to and very few bites to report. Hint – use bug repellent at night when dining on the beach.

Snorkeling was easily accessible right off the beach. For those who are avid snorkelers, while we saw lots of fish on both sides of the man made reef, the variety was not quite as good as Bonaire and Roatan.

The island of Curacao was easy to get around and the town of Willemstad was clean, colourful and the people very friendly. The town was only a short 10 minute bus ride from the resort at $1.50 per person. The Sea Aquarium was a 10 minute walk from the resort and worth the price of admission (seniors only $11.00). US dollars and most credit cards accepted everywhere.

Wifi is available at a cost if you are not a Preferred Club Member. Hopefully the resort will consider not charging guests for WiFi in future.

For those who posted negative reviews, don’t expect everything to be like home, this is after all the Caribbean. A positive attitude would probably have yielded a more positive experience. A sunny day on any island in the Caribbean during the winter months has got to be far better than any day shoveling snow.

Room Tip: Heron (bldg 5), Ibis, Seagull Buildings (all 2 story Garden View Classification) do not have balconi...

I gave this resort 4 stars, but it really falls at about 3-1/2. I wanted to love this place, and it started out that way. The resort location is great! Just 10 minutes drive outside the capital of Willemstad, and the resort beach area boasts a coral reef with crystal clear water and superb snorkeling ( I saw many different types of reef fish as well as a few octopus). Upon arrival we were upgraded to a master suite ocean front (wow!), and for the first two days, we received amazing VIP treatment from all the staff. I wondered if they thought we were someone else? Anyway, the top notch service quickly disappeared for the rest of our trip. I should note that we are pretty laid back travelers that aren't normally very picky, so thankfully, we still thoroughly enjoyed our suite, resort location, and the resort itself, for the most part. Here is a run down of our experience.

Service - As mentioned, it started out great! Initially everyone was extremely attentive and we had several head managers seek us out to introduce themselves, ask if we needed anything, and request feedback regarding our experience. Unfortunately it did not remain for the entire trip. We mentioned a few minor issues and they said they'd take care of it, but there was never any follow through or follow up. We only received the daily activity sheets twice in our room (were told we would receive them every evening) and by the time we came down to the concierge they were gone, so it was hard to know what was going on each day. We requested additional U.S. compatible outlets since there were only two in the entire suite (not in places that were conducive to placing electronic devices) and we couldn't charge our devices, they said they'd take care of it but didn't. Had the service not been so amazing to start out with, our expectations wouldn't have been so high, so it was just disappointing that it completely fizzled out as the week went on.

Food - The food was good, not as good as we've had at other all-inclusives, but decent. We had some issues with room service not getting orders correct (missing milk for cereal, not bringing the right yogurt, missing condiments), but the food was good and we enjoyed eating on our balcony overlooking the ocean. The buffet had a decent selection, but it didn't change much from day to day. Made to order omelets in the morning, burgers at lunch, and a pasta station at dinner, and various other food stations. One issue - they boast "fresh" juice but it is far from fresh, just highly processed orange flavored drink or fruit punch from a bottle. The Japanese ala carte restaurant was pretty good, however the chef's constant request for applause got a little old after awhile. Steakhouse and seafood restaurants were okay, Italian was probably my favorite as far as food but they could've used some music or something inside for ambiance. One thing to note, this resort does not do reservations for the ala carte restaurants like many other all-inclusive resorts do, they are all first come first serve, so there are generally lines at each restaurant when they open, but you can usually get in pretty easily within 30 minutes of opening unless you are part of a big party.

Room - Our master suite ocean front (#2401) was simply amazing. Terrific view of the ocean, three balconies, two bathrooms, pullout couch, soaker tub, plenty of room, and updated nicely. The king size beds were very comfortable. They had iHome alarm clocks in the room and a flat screen TV, as well as a full kitchenette with microwave, fridge and cooktop (although no cookware). The floors were tile but looked like hardwood, which was a nice touch. A few small issues: the light in the master bath shower didn't work, the windows were very thin and we could hear lots of noise at night from resort beach parties or loud music from the resort next door until 1-2am each night (had to use to ear plugs to sleep, and they did not work well with a 4 year old). They could benefit from screens on their sliding doors, since mosquitoes tend to get bad at night, but we just closed the doors after 5pm as recommended by staff. Otherwise we loved our room.

Kids Club - Our 4 yo daughter went to the kids club twice during our week long stay, and she enjoyed it. They run it more like a summer camp than daycare, with several activities going on throughout the day. They do crafts, a visit to the neighboring aquarium, games, etc. They had an evening "campout" with marshmallows, a movie outside, and hot dogs, which was fun. You can drop off your kids at any time but you have to remain on property, they give you a pager in case you need to be reached.

Overall - The resort needs a little TLC - Sunscape was formally Breezes, and they have some renovations needed: painting, railings that need replacing around the pools, landscaping that has been torn out and not replaced yet. We saw staff actively working in various areas around the resort so I think it is in the works, hopefully it will get better. Another couple we met had serious issues with two different rooms - no hot water, a clogged shower drain, electrical problems, that were not resolved until the day before they left, and all they were given was some VIP status and resort credits for massages, so beware that not all rooms may be equal. And part of our stay included $200 in resort credits, but they really discount vouchers and nothing more, with several stipulations on how much you need to spend and what they can be used on.

In the end, we enjoyed our stay largely because we loved the island and our ocean view room, not necessarily because we loved the resort. Would we go back? To Curacao, definitely. While the resort wasn't terrible by any means, we would likely stay somewhere else.

Room Tip: Suite #2401 was nice but very noisy location at night.

I had a fantastic vacation at Sunscape and I must say that the Entertainment Team made it more enjoyable than I thought possible, The guys are all very hard working and friendly and they make every effort to encourage guests to participate in activities both during the day and at night. They really made my vacation memorable! I can't wait to visit again!
