Today we visited Soufriere Bay and it's Bubble Beach Spa. Located in front of the church of Soufriere. There were more bubbles than we had seen at Champagne Reef a few days before. It's a nice spot for snorkeling and there are these pleasantly surprising areas in the sea where the water is really warm. The beach itself is very nice with a bar, benches under the trees, a changing room, sunbeds and even a massage room. The fee for all this is a donation: height to be decided by yourself.

Bubble Beach Spa is in the small fishing village of Soufriere approximately a 20 -30 minute bus ride from Roseau. Here right by the shore a young local called Dale Mitchell has set up an area so that you can experience the hot sea water and the volcanic bubbles that come up from the sea bed to the surface.

Dale has built a small changing room, and a basic beach bar where you can buy drinks and sit by the water’s edge. He’s used stones and pebbles to enclose an area where the water is at its hottest so you can sit and enjoy the very warm sea water. He shows you where to snorkel amongst the bubbles and where the reef is to see fish and coral. Dale keeps the area very clean and tidy and just asks for a small donation for its upkeep.

The snorkelling is very good and to see all the bubbles rising is quite amazing. It is lovely to sit in the warm pool too, just to relax. On some days a local girl does massages.

Bubble Beach Spa is right in front of the church (which is worth a look inside). It is well signed and easy to find. To get to Soufriere by bus walk straight ahead from the cruise ship terminal past the souvenir market and directly behind is where buses leave for Soufriere. The fare is 4 EC$ and the drivers will also accept 2 US$.

Great experience and well worth the trip to this beautiful, natural, unspoilt and peaceful area of Dominica.

Fantastic experience to lie down in shallow sea water and see the bubbles coming up from the ground. At a short ride there is also the hot tub, Roman style, but the water there is much hotter.

Soufriere is a small fishing village that is both beautiful and unspoiled. After Soufriere is Scotts Head, which is a small point of land on the other side of a narrow isthmus that separates the Atlantic and the Caribbean. There is a short trail on Scotts Head that offers fantastic views of the bay and Soufriere. This is a photographer's dream spot.

We had been at Champagne and took the bus south to the town of Soufriere for $1pp. We were told that the bus would let us out at the Soufriere Hot Springs just above the elementary school. However the bus driver said it would be more money to take us there so we decided to walk, as we had read that many ppl walk it. As we walked we passed the school, with the kids in there uniforms. Wow do they have beautiful playground views. As they play on their huge field, they can look up at the gorgeous mtns. As we walked up the street, we met various kids with their parents heading back to school. We think it was their lunch break. It was nice to visit w/some families. Due to time, we didn't hike all the way to Soufriere Hot Springs, but decided to turn back and visit the church and the hot springs at the beach. We just headed down toward the water, made a right turn at the end of the road and there was the church. Very beautiful church that faces the bay/beach. We visited and then headed to the beach. It had a small dressing room and a couple of benches. There in the water were two separate areas. There were large stones/rocks that made a small pool. One was large and the other small. We went into the large one. It is only about knee high. We sat in the water and it was warm. We couldn't believe it, here we sat in warm sulpher water looking at a beautiful church. Then we turned around and we sat there looking at the big, beautiful bay. There were some colorful fishing boats in the distance. It was like a postcard, and there we sat all by ourselves. Now this was a vacation. After a while, we needed to leave and as we were getting dressed, a local came, disrobed and got in the large pool in her swimsuit and told us that it wasn't very hot. She said that sometimes it is too hot to enter. Interesting. We just loved the peace and quiet and beauty of the area. As we left, there was a sign that asked for donations to maintain the area, so we donated. We walked back to the bus stop and caught a bus all the way back to Roseau for $2pp. We enjoyed to visit w/locals and what a great day!
