Review of Waitukubuli Trail

Waitukubuli Trail
Reviewed 18 June 2014

This trail is unstoppable. Its incredible. I've hiked a lot in my life and I've never hiked anything like this. Each segment is wild and quite different from each other as they spam the whole island. The trail is very well marked. The difficulty ratings are pretty spot on but the distances are off.... best to contact someone on here or through Discover Dominica if you are worried. If you are adventurous, this is your place.

this was the best adventure i've ever had! hiked all 14 segments solo in the first 2 weeks of april 2014, the best weather ever. check with the forest service before you go to see the conditions and know if the trail is well marked with it's typical blue and yellow paint. yes it is a moderate to advanced / technical trail with steep ups & downs, so be in shape. after finishing the trail, there were many more trails to waterfalls as well as historic cross country trails, 1) perdu temps (guided by zion valley people) and 2)chemin l'etang (from grand fond with henry pollido). total enjoyment

Believe the book times. Very beautiful though. Kinda sketchy on planning places to stay but worked out well. We didn't go back in the jungle with segmant 7 but walked the coast and finished on 14.

We have taken only a part of it (as we were with small kids) but we apreciate the idea of the trail where you can treck across the most important sites in the country and see all the stunning views!

pack those hiking boots and geta gude locally , find one from the taxi drivers at rouseau water front ,they charge us$40 for a days hike, explain clearly your limitations to them and they will escort at your pace and start early around 06 30 , head for the trails , but seriously dont attempt without a guide as its not all very well sign posted and be easy to get badly lost! the maps are diagramatic at best! it goes through/ over private land and some owners have removed markers !the views and the flora and fauna are superb , make sure you include boiling lake in your hikes and fort shirley , but its all good take plenty of water and some snacks as there is little about on most trails , Dominica does not have saw grass so no need to wear trousers , shorts are fine , but you do need a stick as paths can be narrow and slippy , enjoy
