“Beautiful Boutique Hotel | Wonderful People | Will Return”
Reviewed 11 February 2013

This is a beautiful boutique hotel in the heart of the Zona Colonial. You can easily walk to all the points of interest. Anyone wanting to spend a few days (or longer) in Santo Domingo should spend it here in my opinion.

The rooms are clean, spacious and well maintained. The bathroom I had was excellent. I had a robust and reasonably fast WIFI connection in my room and in the lobby throughout my stay.

The hotel itself has a wonderful Moorish design with colonial Spanish accents. There is a marvelous central courtyard with tables and umbrellas where you can dine. Also, there are a couple of different anterooms, and smaller courtyards which are comfortable and charmingly appointed. There is also a nice roof deck with a small but well maintained pool.

The staff are very pleasant and very helpful people. Rosemary, in particular, was helpful with maps, dining recommendations, etc.

Highly recommend it

Overall this is a great choice if you want to be in the Zona Colonial. Other people have already covered most of what I would have said, so I'll just note a few things. Our room was a good size, charming, and comfortable. Wifi worked well in our room on the third floor. The only real negative for me had to do with early-morning noise. First, each morning church bells (I assume from the nearby cathedral) tolled for quite some time starting at 7:00 or 7:30 am, waking me up; we were there on Sunday and Monday morning, so I don't know if this is an everyday thing or just a matter of timing, since we were there on the feast day/national holiday of Our Lady of Altagracia. If you think of it as local flavor, it's a positive! Also, one morning someone in the hotel started drilling right near our room soon after the church bells rang; we didn't complain but were mildly annoyed, and the staff should try to wait until later in the day to do that kind of work. Our room overlooked the courtyard, so we also had to tolerate some early loud talkers at breakfast. Otherwise the room was quiet. The provided breakfast varies depending on what time you go -- it starts off as just continental, then includes hot food, and then switches back to continental toward the end -- so if you need a hot breakfast be sure to confirm the hours. We didn't use the small pool, exercise room, or other facilities. The Hotel Palacio is a convenient base for explorations of the Zona Colonial, and the front desk has small maps of the area to help you find your way around (which we didn't realize until we were checking out).

Room Tip: We were on the third floor; if you're in reasonable shape you'll probably want to use the st...

Dear Guest,

We feel gratefull for your good comment.
The bells sound you were talking about, happened for the national holiday of Our Lady of Altagracia.
Finally thank you for taking your time to comment about us.

This large historic building was reportedly the home of a former president of the country, who must have done very well for himself. Our (windowless) second-floor room was HUGE, with a large anteroom and several really awful paintings of colonial-era sailing vessels. The bathtub was probably large enough to float the Nina, the Pinta or the Santa Maria; there was also a very good shower. We arrived late and left early to catch a plane, so didn't have a chance to sample breakfast or the amenities: e.g., pool, gym. However, there was satellite TV and WiFi. The location is good, just off the pedestrian-only street that runs through town. We paid $170. Not sure the premium over the El Beaterio B&B down the street at $100 was worth it.

Hotel Palacio was lovely. Don't expect a luxury hotel, but for sightseeing zona Colonial it is ideal. Staff was very helpful. The rooms are simple, the patio has a very Spanish feeling. The staff will help set up transport to and from the airport. They work with taxi driver Enrique who picked me u and escorted me to the toll road to Samana the next day when i picked up my rental car. Very helpful and caring. Very much recommend this hotel. The hotel is in the heart of zona Colonial and for solo travelers, ideal and safe if you want to go out in the evening to have some dinner.

What a great little hotel. This hotel is tucked away from the main pedestrian
Street. The hotel has great charm. The bathrooms are large as well as the rooms. The breakfast that is included is buffet or maid to order. The hotel staff is there to help with anything and are super helpful. Make sure to eat dinner at the little restaurant inside the hotel. The food is reasonably priced and amazing. The chef makes everything from scratch. We will definitely go back.

Room Tip: Get a room on level two, three, or four as the ones on the 1 st floor are a bit dark. However, the...

I'm here with my 85 year old mother, who is quite comfortable here. There is an elevator to the upper level florrs. We have not experienced any of the noise problems that others describe. In fact, the hotel is quite quiet and charming.

The pool is small but works to cool off during the heat of the day.

The hotel is a short walk to all kinds of sites and shopping--just a block from the supermarket--and a couple of blocks from most of the major attractions of the colonial city. The internet is wonderfully fast and the airconditioning works great and the guest controls it--a definite plus. I'd absolutely come back!

Room Tip: Choose a room that is not on the ground floor. Many rooms have little private balconies.
