“Best Hotel in town”
Reviewed 29 September 2013

Recently stayed at the hotel in Santo Domingo, and I was very pleased with the hotel. The hotel recently renovated, spacious and elegant rooms. New design of the lobby and all common areas. Good food and service. The staff was attentive and pleasant. I would highly recommend this hotel for business or vacations.

The staff of this hotel go to extremes to make you feel at home. They always address you by your name, and welcome you with an honest smile. The restaurants are also great, with a varied menu (hint: the codfish fillet with caper sauce is exquisite). I've been going there for years. The hotel was recently refurbished and they did a very nice job.

Room Tip: 1) Ask for the refurbished rooms. 2) Unless you like parrots ask for the south side, it's quiet...

The service is polite, solicitous and helpful. Good food. The spacious rooms, common spaces and general facilities have been recently renovated and actualized. A business and family hotel that invites to disconnection after work. Highly recommended. A must when staying in Santo Domingo.

Nice pool, nice breakfast, nice conference rooms, nice rooms as well. Only thing is, the hotel cabs charge double than what they would charge if you call your own, so be mindful of that. Other than that, great hotel in Santo Domingo.

Our company made an event here and it was great! The service, the food, the attentions were excellent! Specially Rachel Caceres, Elsa Reyes & Mr. Vittini were very polite and eager to help! The recent renovation made by the hotel is beautiful, it seems clean, modern and smell very good!

I have stayed in this hotel many times over the past years - until recently it was showing signs of needing some upgrades. I checked in on 9 September and was told I had been placed in an upgraded and refurbished room - when I got there I could smell the newness - better design and layout plus new bathroom (although they need still to address the smell from the wet shower curtain).
Overall my experience was far better than in recent times in the "old" rooms.
The staff also appear to be making a big effort to please the guests.
A good thumbs up.

Room Tip: Make sure you ask for an renovated room.

DO NOT BOOK THIS HOTEL IF YOU PLAN TO SPEND ANY SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF TIME IN YOUR ROOM BETWEEN 9 AM AND 6 PM. - THE NOISE IS INTOLERABLE. Requesting a Superior Double, we were given Room 422; only to find that the entire 5th floor is under renovation. The afternoon of our checkin, the noise from upstairs wasn't anything too offfensive, and work stopped at about 5:30 pm. We looked forward to a quiet morning before catching our plane in the afternoon. Promptly at 9, someone started using a hammer-drill inot the floor above which was also our ceiling -deafening. I complained. and Guest Services said they'd take care of it. Noise directly overhead stopped - for about 15 minutes, then back to rat-a-tat-tat. After waiting a bit to see if this was only a spasm, I went down to the front desk to complain. The Front Desk Manager was not particularly sympathetic, but rather defensive of the renovation needs. He did undertake to go talk to the construction people, and this did keep the noise down to a tolerable leve until we checked out. I feel that we, and any other guests in the area, were treated very poorly by management.

This is too bad because the public areas of the property are very attractive, and food and beverage staff, bellmen, etc., are friendly and service-oriented.

The hotel's definition of a "Superior" room is a bit overblown. The room decor and furnishings are nice enough, but don't exceed the "Standard" level in most modern properties in this price range. For example, room size is about what you'd find in a decent Holiday Inn or Best Western; bath is small and fixtures are losing their plating, and neither tissues nor wash cloths are provided -- and so on.

Room Tip: Be sure you are not under or beside renovation construction.
