When we went here it was closed for some sort of repair. We could still walk around the fort and there is some good fishing and snorkeling down below the fort. There are a few other small beaches near the parking area but the main attraction here is the fort.

If you are going to have to do a little traveling to get here I would recommend trying to find out if they are going to be open before you make the trip.

I'm sure that this is interesting to people who like the histories of war but this wasn't worth my time! Everybody in Puerto Plata are waiting for tourist to show up so they can harass them to buy something. Also, Puerto Plata is a dangerous cuidad!! That's city for those who don't understand spanish. Puerto Plata is in a desperate situation. No jobs, no opportunities and a lot of violence.... I should know, my wife is dominican. She lives in Santiago and she doesn't want to go to Puerto Plata......

Don't expect the Citadelle of Cap Haitien here. The fort is a simple square building where you can take your picture to remember the place (not the building) . The point offers nice views though in the bay and the hills

did this as part of puerto plata tour it was quite interesting they give you an audio guide when you enter which is supposed to explain what every room is about unfortunately all the ones we had were somewhat faulty but it did not distract from what we saw and learnt
