“Literally the worst vacation I've ever had.”

This place is just terrible. The food is awful, the bars close early, the alcohol is watered down, the staff AND other guests were rude as can be. It doesn't say so on the website, but you can only eat at restaurants other than the terribly disgusting buffet two times during your stay. The buffet and bars aren't always open During their stated hours. You have to get your own drinks when you are eating. They don't put what is stated on the drink description in the drinks you order. The nightly shows are repetitive and boring... Oh and also the only thing to do aside from eat at night. The "free" things to do with your all inclusive aren't free at all. you have to pay insurance on any equipment you borrow to use for your all included excursions. There are sales people walking along the beach and interrupting your conversations, book, nap or relaxation trying to sell you things... Nearly every five minutes. you cannot get a moment of peace. I WILL NEVER RETURN TO THIS RESORT. it was a completely miserable experience of rude people, bad food, and utter boredom. If I could rate it lower than a 1 I would.

Grand paradise playa dorada is one of the greatest places I've been and I love to travel... I was just here in April for my birthday but I loved it so much I'm back again already in June lol this hotel has beautiful beaches and the staff is the most amazing group of people you will ever meet
Entertainment staff is so welcoming and is always making sure your stay is going well and it's not just one of them it's all Amaury, Johnathan, Joel, Rafael and even there newest member Johnathan AKA Javier those group of guys have made me feel like family and I would recommend this hotel my all my family and friends no questions asked.

My daughter and I have just returned from 2 weeks at the Grand Paradise and we just can't praise it enough. The food was excellent and all the waiters/bartenders were only too pleased to be of service to us and worked extremely hard. I mentioned the food to the Head Chef who was equally pleased that I had mentioned it. It was nice to see hand sanitizer machines on entry to the dining room and most public places.

Special thanks must go to Maria Teresa and Francis on Reception who helped us out on more than one occasion - thank you Maria and Francis.

The rooms are very clean and have everything from mini-bar, iron and ironing board etc. At first the maintenance in the room left a lot to be desired, but within 5 mins the maintenance staff were in attendance and rectified the various problems.

The entertainment team - well what can one say - they were all brilliant. They were polite, worked extremely hard and wanted to entertain the guests in the hotel. Thank you Joel, Amourie, Eris, the 2 Jonathans and Janet.

Everywhere was clean - was a little disappointed with the local people when they arrived that they just left their paper cups, crockery anywhere for others to clean up, but nevertheless they were there for a good time and they made sure they did.

The beach is just a step away from the Hotel and the first impression is that you feel you are in paradise. The downside, there are too many traders on the beach to the point of being annoying. It is a pity they do not have their own stalls whereby if you wish to purchase something then you can and browse, not to be hazzled every 5 mins.

Look out for Sandra on the beach who sells trips at very good prices. We got conned at the Plaza, close to the Hotel when we used the "hole in the wall". Be careful when changing money. However following immediate investigation, the problem was resolved and the gentleman in question lost his job immediately, plus further action. The Dominican Police and other staff who carried out the investigation were highly embarrassed that a Dominican should do this to a Tourist.

We really could not fault this Hotel and would certainly love to go back. As a bonus to us, we should have left on the 15th June, but due to the Aircraft having to turn round enroute to Dominican, unfortunately or fortunately for us we had to stay over . It cost us 200 Dollars for the night.

Room Tip: Superior rooms are more spacious

My boyfriend and I stayed at Grand Paradise for one week at the beginning of April and had a great time! We booked through iTravel2000.com for a price of $903 pp. w/tax departing from Toronto.

Check-in:

We arrived at 11am; most of the people who got off our bus ended up having to wait until at least 3pm for their room. We had booked a large Ocean View Suite and didn’t have to worry about waiting. We were told we had one of the nicest rooms on the resort and were quickly escorted to our room.

Room:

Our room really was nice. It was huge: it had a living room, bedroom, kitchen, awesome patio and bathroom. The fridge was stocked daily with water, Sprite and Coke. The maid service was great – although she did miss cleaning our room one day. That might have just been because the sign that you put on the doorknob to clean the room often was blown away by the wind though.

Yes, the shower took a little bit of time to heat up but it wasn’t a big deal. The showers were nice and the cool water was refreshing after a hot day at the beach.

We had an issue with our toilet leaking but it was taken care of fairly quickly.

Food:

We loved the food here! The live food station (the one where someone cooks you something, like burgers, etc.) changed daily so we never got bored. We also didn’t get sick from any of the food – and we ate a LOT! Safe to eat food is very important to us.

Our only disappointment was with the A la carte Italian restaurant: Michelangelo. We would have been better off eating at the buffet. The service was SO slow! It took 45 minutes just to get our appetizers, which came out wrong! The food also tasted like it was from the buffet. Nothing special. The atmosphere of the restaurant was nice and the staff was great at getting us liquored up after dinner but it was definitely a let down.

Beach:

The beach was beautiful. It was windy most days but that could have just been from the time of the year that we visited. Yes, vendors will come up to you and try to sell you things but if you say you’re not interested, they’re very good at respecting your wishes and walking away. They never harassed us. We ended up purchasing all of our excursions from Elvis, on the beach. He was wonderful and I would definitely recommend him. Sometimes it was nice just to chat with the vendors too – see what they’re selling and to get to know them. They’re all very nice people.

Pool:

We didn’t end up using the pool but it looked nice. We enjoyed watching the pool activities and wished we had gotten a chance to join in on them.

Entertainment at the resort:

The night shows were awesome! The animation staff is fantastic. If you got bored on the resort during the day, there was mini golf, a billiards table, Foosball table and a few other options of things to do.

Nightlife:

There is a disco at the resort which we went to one night. It was pretty quiet the night we went but the DJ actually played decent music. There’s a bar in the disco that’s included, so you have easy access to free drinks. We also attended the “white party” which was held one night on the beach. It was further away from the resort (but within walking distance) and drinks were not included. The music was still pretty good and so was the turn out. Just a bit disappointing that you had to pay extra for drinks.

Location:

The location is a plus. It isn’t too far from the airport and just a short drive into town. There’s also a little mall right next to the resort (it’s less than a 5 minute walk away) which has a bank with a better exchange rate than the hotel does.

Staff:

The staff were all very friendly. The only issue we had was upon checkout. We were told that we used the wifi and had to pay for it. The only wifi we used was the free one hour code that was given to us when we checked in. For some reason, it still worked after the hour. We didn’t authorize a payment though. On checkout, we were told that we were being charged for it. It took a bit of arguing, but eventually they let us go without having to pay for the wifi. Just be weary of this.

// all in all, this was a great resort. Especially for the cost. It’s not a 5-star hotel so don’t expect 5 star service. If you walk into this resort expecting that, you’re setting yourself up for disappointment. The resort was clean, the bed was comfortable and service was generally prompt. For what you pay, and what you get, there’s little to complain about. Just enjoy

Had a great time, place was fantastic. Can't wait to return. If you love to walk on the beach, this is the place to go, you can walk and walk, and walk, need I say more.
The choice of food was not lacking, something for everyone and it was all good.

We spent 4 nights, 5 days in this beautiful oasis back in 2005. Everything about this place was fantastic. The rooms were spacious and very clean. Our suite was over 2 floors. Downstairs, you had the open bedroom that had a terrace off of it. The spiral staircase in the corner led upstairs to the bathroom (spacious, with a tub and shower) and another bedroom with double beds. The resort has 3 different restaurants and various pools + that beautiful beach. The food was awesome. The resort had planned a couple of day trips for us including The tour of Puerto Plata w Cable Cart and Brugal Rum factory. The customer service here is superb! People just seemed to want to take care of you. We went during the month of September and there was a lot of rain. However, the rain is short lived and when it ends, it seems like it never happened. DR is a very beautiful to visit and this resort is pretty special.
