VH Gran Ventana Beach Resort

Reviewed 15 July 2010

We have just returned from a 2 week stay at the Gran Ventana Beach Resort. Before going on holiday we continually checked trip advisor for reviews as this was our first visit to the Dominican Republic, at one point we even enquired about changing our accommodation before we left because some people's review's concerned us but we are so happy we stuck with our original choice as we had the best holiday ever.

The hotel was great in all respects. The full hotel including rooms, walkways and the beach were spotless clean. The staff were excellent and not one person would walk past without a friendly smile and a chirpy Hola. The choice of food in the buffet restaurant at all three meal times was excellent and there was something for everyone. Freshly prepared omelettes for breakfast, barbecue chicken at lunch and fresh roasts for dinner. The 3 a-la-carte restaurants were also very good and the service was great, you never seen an empty glass the whole time you were there, the Italian was especially good.

The hotel sits right on the beach and is a 2 minute walk from the plaza shopping centre where you will find Coco Bongos, Hemmingways and Roadway. The location is great and is central to all local amenities.

The entertainment was good fun and included all ages from the kids mini disco to adult icebreakers, Michael Jackson dance tribute shows and Karaoke. The entertainment staff worked very hard throughout the day to keep everyone entertained, a daily beach volleyball challenge, water aerobics, water volleyball and games, big thank you to all the staff especially, Donkey, Eddy, Mini Me and Joseph.

The trips available at the hotel though the holiday reps are excellent, we enjoyed swimming with dolphons at Oceanworld, getting thrown around on Megatrucks and relaxing on Paradise Island, all highly recommended. The Megatrucks are a must just to experience the looks on the local childrens faces when you hand them a few sweets, thank you to our great tour guide Mr Harrison Kelly!

Overall we had a fantastic holiday and this was mainly due to the service provided by the hotel and the friendlyness of every staff member we came across, so thank you Gran Ventana for a great 2 weeks and hopefully we will be back soon but possibly for 3 weeks next time.

Unfortunately, our room 3110 (and for the most part that entire wing) had LOTS of mildew throughout. I requested a different room multiple times and was told "we'll send someone to fix it" and then "we're too full to move you." So we kept the sliding glass door open as much as possible (thus letting in mosquitos as there is no screen available). When we got home, we had to wash everything immediately as all of our closed had a horrible odor embedded in them.

On the positive side, service was excellent. Food was fine for an all-inclusive. The huts on the beach were awesome and the pool is great.

Too bad a smelly room had to dominate a week long vacation with the family... - Bart

We have returned from a two week stay at the Gran Ventana and we had a fantastic time. Firstly the hotel is nice, very clean and the staff are great. They are not always on the want for tips unlike other places. The food was unfaultable, plenty of choice and taste, all the meat was of good quality and extremly tender. The rooms are ok, bog standard but you dont go on holiday to spend a fortnight in your room. The are clean and comfortable. We met some great people and made some new friends aswell as having a good time, what more do you want??
Downside is the that the hotel fills up with domincans on Saturdays through to Sundays and they tend to take over the place and look at you like crap. They seem to forget that if it wasnt for us they wouldn't have the complex in the first place!!

We've just returned from a trip to the Dominican Republic and we stayed at this hotel. We had a great time and hotel staff were excellent. We thoroughly enjoyed the whole two weeks despite one or two minor problems that were dealt with promptly and professionally. Overall this hotel offers very good value for money, however the rooms are a little tired and would benefit from a refurb, the things missing for me were storage space and ironing facilities in the room. All the eating facilities were very good quality and I was surprised to read adverse reviews about these. I have been to many top class hotels and fared worse. The reception, grounds and surrounding areas were imaculate and entertainment staff tried really hard to ensure everyone had a great time.
We met loads of lovely people both working and staying in the hotel and would return there in a minute. And a special word also for the Thomas Cook rep at the hotel who was charming and helpful when ever asked for assistance. Ocean World was superb and the dolphin shark sea lion combo a must. Dinner and the Bravissimoshow is also a good night out. Excellent!

Wonderful place. Our first All Inclusive Trip - too short a stay, going back for twice as long this fall. They clean constantly, Coconut Man has coconuts for you, pool bar-tenders are great. Lots of food on buffet, loved the morning smoothies made to order!! Italian Restaurant is the best - make your reservation!! Great beach area, lots of huts, decent snorkeling right off the beach (take your own snorkel tube). Only negative - drink cups are too small. Book tours from Caesar on the beach, much cheaper than hotel. Nightly shows are cute. Lots of music and activity by the pool all day long.

I honestly dont know what people are moaning about. i have never written a review before but after reading other peoples I feel I have to.

I was there from 13th-27thh June 2010 with my partner.
Hotel was fantastic, staff were vyer friendly and helpful!
Food was good (although I am a fussy eater but you cant please everyone)
Rooms were clean and maids came everyday! It was a standard room but clean, nice and comfortably.
Poor was clean as was the surroundings of the full hotel.
Entertainment was not really up to much but it was funny and we met lots of people and had a laugh! Although the bars closed at 12am you had a snack bar selling beer, rum and snacks until 2am we just stocked up.
The beach was clean. Eventhough you do get pestered by people selling things but you get that everywhere.

Overall i do not have one bad complaint!! You could find something wrong with every hotel but the silly things dont matter.

FANTASTIC
