I stayed at Confresi Palm from Feb 24-March 2nd. I had extremely low expectations and was slightly worried about all the bad reviews I had read. I'm not usually someone who would write a review after a trip, but feel that the reviews for this resort are misleading. We had a great time - the resort was beautiful, the people were friendly, and the bars were fun. The a la carte restaurants were absolutely delicious; the buffet was nothing special but we could always find something decent to eat there. The pools and beach were beautiful and we never had a problem getting a spot.

As written in previous reviews, there are a lot of stairs but they aren't problematic for most people; if you have a baby stroller or can't walk stairs then this is something to think about. As for the sewer smell that people have been discussing - I could faintly smell it sometimes in some spots of the resort but it was really nothing bothersome, strong or long lasting. Our rooms were average and nothing special, but they were clean, had good AC, and a good hot water supply.

I would definitely go back, and I hope I have eased the minds of some worried travelers!

Hey All! if your planning to visit Puerta Plata, Dominican Republic,do not overlook a visit to the Confresi Palm Beach Resport & Spa!! A Simply inclusive vacation spot offering beautiful panaramic views, a variety of resturants ( one better than the next) pools, beaches, entertainment and wonderful service! Rooms were all newly done with flat screen TV and for those of you wanting the excursions...there are a number of those to venture out on as well. Try it! You will love it! Weather was lovely and we met lovely people while there. We are already planning another trip back for several weeks in August! Having traveled a great deal, it is important to me to be able to relax at a great place, roll out on the beach and have a spa at hand. (Here there are several) also very good!!

First thing you should know about this resort is that it is a section of the Lifestyles Vacation Resort, so check reviews for Lifestyle Vacation resort...
THE GOOD;
This is a very large resort, but shuttle service is provided. The public areas and pools are quite nice. Lots of day bed loungers and tiki huts for shade.
THE BAD:
The buffet food was not too good, with a few exceptions. They prebooked us for the first 2 nights at an ala cart restaurants, but unless you are a VIP(Timeshare Owner), reservations for the other ala cart are waitlisted. We did get to eat at the Mexican restaurant and it was very good.. Although this is an all inclusive resort, tipping is encouraged but not required.
There are several levels of VIP at this resort. We booked through Cheapcaribbean and thought that we would have VIP benefits, but we were excluded from certain VIP only areas and restaurants. Don't be fooled by the "CONCIERGE" who checks you in. His ONLY job is to get you to the timeshare presentation the next morning by telling you you get your VIP braclet in the AM. When we realised it was going to be a timeshare presentation, we walked out. This resort has LOTS of stairs, so if you are not in shape, you will be after you leave. If you are handicapped, choose another resort. The beach area was in a cove and had a limited distance you could walk until you reach the end. I prefer resorts with an endless beach.
THE UGLY:
Our room was a disaster. We were assigned to a room in building 205. The first thing we noticed was there was no dresser to put cloths away, only a closet. The only things new in the room wewe shower curtains, a flat screen TV and some nice drapes. The room was very warn with non matching and cracking replacement tiles on the floor, lamp shades sitting directly on lightbulbs because of missing lamp parts. The toilet leaked at the base and took 2-3 flushed to get anything down. I reported this to the front desk on day 1, and was told it would be fixed immediately, but never was. The AC unit was noisy and is wired incorrectly as the fan runs continuosly in the auto mode and cycles on/off in the run mode.

Room Tip: The "superior" rooms are like a $30. motel room until they renovate them.

We had a great time at Cofresi Palm. The pools & landscaping are beautiful. The beach is really nice. The staff was very helpful. Never had a problem finding a place by a pool or on the beach to relax. There are a lot of steps, but we didn't mind the walking, the view is fantastic. The rooms are average, but clean. The food selection was not the best, but we always found something we liked. We had a really good time and would go back. The timeshare people were not really a bother. When asked, we just said we were not interested. We were only approached 2 times.

First and foremost, the Resort is wonderful. We've been at Cofresi's sister resort, Lifestyles, for 9 weeks and it is like our second home. Moomtaz not only has great food; it has the most joyous and entertaining wait staff. Even if you aren't a big fan of Indian food (we aren't), give it a try; you'll be able to find something on the menu you enjoy; my husband loves their "beef stew".
