“Good Hotel, Bad Rooms”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 January 2012

It is a beautiful property, wonderful beach and clean grounds. We went with a family of 5 and there was always something for us to do. The staff is very very friendly. Recreationists will always try to get everyone involved and try to help people out. We stayed in room 2309 and found cockroaches asked for it to be fumigated, they said they had when they really hadn't and then finally they changed our room. Staff told me that cockroaches are a problem in the hotel. The rooms where truly the worst part of my stay. Other than that, the food was great, not much diversity but very good quality, the beach is beautiful and so is the pool. A trip to paradise island is a must! A truly amazing experience. It is a lot cheaper to buy it off the guys on the beach they are very trust worthy, Julio especially #1. The restaurants where very good especially the gourmet. The hotel also lacked more ambience, like music around the beach and lobby. Good hotel but wont be coming back.

Room Tip: 2309 has cockroaches

We, my husband and I had a great time there. We got what we wanted, rest and sunshine.
The beach was not very clean, I mean, the water, but it was fine. The pool is very nice, but I prefer the beach.
It says it is a 4.5 stars, but it is not, probably a 4 stars.
Good food. Great staff. Good restaurants with variety of food.
Great New Year's Eve Party.
The hotel is nice. Our room was very big and comfortable. The rooms need some maintenance though, for example, the AC made a loud noise, the bathroom faucets are old and the door of the balcony was hard to open and it was broken, we asked to fix it, but all they did was to break the handle, but it was the day before we left, so there was no point on asking again. We asked about the rooms in another buildings that seemed newer and nicer and the guy at reception told us that it will be an upgrade, the cost was $40 more per day, and really for the time you spend on the room it was not worthy. We met a lady that was in one of those, and for her description, those rooms were definitely newer and more modern.
The hotel has a nice bar close to the beach.
It was a nice trip overall.

I had a great time here! Good thing I ignored the few negative reviews I saw. This resort is excellent. 4.5 stars? Not really, more like a 3.5 or 4 star but still really good overall and excellent value for the money. I was there for 1 week over Christmas, direct flight from Vancouver Canada. I've been also to Cuba and Mayan Riviera.

The beach is very nice, though a bit windy at times. Rough but enjoyable and warm waters. Better for wading, not much for swimming. If you're a pool person you'll be pleased too.

Very good food compared to, say, Cuban resorts, and all water in restaurants and bars is filtered so everything drinkable/edible perfectly safe even the ice (but don't drink from the bathroom taps!) Vegetarians like me will find enough food to sustain themselves, Vegans - you'd better go elsewhere.

Rooms are nice, no bugs evident; shower has decent pressure and warmth; they try to pitch you on timeshares at least once per visit but don't force the issue if you say No, they just go away. Expedition vendors on the beach will approach you but if you say no, they won't bug you again. Friendly staff, just be patient with them because their English skills are close to zero. Security everywhere keeps outsiders away. Landline Internet is expensive, $4/15 minutes, but wifi is available for 25 hours for $25 USD. The Paradise island excursion was very fun and the bus ride went through the countryside giving us a free tour of the local lifestyle.

Stop reading, just go ahead and book it, it'll be fine! You'll have fun and be safe and looked after. Nothing is perfect, especially in the Caribbean, but this is the highest ranking affordable hotel in the joint. Me and my GF had lots of fun and would probably go back if the price was right - but first I'll try some other caribbean islands!!

Room Tip: Top floor is quietest for traffic and sleeping in. No ocean view rooms at this resort. Specify singl...

Just got back yesterday. I gave one star, to ensure it brings the resort to it`s True rating of 2 1/2 star. We got originally assigned the new building #9, but asked to be moved closer to the pool in the older room (red roof inn Type). Pool is very cold and has no swim up bar. You must leave the pool to get drinks due to no waiter service. The breakfast was the same everyday of 8 entrees and 1 guy cooking eggs. This is the smallest buffet I have even been to at any resort. Restaurants were empty (we ate at all), but would be told if you went to the reservation desk that they were full. Howeer it was never even half full on any visit. Us and a couple people we met compared restarants occupancy info to see if this was accurate. Although the place was clean, staff friendly and Animation team engaging. It was the little things that don`t make this a 3star plus place. Reception desk staff are not accomodating and would not let two couples we met change rooms althouhg the resort the 6 days we stayed there was 20% full. In face we downgraded and even when we downgraded room to be closer to the pool, they asked for more money if we wanted a view in the older building. #5, we refused since we figured what type of view is there at night with a pitch black ocean. I feel alot of the review are either by non US visitors or BE live employees. Out of the 4 families we met and one had a time share, we all agreed that we would not return. The timeshare person obviously had no choice. If you have teen, don`t bother, once they close the activities by the pool at 6PM (Pool tables, ping pong) there is nothing to do. Most place I have been allow the teens their own space, since they can`t go the the clubs or drink. WiFi is charged by the hour. NO FREE internet even in the lobby like most places. Overally I would not go here again. We spent about $5K for a family of 4 (2 adults, 2kids (7 & 10) vacation in DR, however the Hotel is not workth more than 2 and half stars....
Breakfast (actual menu - everyday):
Mashed plaintains, beans, bread pudding, bacon, slice sausage, eggs, yuca/potatoes, bread and yogurt)

Snack Bar (actual menu - everyday);
Hotdog, hamburger, wings, fry fish, spagetti, pizza, fruit and small deserts

Lunch Buffet (actual menu - everyday)
Chicken, rice, beans, pasta salads, roast port, fish, deserts - very little variations

Dinner Buffet (actual menu - everyday)
Similar to lunch with maybe a few extra entrees

After 4 days we craved some NYC Ghetto chinese food. This resort gave you the least amount of service possible. Gave the impression they don`t care about the customer satisfaction. O`, my 7yr old got a very tiny cut and I asked for a bandaid, after 20 min of the activity guys calling the front desk and other places, were told we could buy one at one of their shops. I went to me room for the ones I brought. ....

Will not go back again.

Room Tip: All the buildings close to the pool are old, newer rooms are very far from the pool... Your choice.

Went to this place with my husband at my travel agent's recomendation. The rooms were equivalent to a American super 8. Staff expected tips if not you are ignored. Not a place to relax as people try to rip you off. The casino outside preys on tourist with their guard down. Every one there seems very sneaky. Beach was awful. Very rough with sand flies. With shady charactors and thier body guards everywhere, I did not feel safe. Worst part was on our flight back we were told that one person did not have seats and the ticket agent was very rude and tried to make us pay for an upgrade. If you are smart pay a bit extra and

Stayed here with my family and inlaws in llate November for one week. Let me say the place is pretty decent, not the nightmare I envisioned after reading some late reviews. A four plus I don't think so, a three plus is more like it if you don't upgrade to the new sections. The old section are decent but rooms are a little musty. Funny how you don't seem to notice it once you are acclimatized to the Caribbean life. Lots of hot water and decent pressure as well. The rooms are clean with great maid service daily. The food is great here, especially Rodigios. The buffet seemed to please us all as did Mangos restaurant by the beach. The animation staff are super and always involving the kids in lots of activities. The beach was churning most of the time we were there but they made a decent effort to clean it up once things calmed down. The bars and staff were very good but the drink cups could be bigger, I always asked for a grande glass. Overall the place is pretty decent - not likely go back but not disappointed we went.
