After reading some of the past reviews I was a little concerned. So instead of going into details I will list the Pro's vs con's
Pro's
The resort is clean and beautiful.
The staff is very nice.
The superior rooms are nice and clean.
Great resort for families
The ala carte restaurants are pretty good.
The disco and beach party was fun.

Con's
The buffet restaurants were not so great, not much of a variety, the food taste very bland.
Toilet in our room did not work (but was quickly fixed).
You only get 1 set of towels even if there's 2 or more in a room. Be prepared to ask for more towels.
The beach area is not so clean (dirty diapers on the beach.....REALLY?)
Nothing else outside of the resort

Just returned from a 2 week holiday , this is a great hotel , the staff are very helpful and friendly , the rooms are clean , but require some modernisation , the food is of a good standard , the gourmet restaurant and the mexican restaurant were both excellent, the pool was great , and the hotel was directly on the beach , the main problem was the locals coming in on the weekends , the population of the hotel doubled ( queues, noise, etc ),we just went on the beach , and booked the restaurants on weekends problem solved, this is law in the dominican republic. , our rep vicky was great , and both excursions were brilliant , overall a great holiday.

We stayed for two weeks in October, hotel rooms were spacious and kept clean and mini bar was restocked daily. Food in the buffet was nice always plenty to choose from the restaurants were great gourmet being the best!! The entertainment staff work so hard and are always asking you to take part in the daily activities however if you don't want to they do not force you. Danny Boy, Miguel and hector were so much fun and seemed to really love there jobs and were always so friendly! The guys at the water sports were great as well helped us arrange parasailing and jet skis and sent a boat from another hotel to pick us up to take us to the Barcelo hotel where the water sports took place. The beach is nice there were quite a few vendors on there though which was a little annoying but if you say no thankyou a few times they will leave you alone we preferred it round the pool though as more was going on. Overall this is a great hotel and the staff are brilliant.

Would like to say a big thank you to all the staff as they was so helpful polite and made you feel so welcome.
I have to say a very big thank you to Miguel and Hector and Danny boy not forgetting picacui as they made the holiday better always smiling and have a laugh and joke.
The food has a lot on offer and choices we have just got back after 2weeks and already looking to book again in the same hotel

Just come back from this hotel I will start with good points
no 1; the superior rooms are good but you got to pay extra 30 dollars a night for it .
no 2 the pool is good would be brilliant if they spent a bit more time on cleaning it there was a lot of dead wasps flys and other insect at the bottom thats it for the good ;
We will start with thomson travel we booked the holiday at the shop but while looking on there website on our i phone in shop we found the same holiday £200 cheaper so we decided to upgrade our room to superior room so we were told we paid £196 for upgrade when we got to this hotel we were given room 4318 we went to room and it looked like I had gone back to 1978 when i left home and moved into my first bedsit i.e. bed fridge toilet and a chest of draws dirty and dark tv did not work and chest of draws falling to bits and safe is not allinclusive you got to pay $42 to have safe for 14 days you dont get told this by thomson
We complained and they siad our upgrade was just for a sea view room who in the right mind would pay £200 for a sea view not me the girl behind reception told the chap who came to tell us that was the superior room unknown to them i understand spanish and told them that of course they denied she said that so i asked to be moved to another hotel and vicky the rep did get us another hotel but then they offerd me a upgrade at $130 for the stay then they changed their mind and gave us it for free so they say but i had piad for that anyway so we stayed and thought all good WRONG.
We went for dinner which to be fair was hot most times but tasteless we thought we can live on it.
Breakfast was different bacon was cremated sausages were made of rubber scrambled egg was like slop so we had fried egg on toast daily.
Evening meals was the same as dinner with an extra 2 dishes .
Then the sickness and puertoplata splatter started my wife got it so 2 days went spent in the room imodium and not eating seemed to clear it
then I ended up with it I was braver we found a sunbed near toilets and stayed out of room by the pool more imodium and starving seem to clear it .
So then the wife got it again and she still is not perfect talking to a few others at hotel there is a big problem with this one80 year old lady we got talking to did not eat anything just fruit all her holiday hiya Betty and George
As i said the room was ok but i found myself waking up with bites all over my legs we thought it was moscitos so we boucht some flykiller sprayed this for couple of nights no change then i thought must be bed bugs I started sleeping on sofa in room never had another bite all holiday so must be bedbugs
The alacart restaurants brazilian dont waste your time you sit there forever waiting for the meat that comes on skeweres we walked out
Mexican the first time we went all was ok until they brought out the nachos they were stone cold I complaind they took the dish away and was not offerd another dish so we left webooked it again i had the tortillas they were nice dont have the nachos.
The gormet now that was good we went ther twice no problem
We did get better food in buffet restaurant for 2 days they were having some conference to promote hotel and for 3 days before conference they were painting cleaning fumigating moving tables out of the mexican restaurant where the conference was about 7 or8 chefs still in their chef outfit were doing all the moving of tables and chairs I just wonder if they got clean gear on before they went into kitchen again i dont think so.
Beware when Dominicans come in at weekend they are rude pushy they dont wait to be served at bar and the barman dont care they serve them first and ther was a shooting one night some dominicans came in and shot one of the dominican geusts
Seem as though i am likely to get an answer to this review by someone at the hotel i would like some answers to some questions
1 why can you do great food for your conference guests and not us that are paying to come to your hotel to have a holiday.
2Why at every other hotel i have been to they fumigate the whole hotel including the rooms at least once a week you only did it once in 14 days and that was because you had to clean up for the conferance can you not have a look at most people in your place and see how many have bites on their legs.
3 Why and how can you not realise that the rooms are dull and dirty can you not do all rooms like the superior rooms and charge a bit more for the stay.
4 Why can you not tell all the locals to wait there turn in a queu and not be rude if we in britain do what they do we would be called animals and taken to a zoo .
5 Do you not care about getting any more visitors in the dominican the amount of people that come to the dominican to your hotel and have a bad time wont come back to your country again we have been to the domican 6 times and that was from 2007 occidental carabean club on the green 2008 fun royale twice they are both shut down they were also better than your place. You have the foundation to a brilliant hotel there sort the food out sort the rooms out get rid of the puerto platter splatter bug give the place a jolly good clean and it would be up there with the best if you dont know how to do it get Gordon Ramsey in he will do it for you.
To all tripadvisor members you want to go to this hotel take plenty of immodium we went here and could not get away from a toilet we did not dare do any trips we had a holiday sunbathing near the toilets and on the toilet thank you Be Live marien
