To begin with the Playa Dorada complex is beautiful, I can't understand why this hotel is in such poor condition. I actually enjoy Playa Dorada very much so chose another hotel on the complex if this is your destination. Anyway, my experience was an unpleasant one, from the room to the front desk staff. I went to the resort because I was invited by my then 6 year old son's aunt. My son had a good time so that did make up for the nightmare. The rooms are falling apart and the property is pretty old and not kept up. After some complaining my son and I were moved to one of their suites. That made it better since the suite was descent.

If we had paid more money I would be furious! But it wasn't expensive and you get what you pay for.
We got there and they didn't have our reservation, turns out it was under someone else's name, with the wrong date. The language barrier at the front desk was a little difficult.
The rooms were clean, very old, but without any extras, there weren't even any decorations! The food was horrid, awful, terrible and reused. I, again, had low expectations, but they couldn't even meet those!! The website states that they have 4 restaurants, a Buffet, Mexican, Italian and Carribean. Yeah, that didn't happen, the "Italian" place was open one night, and they had the same lame appetizers and desserts and the food was not good at all! The Mexican and Carribean places were non existent. The lunch at the beach was decent, but there were no snacks provided as advertised. It was so bad that we couldn't take it anymore and left for dinner 2 nights and lunch one day.
Be careful, as you will get accosted for time share presentations. The time share reps will promise you the world, not really explain where they are taking you, and promptly abandon you when you decide not to sit and listen to their presentation.

Pros:
Lucy!!! She made our experience soooo much better, she is friendly and helpful. From booking us shows and tours to getting us a cab and reservation for dinner. She was such a pleasant and positive force!
The friendliness of the staff, everyone was welcoming and friendly with an hola and smile

All in all I would not recommend this place, spend some extra money and have a better experience!

Considering the price... one can't complain too much so here's the short list: 1) slow check in. 2) rooms clean but need to be refurbished, bedding included. 3) weak food options. Enjoyed the short walk to the beach - rides are available at lobby. Good beach access.

Wow, the worst resort I've ever stayed at! It started off with checking in... I was told by the two men at the front desk that because I did not print out my confirmation, I would be unable to check in. I gave them my confirmation number, but they were only interested in a printout, and explained that after 1pm, nobody who worked there was capable of looking up the reservation. Obviously, I was extremely upset and bewildered how anyone could run a business this way. After several minutes of arguing, one man finally took me to a back office and "allowed" me to print out my confirmation. Normally I would have all of my documents in hand. However, the night before, we changed our plans, booked this hotel on the fly on my phone, and proceeded to the hotel the next morning. We finally were able to check in... woo hoo! It didn't get any better.
The room was clean, but very old, and the bed was very hard. There is only a bed, dresser, tv and a bathroom. No coffee, no iron, no hairdryer, no nothing.
The food is the worst I have had on the island at any resort, no joke! The alcohol is horrible and cheap, stick with the beer. The entertainment team tried...
Overall, the resort has seen better days. It is old and in need of much repair. The staff is not trained well on customer service, or just doesn't care. I would highly recommend spending your money somewhere else!

Room Tip: I have no idea if there are good rooms here or not. All I know is ours was not.

Beautiful weather, good food and accomodations, plus staff who were more than willing to answer questions and help solve any problem. The staff was very friendly. Lucy met with us and explained the logistics of the resort and surrounding community, and helped us plan trips. The small bungalow with large porch was neat, clean, and very spacious. The beach had plenty of lounge chairs and shaded patio area. Transportation to the beach was frequent, and the grill lunch was delightful. I especially enjoyed the fresh fruits and vegtables and tropical drinks. My one suggestion would be to add a railing to the pool entrance steps.
