The flight was good Dreamliner plane good leg room, hotel, food and staff was all good, we was quite impressed with the cleanliness of the rooms and the hotel generally, maid service daily, the only thing to criticise was the minibar in room, it was filled every second day with water and beer plus coke however it was insufficient for three people

Room Tip: Get ground floor high numbered room as they are nearer restaurants and beach.

We have just come back from a week in this lovely hotel in the Dominican Republic.
The staff were friendly and helpful, working hard to make sure we all had a wonderful holiday experience. The food was plentiful and fresh, the weather was perfect.
Riu should be proud of their staff, Jess the assistant manager was a star, we had a problem with our air con which was sorted out with minimum of fuss.
We ate al a carte a couple of times and enjoyed very much.
We spent our time down on the beach which is more our thing. There was always loads of activities to take part in if you wanted to be more active.
All the public area were kept clean and our room was spotless.
It was my birthday while there and oh boy did they make a fuss. When we got back to our room ( over looking the sea) in the afternoon my husband had arranged for it to be decorated! Beautiful flowers, balloons, even presents and cards from the hotel! Birthday cake at dinner with a round of happy Birthday sung by the staff! A lovely lovely surprise..
Overall an amazing holiday. Thank you riu staff for making it so x

Stayed here for 2 weeks for honeymoon, in june 2011 (can't select that on the drop down). Staff were lovely, there was a chilled fruit plate in our room and a gift as it was our honeymoon which was very nice and unexpected. Housekeeping were excellent, leaving flowers and decorative towels. If you leave a small tip in fridge drinks are restocked every day rather than every other day. Poolside wasnt fun for us as was very busy, lots of kids and locals. Beach is bliss full, still has bars and staff with cocktails going up and down. Restaurant staff helpful, and attentive, steak and italian restaurants are well worth the booked visit. Only downside was the vendors, they are very naggy and intimidating to get you to buy things and at least two nights of the two weeks they took over the hotel lobby so it felt like running a gauntlet to get to get to the restaurant.

My girlfriend and I spent two weeks here for our summer holiday, and found it to be generally excellent.

We booked through First Choice, and got the Dreamliner from Manchester. The Dreamliner is pretty good, bit more legroom than normal. First long haul flight I've ever been on where you didn't get even one free drink though!

Arriving in Puerto Plata, you get your wrist band and board a bus to the hotel, which takes about 30 minutes or so. Once at the hotel, the check in process was very speedy, you get your keys and go straight to your room. Then, an eternity later, your luggage arrives.

The hotel is an absolute 5 star for cleanliness and service. The staff there, from the gardeners and pool cleaners to the waiters and chefs, are always smiling and saying "hola". There are constantly people going around cleaning up all the litter that is left by less thoughtful guests.

The pool at Bachata was great, there were always plenty of recliners. It was the busiest pool, no doubt due to the awesome swim up bar. Luxury! The Merengue pool could also be used, but we actually preferred to walk right to the other end and use the 3rd pool in the Merengue village. This area seems to be undergoing refurb, and so was seriously quiet all the time. There was also a bar next to it. The only time it was busy was at the weekends, when the locals stayed. I would recommend excursions at the weekend, as it got a bit too busy for my liking. A lot of reviews have complained about the locals, but they were no worse behaved than some of the Brits that were staying there, who you could sometimes hear bellowing and shrieking as they staggered back from the disco at 3am. Thanks for that, guys.

The food was certainly very tasty, and they really did try to vary the dishes, with themed nights like the Mexican and Chinese. I believe the noodles were spaghetti dipped in soy sauce, but no matter, there was always something to eat. However after 10 days or so, it all began to taste rather samey, which is surely inevitable. We went once to the Steakhouse, and wished we had gone more, because it was absolutely delicious!

Drinks-wise, the beer and wine is quite weak, maybe best to stick to the cocktails, because you get some pretty strong measures there. Don't forget to ask them to put the booze in the drinks though, as sometimes they don't. You also get optics in your room, rum, vodka, brandy and gin, which are replaced every two days. If you need to have them replaced that often though, then I think you may have a problem. Get help.

Speaking of the rooms, they were very nice. Lovely wee balcony to sit on, seconds from the beach and pools, but just far enough away that you don't get bothered by noise from the entertainment. The double bed was two beds pushed together, which sadly seems to be standard practice in hotels across the world. The bed was comfortable, although my one seemed to have a plastic lining to the mattress that made a hellish noise anytime I moved, presumably in case someone over indulges on the free drinks and wets the bed. It felt like being at school camp or something.

The beach was long and usually quite quiet as everyone was at the pool. Never underestimate the appeal of the swim up bar. There was plenty of shade, masses of loungers, free watersports (snorkelling, pedallos etc). There is usually a strong breeze on the beach, which is pleasant, but does mean that the water is dangerous to swim in. For the full 14 days we were there, every single day was a "red flag day", meaning the waters were unsafe.

The animation team were terrific, man they work a long day, but their smiles and jokes never falter. The shows in the evening were usually worth a watch, personal favourites being the Michael Jackson tribute and the Rock Station show.

The reps were always on hand during the stay, and gave us a refund on an excursion to the cable car that went horribly, nightmarishly wrong. But that's a different review altogether.

So yeah, I would definitely recommend Riu Bachata for a stay in the DR.

I travelled to Riu Bachata recently with first choice and thompson.
The flight was comfortable and the reps where really nice and helpful always. The hotel itself is beautiful and is exactly how it is in the pictures however i thought it had been updated since the pictures.
The staff where always happy to help and where polite, always smiling and greeting as you walked passed.
The entertainment team where brilliant and because of them i am planning on going back next year as they made it so enjoyable.
Just wanted to mention Tyson, Spaguetti and Gigi as they made the activities fun and made us all laugh, they are brilliant at their jobs and hope they are there next year!

The only thing I would say is i did not agree with the neighbouring hotel stayers coming into our hotel, we paid for a premium hotel which it was, but they paid less and had access to the same facilities as us.. That is the only negative i would say.

Room Tip: All rooms where the same, we was fair away from the pool but had a sea view somesch room has it'...

Because they will deny anything ever happened. I was there for a week's stay during Christmas week. I tripped on a curb that was obscured and badly injured my ankle. They would do practically nothing to help (except for one gentleman, Ernest was his name I think) - they first told us to contact their insurance company and then denied there was ever an incident. I had to go to the local hospital where I was put in a cast, wore a brace for 8 weeks and have been in physical therapy and going to a chiropractor ever since. We left on the third day because they wouldn't even let me use the single wheel chair they had to get around. Food was poor, drinks watered down. Don't go.

We stayed as a family in Riu Bachata 07/07/14-21/07/14 and we had the best time!

Cleanliness-very clean, the maids do a fantastic job of cleaning the rooms and always leave nice little decorations such as towel models. Cleaners are always cleaning even when the area is spotless. However there is sometimes flies around the salad but it is a Caribbean country so that is expected.

Location-beautiful! The hotel is right on the beach and the beach is lovely. It is nice and shady and the sea looks amazing. The red warning flag was up the majority of the time we were there however the sea is much calmer nearer to the meringue. The hotel is relatively close to puerto plata centre however we never took that trip.

Rooms-they are lovely and cool, the fan is very good! The beds are quite hard but I still slept very well every night. There are TVs in the room however there was only 3 English speaking channels- MTV, home&health and CNN news. We were barely in the room but the time we spent in there we couldn't fault.

Food-the main buffet was delicious! There was themed nights which mean there was a large variety of food- Dominican night, Mexican night, Chinese night and more! The beef in the buffet was my favourite. There was also 3 restaurants which required bookings. We only tried the steakhouse and it was amazing!

Service-the restaurant workers do their job well however they could be more friendly and talkative- it is definitely true that they give much better service if you tip! The entertainment team are FANTASTIC! They work such long hours for such little pay. They host activities during the day such as minigolf, darts, water aerobics, horseshoe, crazy games and bingo- from 10am until 5pm. At 8pm they return for the mini disco and night show. We got especially close to spaguetty whom is so funny and amazing and we miss lots! We also got close to Tyson Gigi kitty and Betty boo!

We got back home a few days ago and we are already looking to book for next year!

Do not listen to any bad reviews our holiday was 'excelente'!!!
