“Best Times with Great Friends”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 May 2013 via mobile

My friends and I love this resort and have been twice since February. This is becoming our second home and we cant wait to come back in August. We only stayed 4 nights this time and it was not long enough. We have so much fun hanging out with the staff, who we are now close with, I left today and miss them so much already. We love John Cena, Puchi (Sticky), Lenny Kravitz (Pineapple Head), Johnny Bravo, Tairis (Mi Novia <3), Choco Choco, Spaghetti, Michael Jordan and Caramelo. We came back to a new SWEET party on Thursday night and the entertainment staff work so hard to make this happen. We love the VIP Beach and the wait staff at Casa Blanca (Jose Javier and Rafael) and the Pool Bar (Emilio and David). It is so much fun here and I cant wait until we are back in a couple months.

Was back here with my friends again two months after my first time back in February, was really great to see all the old faces we met from the first time and how they remembered us from before. Michael Jordan, john Cena, choco, johnny bravo, Lenny kravits, carmelo, puchi and tairis were all great hosts. Food was good entertainment is fun the amazing rave party on may 2 the VIP beach bar was great. Overall best vacation for the price.

We were here exactly two months ago and couldn't wait to get back. We only stayed 4 nights this time and too short. We started out rough because the second room took almost three hours to be ready and we didn't get into it until almost six. But with what we paid, who can get upset? The club we used to go to is closed and being turned into a casino and that forced us to take advantage of the sister resort Cofresi and that was really nice too. Thursday was our last night and the new party they have was out of control from guys on stilts and in cages and covered in glitter and a foam party, it was crazy. We couldn't wait to see all the staff we've become friends with like Tairis,Choco and his donkey, Pushy, waiter Jose <3 John Cena, Michael Jordan, Lenny Kravitz, Bravo. But Choco was sick so we didn't see much of him (feel better). We are already planning our return in August.

On my first day, I was disappointed by the rooms at the hotel, but the quality of every other offering just blows that complaint out of the water. You'll only be in the room to sleep and shower because the animacion team at the pool keeps you engaged all day. John Cena, poochy poochy (lol spelling?), caramello, Michael Jordan, Johnny bravo- I must have told these guys 50 times that they absolutely made my vacation amazing. They truly go above and beyond in their effort to make your trip memorable and fun. Tomorrows gym session won't be nearly as fun as water aerobics!! Jose Felix @ Casablanca, Rafael at moonlight- amazing service, thank you!! The quality of the rooms in certain parts of the resort is so-so, but the resort is staffed so superbly you won't care. First resort I've been to that I will definitely go back to!!

My girlfriends and I booked through Cheap Caribbean and got an amazing deal. Based on some of the reviews, we were a little anxious about what to expect when we arrived, but I have to say that any of the negative reviews must be coming from people who expected to stay at the Ritz for Red Roof prices. The rooms were clean but basic, and very comfortable. We stayed in Building #2, which I had read was not a good building to stay in, however we did not have a bad experience at all.

In regards to the high-pressure sales for timeshares, there are indeed people who will try to give you the "Welcome Tour", which is really a sales pitch for their timeshares, but a firm but polite "No thank you" was all it took for them to leave us alone. Two of the four of us did end up taking the tour, which took about 2 hours, or "5 Dominican Minutes", as their guide told them it would be. You do get a small bottle of rum and mamajuana for taking the tour, and it was a good way to get to see what all the resort has to offer.

The restaurants were ok - the Japanese and the Dominican restaurants were the best of those we tried, and Johnny's International was by far the worst. If you are booked for Johnny's when you get there, don't bother, unless you don't mind eating in a restaurant that smells like a mildewed, musty old basement. We couldn't wait to get out of there, never mind that the food was passable.

The VIP beach was absolutely beautiful, with pretty cabana beds to lay on, or lounge chairs down on the beach if you preferred to be right next to the ocean. You will have to get down there pretty early to get one of the cabanas with curtains (like 7:15 am), but the beds in full sun seemed to open up on a regular basis if we missed out on the curtained beds.

A couple of pointers I wish I had known before getting there:
-Bring a nice, big, insulated drink cup for beverages. They'll fill them for you at the bar, and that way you don't have to keep going up for more (and if it's insulated, your drink will stay cold longer).
-Bring a white outfit for the Sunday night "Welcome" party. It seems that the Americans didn't get that memo while we were there, and everyone from Spanish-speaking countries were wearing all white. You certainly won't be turned away from the party if you're not wearing white, but we definitely noticed that only the Gringos were not in white.
-Leave a good tip and a note for your housekeeping crew and they'll keep the water well-stocked in your fridge, which is nice to have.
-Be warned that the tour company that handles the transfers for Cheapcaribbean will tell you that you "Must" meet with them to set up your return trip to the airport, but that this is actually a sales pitch to get you to purchase excursions from them. If you are interested in taking an excursion, go for it, but if you're going with a private company for an excursion (please see my review on Rancho Lobo Gris in Sosua!), skip it and just ask the front desk for info on when to show up for your return transfers.
-Don't pay full price for any items down on the beach - they expect you to haggle a bit. If you bring cash, you can also do some bargaining in the gift shops at the resorts.
-You don't need water shoes for the beach if you stay on the VIP beach area, as there is a sandy bottom there. Other reviews mention the rocky bottom on some of the beaches.
-Bring lots of waterproof sunscreen. I had gone tanning prior to my visit, so I didn't think I'd need much - and I was horribly mistaken, as my peeling nose and forehead can attest to.

The staff is friendly and attentive, especially if you tip well, but even if you don't. All you have to do is ask, and if it is possible, the staff will help you out.

Bottom line - go with an open mind and remember what you're paying for this beautiful location. All you can drink, all-you-can-eat, sun, and the beautiful Caribbean adds up to an incredible vacation, so slather on the sunscreen, sit back, and relax on the best "Cheapo" vacation you'll ever find.
