“Waterfall excursion”

The falls were amazing, guides were great, and we had so much fun. We did all the jumps and bought the DVD, which was decent quality.

“Fun day on the island.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 April 2013

We have enjoyed day trips with the 'Runners' group before and we're not let down this time. We were picked up on time, and returned on time. That in itself is worth mentioning. Our guide Marino was very knowledgable and fluent in English & French... we had both on our truck, and he made sure we all understood what he was saying and gave us so much information on the island ways. Thank you Marino! Amore was our driver and drink server... again thank you!

Our day included a very clean truck to ride in - it's a bumpy ride as you leave the main roads fairly quickly. Most of the the tour is inland over rough dirt roads, over little rivers, etc... we stopped at a few local vendors to see how coffee is made, chocolate (the real stuff), and so on... we enjoyed many samples of these items gratis, and of course they hope that you'll buy a few things. NO pressure to do so though, and the 'shop stops' were brief. If you're looking for inexpensive 'real' souvenirs... this is a great day to shop for just those kinds of things, and know that you're helping out some locals instead of the duty free chain at the airport.

We enjoyed a bit of horseback riding along the ocean, plenty of beach/swim time and a very tasty lunch along the way. They were generous with offerings of rum & beer and icy cold water. Runners support a number of community groups, but education is there big thing. They support a few of the schools and we stopped at one to see a classroom, talk to the principle of the school and of course see first hand the work that Runners has done to improve the situation for the school.

They sell t-shirts and hats on trip with proceeds going to the school, and it was our pleasure to purchase a few. For $15.00 you get a good souvenir and they are very good quality items (50% of the sale price goes to the school). This was the trip where we were able to bring some items directly to some locals as well. I was happy to give a bag of clothes to some of the women in the coffee hut and they were thrilled to have something new. This was our 5th trip with the Runners group, and I'd certainly go with them again if I go back to D.R.

“Puerto Plata Runners Day event”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 April 2013

If you are going to Puerto Plata take and book your time with the Puerto Plata Runners the first couple of days you arrive. The tour guide will explain what and what to buy in jewelry if you are interested. They are great and very knowlegeable about their culture and the area... the visits were incredible, the school (which we brought supplies and treats for the children) the home, the coconut water, the cigars (which tasted good), the horse ride, the lunch (incredible) the driver and photographer. I bought molasses and honey from there (great). Now, where service is great, I gave them a tip... so for the lunch, the driver and guide. It is very important not give to the children and the tour guide will explain to you.

“Runners Excursion”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 December 2012

There was not anything I didn not like about this excursion, it was a lot of fun. The tour guide was excellent as was the videographer and the driver. It is an excellent way to see the country, meet nice locals and just have a wonderful day. I really enjoyed seeing their beautiful country and learning about their trees and their national bird. I loved the horse back riding. The meal was absolutely the best.
