“Great Flavors, Better Prices”
Review of Shish Kabab

Shish Kabab
Ranked #1 of 51 Restaurants in La Romana
Certificate of Excellence
Description: Though specialising in Middle Eastern cuisine, Yolanda and Juan's menu have a range of local (Dominican) dishes. In fact if you speak to them beforehand, they will endeavour to cater for special requests. Their hospitality is excellent. Prices are reasonable. Seating is available indoors with air-con, and also a renovated outside terrace to watch the world go by. The recipes have been passed from generations and after 46 years, the restaurant continues to develop its menu and deliver an excellent mouth watering experience. Do not forget to try the dishes for which they are most known for, the Kipe and Catibias. The Kipe is a traditional arabic dish made out of bulgur wheat filled with meat and fried to perfection and the Catibia is their version of an empanada made out of yuca instead of flour and filled with a variety of options like meat, chicken, cheese, conch or a combination of these. They are amazing! Shish Kabab has now opened their second location on the Autopista del Coral, it's the highway that connects to the east coast of the island. Coming from Santo Domingo, it will be after the first toll, just before the second one next to the Gas Station Next. If you are coming directly from La Romana, it will be just before the first toll. The new location offers the same menu and has created a cozy, elegant and tropical ambiance that is perfect for a road trip stop for food and refreshments. Their natural juices are a must, in addition of course to the Kipes and Empanadas, which they are famous for. If you are traveling back home from the Punta Cana airport, this will definitely be the best goodbye meal of a lovely visit.

“Great Flavors, Better Prices”
Reviewed 29 May 2014

For those who do not know, the DR has a strong Arab/Lebanese community; and in La Romana you can enjoy their food flavors in this well known restaurant in the center of the town. I have been there several times and the service is impeccable, the flavors are great and the prices unbeatable. Best if you sit in the outside terrace (unless its a hot summer day). My last pleasure was enjoying some Quipes; these are oval shaped fritters, stuffed with seasoned meat and best accompanied by a cold local beer...but they have a full traditional menu of lebanese dishes....enjoy!

“Good Middle Estern food.”

This is a traditional address in La romana, second generation Palestinians. They have really great kipes, and all the rest of the food is good. Ambiance is agreeable and nice. Worth going.

“NEVER again!”
Reviewed 10 October 2013

This “use to be good” Lebanese place was the best “stop-over” in and out of La Romana, but NOT NOW! Wow! How can a place go to pieces? I can tell you: by taking the quality out of the food! The stuffed cabbage (and stuffed grape-leaves) have a HINT of rice with meat FLAVORING stirred in; the Kibbeh [both fried and raw] barely make the level of meat included with the bulgur; the Tabbouleh was chunky and low low quality and the Hummus? Tasteless! Shish Kabab? NUNCA MAS!

We are so disappointed to hear about your not so pleasant experience a few years ago and I have to of course apologize for not taking the time to provide you with a response or feedback sooner. We are slowly implementing a new system that will involve the management of our business online and I will be in charge of it. My name is Victoria. I'm now part of the third generation of the family to work on the development of my grandfather's business and legacy.

I would like to invite you to join me for a lunch if you are ever back in Dominican Republic and hopefully you will see how far we have come since your last visit over a year ago. Please message me and I can provide you with my email address.

Thank you for your feedback Gimena, as it is honest comments like this that keep pushing us to improve as a business. I guarantee that your next visit will be as pleasant as we can make it.

Best Regards,

Try the Kipe that is amazing, hummus, Tabuleh it is a great choice.

Very simple place, without a lot of Customer.
