Our Tui rep actually messed up our booking... they wrote down an early pick up time, so me and my family got up and ready, waiting to be picked up with a very excited child. Turns out we had been booked in for later in the afternoon despite what was on our paperwork. We already had plans for the afternoon and had made the effort to get up and ready so we were extremely unimpressed. We stormed down to the office to see if our rep was there, and the driver/tour guide for Runner's Adventures came after us and rang around their office to see if they could get us on their trip. Luckily they succeeded and we all got to go (thank you SO much for fixing our rep's mistake).
You drive through a Dominican village and get to see how they all really live, which is very interesting (quick note though, there are pigs being skinned at the side of the road, in case you or anyone you are with are sensitive to this). When you get there, they give you a quick talk on what not to do etc, and then you get straight in to see the monkeys! You're handed a bowl of fruit each which is what brings them all over. Not one person was left out, you will DEFINITELY have a good few monkeys jump on you, so well worth the money! You have the option to buy photos from them after (I think it was $10 per photo).
After that they took us to another place where we learned about how they make coconut oil, coffee, chocolate etc... and you get to sample some of it. You then go take a seat in a shaded area where they hand out little 'shots' of their coffee, hot chocolate, and Mama Juana. There's also bits you can buy from them after (priced in dollars but they were happy to take Peso). There's also these little coconut desserts that are free for everyone and are DELICIOUS (kind of taste like carrot cake icing... yum!).
Overall, a fantastic day with lovely staff that had us laughing.
