“Beautiful Resort, excellent service !”
Reviewed 2 November 2010

We stayed at this property for 29 days and we felt it could have been longer !
Beautiful beach, almost new facilities. great service. Food was very good and the choices of restaurants was terrific ( around 10 or more ).

I would suggest upgrading to the Golden Club level; closer to the beach, better rooms and ameneties, dedicated restaurant for breakfast and luch, etc.)

We have been to the Gran Bahia Principe Punta Cana three times, Feb 08, March 09 & March 10. and always had a wonderful vacation. We went with friends and had a amazing time. The Resort is huge but not over crowed, The weather was great the food good and the staff are always willing to help ( a small tip goes a long ways with the Dominican people as they only make $40.00 per week, and remember this is a poor country) .
We have never had any problems with anything during our vacations. The staff make you feel welcome and remembered us from previous years and greeted us with hugs and smiles. We are planning our next holiday there in March 11 and can wait to get there. People have to remember that you are vacationing in a very poor country and still they treat you like royality. So what if they don't speak your language, you probably would not speak their language if they came to you country. Enjoy your stay relax at the beach, have a drink and have the time of your life. Paradise awaits you!

No not recommended.
Staff is rude, my shampoo was stolen from the washroom while I was at the beach. Weather was horrible. they made us wait with babies in the lobby for an 2 hours just to give us our room keys.
No place to change the babies, had to change them in a storage room, on some boxes..absolutely nooooot.

We stayed in this resort in first week of October. Its a nice resort, well maintained and clean, beautifull beach. Food was good. Drink options were limited but it was good. Nightly entertainment was good. Good value for the price we paid. It was truely a 5 star experience. Only thing which bothered us and we didnt like was that people were smoking almost everywhere. The main lobby of each resort was no smoking zone, But people were smoking everywhere. We were once sitting in the main lobby of Ambar resort and one of the server came to us to ask if we need any drinks. She placed a ash trey on our table, right beside the "No Smoking" sign. So I wonder if those signs were relevant at all. The first room we got the day we arrived, it was not the one we booked and it smelled so bad as if someone was smoking there 5 minutes before. We complained and they changed the room right away but told us that we can smoke in any room. So through out our stay we were bothered with that smell whereever we went. I think the resort need to have tougher rules for smoking as we have in North America. Other than that, it was a nice stay and we really enjoyed it.

We went to Gran Bahia Princpe in June 2010. The grounds and facilities were immaculate. Very friendly staff. Limited on drinks but OK. Food was very good from the Buffets to "The Don Pablo" make sure to eat here. Wandered the other parts of the resort at night because Bahia Principe is quiet. You are allowed at all the other resturants but they cannot come to Bahia Principe. It is controlled by way of colored bracelets. Would return and recomend.

I was there in 3rd week of August. We booked Golden Club and contrary to what others say about the place, I think that the place is great and clean and if you go with an open mind and with the attitude of trying to have a good time then I believe you will.
The rooms were clean and the maid does a good job. The best thing about this place is the staff and service. I felt that the staff was great. They give good service and always smile and work very hard. I think that everyone should have in mind that the Dominican Republic is a poor country and a 5 star over there is not like a 5 star in the United States. The place is great, grand and the grounds are very clean and like I have said, the workers are great and give good service.
Overall, I would recommend and if anyone goes, they should not listen to some of the reviews and go with an open mind because I have been to 3 other resorts in Punta Cana and more or less they are more of the same, in the sense that outside of the resort area you will notice that the country is poor but the people are nice.

We wanted to go to a fanicer place, but we were on a budget. I researched a lot of places and the Dominican Republic sounded nice and was significantly cheaper than places like the Bahamas or Jamaica.

We were very happy with our stay at the Gran Bahia Principe, but we're also very flexible and laid back travelers. I think the more picky traveler would have been disappointed at time.

The Pros:
The beach was beautiful.
The hotel was quiet and didn't have a lot of children.
The staff was very friendly
The food and drinks were included. The drinks were very good
The mini bar was constantly stocked
The spa was very nice

The Cons:
The decor is a little dated
When we arrived, our room had two double beds rather than the King I had reserved. (The staff was able to change rooms for us the second night)

The food was average. Definitely not 5 star, but still good.

We paid for the "gold club" which doesn't really seem to get you anything. I was led to believe that we could eat at all of the restaurants, including the one in the lobby, which was not true. I also was lead to believe that we could take advantage of the room service extras, but we could not. That was disappointing.

Chairs by the pool are impossible to find if you get there after 9AM. I got up every morning after the first at 6:30am and waited to claim chairs. You cannot claim chairs until 7:45am, but if you show up at 7:45, they've already been "claimed". So that means I sat on the ground near the chairs every morning for over an hour. That was a huge pain and shouldn't happen on my honeymoon.

Other notes:
The beach is "European" in that topless women are present. Consider yourselves warned.
Most of the other guests were European or South American.
