We stayed at the Barcelo bavaro beach for 4 nights. It is very close to the airport so getting to the resort was very easy. Attentive staff, great room views, and good food made our stay very enjoyable and would recommend staying there.

This resort was absolutely amazing. The staff was wonderful, friendly and outgoing, and always ready to answer any questions you may have. We had an ocean front room with an amazing view of the ocean. Beautiful green water with a soft white sand almost like sugar. Restaurants on both sides of our complex that basically served food all day long, every kind of food you could imagine and always greeted with hand sanitizer when you walked in. The staff was constantly cleaning the grounds, it was always kept up well, looked immaculate. Our room was cleaned daily and the refrigerator was always stocked up. A lot of attractions right on the beach such as speed boats, wind surfing, party boat that looked like a pirate ship, scuba diving, many different things. We took the dolphin swim which was within a half hour from our resort and that was awesome. Dune buggy ride was also magnificent along with the zip line. I would recommend this resort to anyone, it will truly be an experience they will not forget. I would definitely go back again!!

Room Tip: I would definitely take an ocean front room every time.

This is our first time to Barcelo Bavaro Beach Resort and we couldn't be more pleased with our hotel selection. The beach is unbelievable, the rooms are lovely, and the staff is friendly. Unlike other all-inclusives we have stayed at, we are able to eat at a different ala carte restaurant each night of our trip. The grounds in the all adult section feel private but there is easy access to the amenities of the larger resort. This time we are staying as a couple in the adult only portions of the resort, but we are already making plans to come again with our son. There really is something for everyone.

Room Tip: Call ahead to request a king size bed, rather than two doubles. The staff was happy to make this c...

I stayed at the Barcelo Bavaro Beach in June / July 2014 with my boyfriend. We're both in our early 30s looking for a peaceful chilled out beach holiday which the beach provided. We're from London, and loved that the hotel had a great mix of nationalities, it was very full with Americans who were celebrating 4th July so had a great celebratory atmosphere.

Pros:
The beach is amazing, white sand, turquoise sea and plenty of sun beds that are set well away from each other so you don't feel on top of anyone else. Security were great at ensuring that the beach remained adult only so there were no noisy kids which was perfect for us. The sun loungers were very comfy and the beach had some quiet areas if you went a little further from the swimming pool. We tended to choose to relax outside apartment block 4 or near to La Brisa restaurant. The area of the beach outside the pool and bar was noisy and is where the games are held.

The room was perfectly comfortable, the bed was huge and very comfy and the room was always clean. The mini bar was restocked daily, although the items varied per day, so some days we didn't get beer, just colas. Other days no extra colas and just all beer.

The resort is very big and so there's lots of activities for everyone to enjoy. You can use all the facilities at the next door Barcelo Palace Deluxe which has 3 pools and the majority of the restaurants, casino and activities. The entire hotel is about a mile long in size and so doesn't ever feel overcrowded.

The resort is also wonderfully maintained, it's very clean, the gardens are beautifully maintained and the beach is cleaned each morning and again during the day and the evening.

La Brisa for lunch buffet - I would recommend going to La Brisa for lunch buffet, it's smaller but it was infinitely better. The staff were lovely, you can sit outside pretty much on the beach. The food is all fresh and tasty.

CONS:
The hotel is out to take as much money as possible! When we arrived to check in we were offered the upgrade to premium which didn't seem worth it, although reviews on here suggest it may have been. We were then offered to upgrade to a sea view room for an extra $300 for the fortnight. We went for this, only to discover that we had to pay cash to the reception staff so it felt a little like perhaps they were trying to earn a bit of extra cash on the side.

Resort credit - the hotel offers so called resort credit, and you get more if you stay longer. We were there for 2 weeks and so got $3000 resort credit. It's literally not worth the paper it's written on. Every time we tried to use a coupon the staff made it almost impossible to use. As an example one coupon was for $30 off internet. So we tried to buy a weeks wifi using the coupon for discount. We were told it was only for use in the internet center (nowhere on the coupon does it say this). So when we wanted to use the internet centre, we took the coupon and tried to buy a 2 hour session (which was cheaper than $30), only to be told that you could only use the coupon if you were buying more than a weeks worth of internet service centre. Total waste of time! There were also coupons for $10 on the roulette or blackjack at the casino. When we tried to use these the rude girls at the table refused to let us use them. In the end we had to find the manager to ask to use them and he came over to the table with us and finally we were allowed to use them.

Food - Was terrible pretty much everywhere! The buffet food was as expected of a buffet, there were a couple of great dishes and some terrible ones. The downside of the buffet is that they don't advertise during the day what their theme for the evening is. Some of the evenings had excellent food, definitely go to the buffet for Mexican evening, they make fresh tacos and burritos and the Mexican food in the buffet is a million times better than the Mexican food in the actual Mexican restaurant.
The restaurant booking system is a joke, for the first week we couldn't get a booking before 9.45pm. They need to keep a certain number of reservations for new arriving guests. If we had been going for one week we would have been annoyed not to be able to eat before 10 each night. And during the second week when we had earlier bookings, we were disappointed to see that the restaurants were half empty.
The good restaurants are the Japanese that you have to pay an extra $15 each for. Also Chez Gourmet on the adult only side is great.
The fish restaurant was truly awful, the steak restaurant equally bad. Both were buffet starter & desert (the same buffet as in the main buffet just smaller), and the main courses were a la carte but were terrible, overcooked fish and steak.
The Mexican restaurant was the worst of all, so bad that we actually didn't eat 2 of the dishes they were so bad. One was a chicken or pork taco and the meat was just fat and gristle.
The spanish tapas restaurant was also poor, tiny portions (smaller than tapas) and you can only order 2 tapas dishes each and they're so small that it's almost impossible to share. The main course was so bad that again hardly ate any. The table next to us left their paella entirely and we overheard them all saying how bad it was.

Checkout - we asked to have a slightly later check out as we had a 16 hour travel home and so asked to check out 2 hours later than normal. We asked 2 days before leaving and were told that would be fine and to confirm on the morning we checked out. So on the morning we went on the way to breakfast and were told to come back at 9am. So we went back and the woman at reception was rude, unhelpful and did very little to try to help. She said we couldn't check out later because they needed the room and that the hotel was going to be at 100% capacity (which we found hard to believe as there were no guests in 2 of the blocks of rooms and our block only had about 1/4 occupancy). We then asked if there was perhaps a room that we could use to get ready in. We were told no. Then we were told that we could have paid an extra $45 to stay in our room, oh but no actually we need your room back, if you were in a different room you could have paid extra to stay.
So we had to check out and when we asked to store our bags, we were told that they get left outside in the front by where all the guests are picked up and dropped off. When I asked if there was anywhere indoors the guy said yes but it wasn't safe as there wasn't a camera directly over the door. This didn't inspire confidence!

Drinks - the all inclusive drinks are generally good, however if you're ordering drinks at the pool bar, especially the pre made cocktails, remember to ask for it with alcohol otherwise they will serve you a non alcoholic drink. They don't tell you this!

Pool - the pool was well maintained, and from our perspective looking for a quiet holiday away together, found that the pool got louder and louder as the day went on, and each evening ended up somewhat like spring break for 30 - 50 year olds, with a lot of guests making the most of the all inclusive. There were also lots of people who had taken large flasks which were filled to the brim so that the drinking could go on and on! This wasn't so much of a problem as if we wanted to join in then we did, but if we wanted peace and quiet we just went to the beach.

Staff on the tables at the casino - so rude it's a joke!!! Ask them a question, try to buy chips, basically communicate at all with them and you're given either a grunt or totally ignored!

All in all we had a lovely time away, the weather was amazing but we definitely would not return to this hotel. Their customer service really seemed to revolve soley about making more money for the hotel and so felt very unpersonal and lacking in care. The food was awful but we could have overlooked that if all the staff were lovely! It's a shame as there were a few members of staff who were really great, namely all the staff at La Brisa were brilliant. The hotel gave us what we had been looking for, a chill on a beach in the sunshine but I'm sure there are nicer hotels with equally amazing beaches in the dominican republic.

We were at the BBB in May 2014. I have been to many all inclusive resorts including the Secrets chain. I was pleasantly surprised by the Barceló. The hotel grounds are immaculate We stayed in an ocean front room. This was the closest we have ever been to the beach. We were on the 3rd floor and the view was spectacular. The resort is huge. The Barceló Beach is connected to the Barceló Palace. Within the Palace it seemed like there were several areas you could stay. They have trams that run back and forth all day long if you don't like to walk. Most of the restaurants are in the Palace. So everyday we would walk to over to eat and then ride the tram back. One more thing about our room, this is the first hotel where my husband and I would wake up freezing every morning. The a/c was the best we've ever had.

The beach is beautiful. Plenty of chairs and palm trees to sit under. They could use some umbrellas though. Beach service was slow. Water was calm. You could see the waves breaking out on the reef which made the water very calm.

Food was very good. Our favorite restaurant was the Chez Gourmet. I also really enjoyed the French restaurant over at the Palace. Also the breakfast at the Palace buffet was bigger and better. They let you make your own Bloody Mary's there. Over at the adult side, there was no alcohol at breakfast. Go figure.

We only saw a little bit of the entertainment shows. I will say that the dancers were working very hard and it was enjoyable.

Overall, I would stay at the Barceló again, probably on the Palace side in the Jr. Suite Ocean Front rooms. We would pass them every morning and you could see that they had a Jacuzzi on the balcony.

Room Tip: Go for the ocean front rooms. The view was worth the extra money. We stay in room 6083. You could...

This is my go to vacation spot for relaxation! The food is great, unlike many all inclusive resorts. If you go you must book a dinner reservation at La Brisa for a great seafood dinner on the beach! All staff members are polite and curteous, But there are 3 employees that really made our stay and outstanding experience. Ana Henriquez, the concierge at the Premium Club check-in made every little detail of our trip an amazing one! She guided us to great restaurants, and places to visit on the island. Carlos at the Lobby bar knew us by name and face within an hour of our first stay, he was extremely friendly and has a great personality. His partner at the bar, Anny Herrera, made us some great drinks and gave some good advice on places to visit while we were in town. Every one of these staff members remembers us by face EVERY time we visit. We go about every 6-8 months, only on our second visit they ALREADY remembered us! Outstanding service from all of them!

Room Tip: Definitely go with Premium Club!

Upon arrival, after being shuffled to the front desk. I found out that my reservation had been changed because of the spelling of my name. So I had to wait for them to find me another room and told that they will see what they can do because they're at 99.49% capacity. 32 minutes later I was finally given a room. Keep in mind my reservations were sign, sealed and ready to go for well over 90 days. The room description stated that this is a Superior Ocean Front. In fact the room is a regular double bed with ocean view. NOTHING SUPERIOR ABOUT IT ALL!!! For some reason I thought we were supposed to have a minibar in the room including alcohol. The small college size room refrigerator came stocked with Coke Cola Products and Dominican Beer. Absolutely no alcohol. My sister's room smelled of mildew, house keeping came in and sprayed something on the wall and said NO PROBLEM RIGHT. My sister asked to have her room changed she to was told that they couldn't move her because they were at capacity. Later that night the air conditioning unit began to leak and her bed was soak and wet. House keeping came changed the bed and told her not to leave the air running, she could only have the air off or on so it wouldn't happen again. I asked to pay for upgrade even though we had a credit to upgrade and was told NO!!! I was not impressed with the food or the service, at most of the restaurants we had a reservation and was seated in a timely manner but once your seated good luck... There was one young man DeAngelo he worked in the restaurant on the beach he was actually doing everything he could to make sure that our 1hour 12minute, service was a little more bearable. I'll say this we drank plenty of water with a lot of smiles and apologies from him. The beach Olympics very fun and AGAIN HATS OFF TO DEANGELO, he even sang Happy Birthday to me in both languages!!!
