Me and my girlfriend stayed at this hotel from the 20th of may for 2 weeks, after reading alot of negative reviews before going we were getting worried that we had made a bad choice, but we thought we would give it the beneift of the doubt and see what we thought rather than what others did, im glad we did !

The hotel and grounds were immaculate very well looked after.

Food as a whole was good I always found enough to fill my plate, more than once on a few occasions! I didn't suffer from any form of dodgey tummy from the food and none of the 6-7 people we started talking to had problems either including the seafood. So I really dont see how so many people say they got ill.

Anywhoo

The service and entertainment teams were really lovely they honestly msde this holiday that much bettet how they can be so energetic and happy all the time I have no idea. I do feel however that as most employees work for 7 days then go for 3 or 4 before coming back, you can have some good and some less enthusiastic people coming and going but as I say all the people we had during sre stay were stella especially Alex who is one of the entertainment guys that bloke is a legend.

Entertainment and bars. I will say during the day aslong ad your not a boring old mope who wants to do nothing not talk and be boring all day theres plenty to do apart from all the excursions you can go on which you have to pay for, me and my girlfriend whent on the saona cruise its mind blowing. A whole day of being on the sea going to a desert being cooked lunch by the locals snorkeling over a coral reef with thousands of fish (no sharks) walking in the nstural pools which are about half a mile from shore the water is only waist height and theres loads of starfish to hold. Then onto a catamaran all the way back with lots of rum and dancing ! As for the hotel there's a full days activities which will keep you busy or the amazing pool to sit by under your bed or on sunbeds or down on the rock free lush beach only iffy part about the beach is thats its public so maybe once a day a group of young kids from the flea market, a 20 min walk from the hotel on the beach, will come up to the hotel beach and start dancing asking for money just ignore them they go away with no real fuss. The nighttime entertainment is ok in the club the show changes every night and bingo is fun coming from a 24 and a 23 year old must be saying something !

So I hope this all makes sense and helps you make your decision. If you want a top notch clean Caribbean holiday and to be spoilt with no kids about this is a brilliant place to go.

Great Adult Only Riu!
This was our 3rd trip to this resort, having been to Riu Palace Punta Cana. Riu Bambu and Riu Palace Macao, this is by far our favorite Riu! Affordable, very clean, great rooms, beds very comfortable, lovely shower, excellent food and choices, good entertainment & amazing friendly staff every where who go above and beyond to please you and welcome you to their country! Most speak some English and are happy when you try some Spanish. There are 2 pools, bar pool and larger one as well with lots of loungers. We prefer the beach as sand is white, water is turquoise blue and usually nice breeze. sometime waves are a bit high but not always. Lots of Palm trees for shade and this too is one of the reasons we love the Riu Resorts, don't need Huts. Need to go before breakfast and get your loungers in shade, but usually no trouble finding chairs if not needing shade. Grounds are wonderful and Gardeners are always seen busy every day doing some trimming, planting etc. Staff all work very hard, long hours and many days, never expect tips but are very happy to receive even a $ as recognition of their work. We hope to return again next year as this resort has all we want and could ask for & 3 times now has never let us down!!

Room Tip: Rooms are all good! Side by Buffet Restaurant a little quieter at night!

We stayed from 14th-25th June with Thomsons in room 3343 which has a stunning room with a view of the pool, beach and the ocean.

The room is above the bar so expect some noise in the evenings until around 11pm however this didn't keep us up if we went to sleep early.

MEN MUST BRING LONG TROUSERS OR JEANS for the al cart restaurants, smart 3/4 jeans will not be accepted. I forgot to bring a pair and had to wear my wifes black linen trousers instead lol.

We are 28 and 30 and had an excellent time and meet other couples the same age, younger and older and had no issues or problems.

Food - for an all inclusive hotel the main buffet had a fantastic amount of food. You will not go hungry and the people who say otherwise must be very picky or stupid!

For somewhere quiet for dinner walk to the bottom of the main buffet and sit on the left.

Drinks - the bar staff and Restraunt staff could do nothing wrong and always asked if you wanted another drink when your glass was half empty or refilled it without asking.

pool - we reserved our sunbeds when we went to breakfast at around 8.30am and had no problems.

This was the best all inclusive holiday we went on and everything was included!

We will be booking for next year without a doubt.. thank you to all the staff there are so many who work hard and were greaful and thankful for any tips even $1 which reception had plenty of change.

I am not usually one to write reviews, however I feel a duty to inform future customers of the security issues within this hotel. I went to the Riu Palace Macao with my boyfriend on a holiday to celebrate our graduation on June 12th-June 26th 2014. Overall the hotel is lovely and has a nice beach and we enjoyed the evening entertainment and food. However we had serious issues with our room (3311). First of all, I noticed around 2 days into the holiday that my perfume lids were switched around and had been used. This made me suspicious and so we decided to put everything of value into the room safe, thinking it would be safe there. We also received phonecalls every evening, around 3-4 calls where nobody spoke and on one occasion a Spanish man spoke asking if it was reception...how could he make this mistake when reception's number is 0 and our number is 3311? Then on the second week of our holiday, we had 3 bottles of Mama Juana sitting next to our TV, there was only 2 bottles left when we returned to our room that day and on one of the bottles, the seal was broken and had been opened and there was some missing. This to us was extremely strange, why would the Dominicans want to steal this? We complained to reception who told us some absolute rubbish about the alcohol evaporating which did not explain whatsoever how the seal was actually broken on one bottle and the other bottle had completely disappeared! Reception told us to return to our room where someone came to our room and gave us another 2 bottles, not explaining at all why this happened in the first place. At this point in the holiday we were starting to feel extremely strange and weird about our room and were getting suspicious of housekeeping who seemed to be in our room an awful lot of times during the day and evening.
The next evening though, my boyfriend and I were going out and so we went to take money out of the safe for our trip. This is when we found that we had money missing. We knew exactly how much we had spent so far because you do not spend much money on these kinds of holidays where you only really need tipping money. However 100 USD had been stolen from our locked safe. We were extremely confused because the safe was locked and had no visible damage to it. However after researching it online and reading further reviews we realised that safe theft has happened before in this hotel. We went straight to reception asking to speak to the hotel manager, he came to speak with us and we explained the situation. He said he would look at the phonecall log and check the rota of who had been in our room and speak with us the next day. We also told our Thomson holiday rep who said they would file a report and speak with management and reception. We felt extremely unsafe in our room and the weird phonecalls continued. We noticed the next evening that the maid was 4 doors down the corridor when the first phonecall of the night happened, 30minutes later when we got a second phonecall she was still at that same room (this was the evening trip from the maids and we were wandering why she was in that room so long - she only needs to replace towels at this time) then 5 mins after the second call, the maid had magically changed towels in the next 3 rooms and was at our door, giving a quick knock and opening our door. My boyfriend went to the door and then she gave us towels. We thought that this was pretty weird how she got to our room so quick after spending so long in that room. However after this, we felt that noone should have been in our room after we had already received our towels and felt safe enough to go down to the show. Yet when we returned somone had been moving things around in our room. There was absolutely no need for another visit to our room?! The next day the same manager we spoke to met with us and basically told us there was nothing he could do for us, only 2 people in the hotel knew the mastercode for the safe and if we wanted we could go to the police station. It was our last day and we did not want to spend it at a police station where we have read that they are no help and mock you. He said he checked the phonecall records but it only logs outside calls and noone outside the hotel had called us - this is what we expected because we had a suspicious feeling it was internal calls of the thieves checking if we were in our room from calling us from another room in the hotel. Also the Thomson Rep who is clearly pals with hotel staff basically said it was impossible for someone to take money out of a locked safe. They were extremely unhelpful and made us feel stupid. We told our friends within the hotel the situation and warned them of theft. After returning to the U.K, one day later I have received an email from our friends on their honeymoon saying that their room and a further 5 rooms on the same floor (ground floor) were robbed. Their boom box, designer underwear, electric toothbrushes, perfumes, raybans were all stolen. There is clearly major internal issues within the hotel and management are either involved or just turn a blind eye to it. We would seriously like to warn anyone travelling to this hotel because you do not feel safe at all and management do absolutely nothing to help you. If you are going there then do not bring any extra cash you will not use, do not take any valuable jewellery or belongings and perhaps think of locking them in your suitcase or bringing a safety device which can tell if someone has been in your safe. We started taking photos of our safe arrangements every day after we had money taken. Our friends and the other people who were robbed are currently refusing to move from reception until they find them another hotel. It is extremely disappointing for this to happen because it is a beautiful hotel. The staff though seem desperate for tips and are not the friendliest. Management are absolutely terrible and this hotel has planned, organised theives working within it. Check for balcony doors being unlocked by maids etc, another thing we noticed and was happening to other customers. We would strongly recommend you to not visit this hotel, there are other much nicer hotels who are much safer to stay with. The idea of strange theives being in your room is extremely disconcerting and we do not want anyone elses holidays to be ruined by this. We can safely say we will be contacting the director of RIU with our complaints and strongly recommend you to read the complaints board you can find on google with further instances of robbery within the hotel. I know you think this will not happen to you, we are a young couple aged 22 and never thought this could happen yet it has. Please do not be ignorant to the problems and keep yourself and your belongings safe because we highly doubt the hotel will do anything about this nor Thomson whom we will also be contacting.
Have a safe trip.

•The beach is amazing• , best beach we have ever been too in the world . Clear, deep water for swimming , no rocks or shells. The resort is great in the day. "Nightlife is boring" there is no beach bar that stays open at night, they do not follow there posted calendar or logistics. The casino is cool and fun. •••But do not drink the water or ice.••• You will get bad chills and diarrhea•• Unlike Mexico they "do not" have bottled water in the buffet or restaurants. • But you can bring it with you from your room. 95% of the staff do not speak English or understand simple English words that they should know in the service industry. Dominicans are not as friendly as Mexicans. If you are a female you will get hit on over aggressively by the staff. The prices change daily in the resort. ••• They will hustle you if you let them. ••• My wife found a green caterpillar in her salad at the lunch buffet ••• I got "food poisoning" from the raw sushi at the Japanese restaurant••• 2 hours before we left my wife had a" rat " run over her foot in the breakfast buffet. The staff laughed at her. ••• And the sad part is we tipped well all week, no one else tips, for lousy
service. ••• we also found a water bug in our hotel room bathroom.

It was a fun trip but until Riu become cleaner establishment i would recommend a different resort if your going to Punta Cana , DR

We have just returned from 2 weeks at this hotel. This is the first time that I have felt it necessary to post a review on anything. Location - beautiful. Hotel - perfect. Food - something for everyone and delicious. Staff - couldn't have been anymore attentive if they tried. Activities - all day (if you wished). Entertainment - typical of hotels 100% effort put in. The restaurants are a fixed "themed" menu which was slightly disappointing. Came home and looked at brochure for 2015 - Thomsons not flying from Glasgow, won't stop me going back though. Raul in the Lobby Bar is great. Casino - went once, lost !

Room Tip: Not all rooms face the sea which is a must
