“second great trip”
Reviewed 15 April 2012

This was my wife and I 5th trip to Punta Cana and 2nd time secrets and not our last.Check in was very easy,we were given our cool towel and champagne and a rose for the wife was a nice touch. We were in room 5147 the perfect room we hope to get it next year. Thanks to Isobel for keeping the room clean and giving us fresh towels every day, aswell as the person who kept minni bar stock. Now as far as Junior,Angel,Carlos andthe rest of pool staff they made it the best vacation ever. Speedy and his crew are also included in this.We ate most of our meals at La Riviera [buffe] lots to chose from the beach grill burgers are so good they melt in our mouth. Also had a great steak and chicken dinner at Seaside Grill. The evening show in the secret plaza is good for older and younger couples and the Chris Billzard show was one of the things that made us come back as well as the coffee they serve at the plaza. We have been home only afew days and weall of you already.thank you for every thing see you next April.

Room Tip: 5147 poolveiw is perfect

my husband and i, we stayed in the hotel from december 25, 2011 till january 4, 2012 and we loved it !
we went already in the dominican republic 9 times, but first time in this hotel.
all the hotels was 5 star hotels, but this hotel is one of the best or maybe the best we was stayed. I can't belive the negative reviews.
the rooms are big, new, nice, clean and comfortable. some people wrote, the rooms smelled bad. hey, this is the caribbean, here is a very high air moisture......this is nature.
the same problem with the seaweed. the hotel staff is cleaning the beach every day. i can say the same, this is nature and sea. in sea are seaweed. so where is the problem ? if outside on the high sea is a storm, come more seaweed to hotel. why is the hotel guilty ?
the motorboats (parasail, speedboats, excursions ) question is the same too. the sea is no hotel....
the pool area is big and wonderful. we loved all the bridges, so cute.
the food. i'm very-very picky, but the food is so great ! at the buffet entrance can you desinfect your hands. i have never see befor. we loved the main buffet. every day different food and very good.
the staff is so cool and nice. after one sip from your glas come someone nice guy and refill it. on the afternoon was the main buffet closed, but every day i get a great espresso if i asked. this is not as matter of course.
the new eve buffet and the party was so awsome ! so beautiful. so great decoration. thank you !
the service on the beach was top. every day fresh pineapples, coconut. and barbeque.
the night beach party with band is a really cool idea.
the rooms service is good too. all of the world must be waiting a little bit for coming if the hotel is full. c'mon this is vacation, you can wait a little bit.
all the guys from the staff we met was very friendly with a big smile. thank you ! i think the problem is, some people come here and think everyone who here works is a own butler. this is so bad. look inside ! if you are friendly, the staff is friendly too. this is all and this is not only a tip question.
the staff speaks very good english comparison with other hotels. who says not good enough, - learn spanish.
we personally enjoyed the chill-out music on evening. if we needed more trouble we went to the sister hotel.
Thank you so much Mr. Alcaraz for the late check-out on our last day ! You're so great !
we loved this hotel and we come back ! Thank you !

My girfriend and I originally planned on coming to this resort for one week, although hurricane Irene and some plane cancellations kept us on the island for two. The first couple of days was non-stop rain; which initially you would think would ruin a trip. That was not the case at Secrets Royal Beach. The resort staff made our trip an amazing first time exploration of the world outside of the U.S. Once the weather cleared up it was the most amazing vacation. Jazmin, Speedy, Akon, Oscar, Steves, Carolos, Willy, Angel, Minnie, Mickey Mouse, Junior, Blondie made this trip for us - without them, we would have been miserable. They provided entertainment, many laughs, non-stop fun day and night, unforgetable service, and genuine care to making sure we loved our stay. They were the most hard working people we've ever met in our lives, and hope that the resort recognizes that. The food was one item that we felt could improve. The steak house was the best thing going for them and it was only available a few nights a week. The other resturaunts could of used some help, and it was not the greatest thing being apart of a seperate non-adults only resort. The buffet was good but we were not a fan of it utilizing the cheaper goat derived products (milk, cheese, etc.) The romantic dinner and massage is a must and the pool bar was clutch for daytime drinking. At the end of the two weeks we were happy to be going back home, but sad to be leaving our new freinds that ultimately made this resort a 5 star experience for us.

Room Tip: Oceanview on the top floor - it's a bit of a price jump but so worth it!

Just returned from an AMAZING six-days at Secrets and look forward to going again. Lovely suite - had swim-up, close to the beach. Housekeeping twice daily. Pool and beach bar service was constant and courteous. Dinner at two a la carte restaurants - Seafood was very good. Steak not so much - but it wasn't awful. Buffet provided nice variety and GREAT breakfasts! Enjoyed grill for burgers and chicken in afternoons. Most credit goes to Alexis - our aide/butler. He was so kind, so helpful, genuine. Relaxing couples massage at Spa. Also most noteworthy - Secrets is beautifully maintained - grounds are exceptionally clean.

Room Tip: Swim up suite is definitely worth it! Building 4 gets great sun.

This is our fourth Easter in punta cana while all have been good you can not beat a secrets resort.we enjoy adults only vacations with above average service and dinning, the secrets resorts offer this type of vacation.the general manager Gonzalo Alcaraz runs an excellent resort.I have to commend the food and beverage Manager and the head chef for an excellent variety at all three restaurants. We received exceptional care from the maitre D Juan Carlos at the seaside grill, this made our trip one of the best ever .we can not forget Carlos Carela who now can say marvelous instead of excellenta .all the ladies at the restaurant check in's spoke excellent English and were a joy to talk with before being seated. As we spend x-mass in Mexico we plan on next Easter in DR

Room Tip: We had an ocean view room, but the swim ups and pool view were just as good.try to stay close to the...

My wife and I are seasoned vacation travelers to numerous resorts, inclusive of cruises and I travelled professionally in my working career. Quality and value are key consideration when we look for a vacation site . This extends to the dining component of an "all inclusive" resort and we go to extended research to find 5 star locations , typically looking at the top 10 in a region. In terms of resort rating expectation the dining component is about 40 % of the total with rest allocated to site, room , beach and overall service.

On the positive side Secrets Royal Beach Punta Cana has a great layout with a meandering pool within the grounds, the vegetation was lush and green, grounds properly cared for , a nice white beach with lots of palms to filter the sun. The room was ample size and mattress comfortable. The buildings were low rise ( 3 storey ) tiled walkways everywhere and clean throughout.

Thus with exception of the rather plain front lobbey the initial impression of the site, room and beach met our expectations in consideration of the fairly hefty price of this vacation, which incudentally was for our 41 st anniversary.

That however was the end of our positive experience. With exception of the Buffet restaurants which were OK , the remaining a la carte restuarants were pretty basic to downright terrible . The italian restuarant ( Capers ) was very dark, it took 45 minutes just to get an entree and when the soup came it was cold. Lot's of waiters running back and forth but there was no order to the process. My seafood pasta when it finally came had little flavour and tasted like it was a quick reheat right out of a can.

The " Spice " restaurant was a joke. we made resrvation to sit at the Tepanyaki table ( guests on 3 sides surrounding a cooking surface.) The meal consisted of fried eggs, rice , cut up chicken , overcooked beef and tiny shrimp , prepared on the grill and served on plates. Whereas I was expecting an experience similar to the Japanese " Benihana " restaurants what we got was a meal that was no better than one would get at a food court in a mall. The cook ( not a chef for sure ) all the time banging away with his spatulas indicating " excellente "

At the " Seaside Grill " I ordered what i thought would be top sirloin , mediam rare which when it came looked like a flank steak folded in half and it was well done .

The calamari at this or another restaurant was battered and deep fried.

The list goes on . What is particularly galling is that Secrets Royal Beach is adjacent to a sister resort called NOW Larimar which is much less expensive but is larger and has 4 a la carte restaurants vs 2 at Secrets . Thus the Secrets resort guests are directed towards the 4 restaurants at Larimar. It goes without saying that the lesser cost resort would have lower quality and/ or choice . Thus we paid a higher price to be at Secrets to be directed to dine at lower valued location.

Some general comments

> peanuts for snacks at the pool bar we stale. One would think they could get that right

> communication is difficult .

> people were nice but service was wanting ( mainly due to communication problems )

> Secrets guest can use the internet service at Now Larimer. There are 2 free terminals which typically have a long wait time of one can go to the " extra charge " internet room . Note: For the price charged at this resort there should be a free internet room at Secrets

Bottom line for me is that the negative dining experience far outweighs the positives of this resort. Thus the best I would rate this resort would be a 3.5 to 4 and had we known the details before we chose this location , we would not have chosen it

Room Tip: We were in the 4000 building with a room ( at extra cost ) overlooking the meandering pool. We were...

Excellent choice for romantic and intimate couple vacations, very Zen and peaceful, beautiful gardens, beach, and rooms. The food is high quality with a fantastic spanish chef, and the service is impeccable. Rooms very clean, courtesy of Miss Santana. Nothing negative to say except for the tap water to strictly avoid. Great staff: Faustino, Valentin, Wilkin, Alarilla, Robert, Junior, and so many others... I did not enjoy all our 2 weeks as much as I would have because of an infection from the tap water(to avoid even to brush your teeth), but next time I'll know!!! This was our 2nd time in that couple's paradise and surely not the last...

Room Tip: Wathever room, it's great!
