After visiting Secrets St James in Jamaica two years previous we honestly believed that no where else could top it, how wrong we were! From the start to the very end our two weeks at Secrets Royal Beach was amazing!

We are a couple in our mid 20s who flew from Manchester on 12th April 2014 for two weeks.

Checking in was prompt and efficient. We were given our room 5213. The rooms were very well equipt, having the most comfortable bed we have ever slept in, the hair dryer is great, i wish i hadnt brought mine as the voltage is different compared with England. The mini bar topped up most days. My only problem was the maid only changed our bed after 12days and she would arrive to clean at 5pm when we wanted to be back in the room. The lighting isnt the best in the bedroom but do your make up in the bathroom where you will find a magnified mirror. Our block was close to the entertainment, good for watching from balcony on an evening. Hot tub on balcony was what made it different to any hotel we have stayed in previous.

There is a lazy river style pool running around the property, this is where we spent most of our time! Very quiet and peaceful. The main pool was to noisey for us. Our favourite bar tender, Angel served us daily, what a character this guy is!! He taught us lots of Spanish and made us laugh alot!! We didnt have a lot to do with the entertainment team as we sat near the lazy river and they tended to be near the main pool.

Most staff do everything to make your stay enjoyable. The staff working at the bar in the pool could be some what rude if you dont have a tip in your hand, they tend to ignore you and serve others! Rueban was one of these and when he served us was very abrupt!! After paying over £4,600 for a couple for two weeks you dont expect to tip absolutely everybody.
Ruddy, the man at the towel hut was very pleasant and friendly, he spoke to my boyfriend everyday making us feel at home and valued.

The beach is out of this world, yes it has a small amount of sea weed but the sand is white and powdery, the water is clear, it really is beautiful.

The room service is the best i have had at any all inclusive resort. Nachos, steak, pasta, chicken ceasar salad, ribs the list goes on! All served by lovely well mannered people. It came within 20minuets most of the time. We ate at the NOW resort some evenings, the kids didnt really bother us. Our favourite restaurant was the Italian, it is a buffet to start with then al a carte for main. The chicken lasange was our favourite to start with. The lamb in the French was nice the first time then not the second. We were super impressed with Secrets as when booking the hibatchi table in reception we explained my boyfriend is allergic to nuts, the gentleman gave us a card that explained this in Spanish! What a lovely touch! There are only three restaurants on the secrets side, this needs to improve in my opinion as most people come to adults only resorts to spend time away from children and you really have to eat at the NOW side for a bit of variety.

Our Thomson rep was helpful when we had problems with our Soana Island excursion. Be sure to do the zip linning as one of your trips, its only half a day and well worth it.

You can hire dvds free of charge from the reception, most are films fairly new out which was a plus! If we come back again which i really hope we do, we would pay extra for a swim up room in the end block nearest the beach.

Thank you Secrets Royal Beach for an unforgetable holiday!

We just got back from a terrific stay at Secrets. We stayed in the Preferred building and it was well worth the extra money. Santos was the bartender in our private lobby and he was nothing but awesome positive energy. The drinks were great as were the appetizers laid out prior to dinner.

We based ourselves at the Preferred pool in the morning and spent most of our pool time at the main pool. Willy Mz was a terrific bartender and a lot of fun to talk to. He was very friendly and it was nice getting to know him while chilling at the swim up bar. Really enjoyed Akon and Milky Way too. All these folks work very hard and long hours. They made our trip.

Beach was amazing and we took long daily walks.

Breakfast was your typical fair at all-inclusive resorts. I thought they could be more creative for the ala carte breakfast choices in the Preferred restaurant on the beach.

Enjoyed all of our meals except for the Mexican restaurant. It was terrible and gave me an upset stomach. All of the rest were terrific and I enjoyed having lobster at lunch.

Oh, the foam party in the pool was a blast. Felt like I was in college all over again!

Thanks to the entire staff for a wonderful stay. Now about that 10 plane delay ...

My husband and I chose this resort for our babymoon to celebrate our first baby. We were not disappointed. We were there from 4/18-4/25 and the resort and weather was beautiful. Upon arriving, we were automatically greeted with a welcome champage. As soon as they realized I was pregnant and couldn't drink, the person checking us in called the bar and less than 5 minutes, I was greeted with a mango smoothie. We were upgraded to the preferred lounge without even knowing. The room was spacious and clean. The food was good (not great), but was definitely eatible. The resort was "adults only" which was really nice because we can relax in the pool area without screaming kids. I definitely got to rest on my babymoon. We were never left thirsty because there was always someone there to bring us drinks. We had entertainment provided by the hotel everynight which was great. The dancers were energetic and the show was entertaining. My husband and I had a great time and we hope that we can go back again someday.

My husband and I got married at this resort in March 2014. We had a small wedding of about 13 guests and ourselves. We're all "foodies" who love great wine and are particular about accommodations. I must say, that the entire time we were at the resort we only had three things anyone could find to complain about.

1) Spice, the restaurant on the Now side was pretty bad. The only good here was the tuna appetizer, and it was amazing. Everything else we all ordered wasn't good at all.
2) Capers was also not very good at all. Plain, bland, pasta and buffet at dinner.
3) There are a TON of sales people on the beach. Individually they aren't too pushy. If you tell someone you aren't interested they'll leave you alone. But then another one comes by 10 minutes later. They're all resort employees so they're professional and respectful, but it just gets annoying.

Otherwise, we all REALLY enjoyed your trip. The sushi restaurant was great! Everyone's favorite restaurants were the Seaside grill (AMAZING filet) and Mercure - wonderful french food! Oceana was just ok. Skip it if you don't have time to go to all of them. Also, the beach grill has pretty good food in the afternoons and we were all impressed with the variety on the lunch buffet. There was always fresh fish and even lobster tails on the lunch buffet one day!

You can't ask for better staff. Santos, the sommelier, was one of our favorite employees, along with Angel at the swim up bar, Carlos at the buffet and dinners, and Francina, our wedding coordinator. But everyone is super kind and helpful and will remember you and what you like by the end of the week.

The beach is beautiful and there are plenty of chairs. You have to get down there REALLY early to get a covered hut. The bad thing is the resort rule is you can't claim chairs (by putting down towels, or books, etc) until 8 am. But I went down one morning at 7;15 and they were all already called for. But there are plenty of chairs and shade you can find elsewhere.

We chartered a boat through the people selling tours on the beach and went scuba diving at the reefs, went to the aquarium and swam with sharks and sting rays, and then hung out on a sand bar. I definitely recommend this excursion! It was a lot of fun!

Overall, everything went perfect. The trip, the wedding, the food, the atmosphere, the staff, the beds. There's nothing we wanted that we didn't have.

As picky as we all are, seriously, I don't understand any of the negative reviews on here. Our rooms didn't stink, we had plenty of towels, or any of the other problems people had.

Oh, we did have a bad experience in the Casino. We were given "coupons" for match play and expected match play and black jack to have the same rules as in the states. It definitely does not. And the people in the Casino didn't speak good English but still managed to be rude to us and argue with us. We all just left after one hand because they don't seem to follow standard rules of black jack.

Internet usage is $4 for 15 minutes in their internet cafe. That was nice to have to check email every few days.

If you want good cigars for a good price, head down the beach past Now Larimar. However, don't let the pushy sales people on the beach stop you and walk you to their scary alley of store fronts!! The cubans are obvious fakes but once you're in the store the employees literally stand in your way and block the door trying to force you to buy something. Instead, go to this little cigar shop right to the right of this "Dominican Walmart". Real cigars and jewelry, and non pushy, knowledgeable staff. They're also rolling cigars right in the store and it's pretty fun to watch.

That's really about all I think to say. It was a really great trip. I wouldn't hesitate to go back at all! In fact, we all want to make sure we do within the next 3-5 years.

Room Tip: We were on the first floor of a swim up room, closest to the beach (where it stays sunny all day). We were actually the second closest room to the beaches and it was a perfect location! Right by the beach, swim up bar, lunch buffet and most of the restaurants. Plus you can sit on your porch and the waiters at the swim up bar will come straight to you to bring you drinks. We had the best room of the group because we specifically asked for this room thanks to other reviewers.

This was our first trip to Punta Cana and I think we absolutely made a wonderful decision in choosing Secrets Royal Beach. I am already planning our return trip.
After a quick 20min ride from airport to resort we were greeted with champagne and a cold towel. We arrived around 1:20pm and proceeded to check in however our room wasn't quite ready. After a quick review of resort map and paperwork we were told the way to the beach grill where we could get lunch and explore the grounds til room was ready, which was about an hour.
We had ocean view room which also overlooked the pool. Room number was 5377, king bed, stocked mini fridge everyday, and bottle of champagne chilling and also rum. I'm not sure if those were standard as we were having our wedding there and the champagne may have been part of our package. I have read reviews about rooms being dim and yes it could have better lighting but who goes to a tropical island to sit in the room. The room was cleaned incredibly well everyday and turned down service every night. We requested certain drinks to be stocked and they were. Plenty of water provided also as we used this to brush teeth and drink. After our ceremony we had another bottle on champagne chilling and a banner saying "just married" was placed on our door which i thought was a wonderful touch.
The grounds were beautiful and well maintained. Grounds crew working everyday and also crew on beach cleaning up seagrass. Beach was great and relaxing and never had issue getting loungers but we always went to palm tree area and around 8-830. We were usually first ones there. Never went to palapas but they were usually very full early. Also enjoyed the pool area a few times and did not have any trouble getting loungers there either. Usually there around 8-830 also. Loved the pool bar and definitely picks up around 3pm but it was nice to see all the energy coming out of people. Pool had two foam partys and water balloon battles during our stay. Pool servers were always smiling and working hard but also seemed to really be enjoying themselves. We had no problems getting enough alcohol in our drinks as we simply said how we wanted them made, ex. 80% rum 20% coke. Willy Mz knew what we wanted, lol.
Entertainment was also very good and high energy. They were always around doing something whether on beach or by pool and getting guest involved. Nightly entertainment varied but SRB and Now teams can definitely dance. Great shows at both resorts.
Food was always good and fresh. We ate beach grill, La Riveria buffet, Seaside grill and Capers on the Now side. The beach Grill was so good, burgers, dogs, chicken, mahi mahi, steaks. Also had shrimp two days there. Nelson, the server at the grill, was amazing. He took our bubba kegs from us while we waited in line for food and got us a table every time. He would even move our table if we wanted sun or shade. just incredible service from Nelson. La Riveria also very good and considering its somewhat small they pack quite a lot in there and quite a variety. Salad, fruits, plenty of meats to choose from and order from the grill in there. We never went hungry or thirsty.
From the staff to the food to the grounds and entertainment, i absolutely loved being here. We spent 7 nights there and i wish it was more. We are definitely going to head back and i told my wife that next time it will be for a longer stay. A beautiful relaxing vacation and wedding and i wouldn't have changed anything. Feel free to ask questions if you wish.

Room Tip: higher number rooms are closer to beach, pool, restaurants. we had room 5377. third floor and i think only two other rooms were closer to beach.
