Owner description: Three Jesus loving friends with more than 30 years of experience, got together to share their Stoke and all the benefits that Surfing gave them through their life; teaching kids from 4 to 76 years old to Surf, to respect the ocean and nature in general. We are in one of the most beautiful and undeveloped beaches of the Dominican Republic, on the Punta Cana area: Macao Beach, a localism free beach where everybody is welcome, with six different breaks and one of the safest beaches to learn how to surf, and yet exciting enough for experienced surfers. Literally making dreams come true, specially for those that dreamed all their life about riding waves, for those that want to make Surfing their main sports activity, and also for those that just want to get Surfing out of their "bucket list". Surf Shack with showers and lockers.

I like the deep ocean waters, the instructors are patient especially if you never did it before. I will definitely do it again

“Best Day of our Vacation”
Reviewed 2 August 2014

Our visit to Macao Surf Camp was July 24, 2014.
We booked /paid on their website and arranged pickup time at our resort through email (prior to our arrival in the D.R.).

Gustavo picked us up on time & was a very friendly driver. The bonus was Jack (the surfing dog) came along for our drive. When we arrived, Gustavo ran through the lesson basics with our 2 teenagers. In no time they were out catching waves on their boards. After the lesson was over, our teenagers enjoyed boogie-boarding on their own (we brought along our own boogie-board). There was no rush to take us back. Gustavo said to let him know when we were ready.

This beach was very relaxing. Less crowded than our resort, and more natural habitat. We arrived before 11:00 & the beach was almost empty. It got busier later on, but not overly crowded.
A local food hut/ restaurant on the beach, serves drinks, fish & plantains.

This was by far the best day of our vacation!

“Great Experience!!”
Reviewed 29 July 2014 via mobile

My family and I booked the group surf lessons after reading great reviews on trip advisor. They did not disappoint! I emailed them through their website the day before wanting to take lessons. They quickly emailed me back to confirm my requested time. Armando, one of the owners, picked us up at our hotel and drove us to the surf school at Macao beach which is absolutely beautiful. To our surprise my family of 4 was upgraded to private lessons for the same price of $95/person. Armando gave us the initial lessons on land first and then each of us had an instructor in the water while he overlooked, giving us pointers as we went along. If you're beginners like us you will love it!! Granted the waves are not big but perfect if your objective it to be ble to get up on the board and ride it. Our instructors never asked for a tip but we gave them one anyway because we had such a great time and they made the experience lots of fun. We took a break half way through and were given delicious mangos and coconut milk. They also have a photographer there taking pictures which was a bit pricey even after a little negotiation. We are able to view the pictures at the end which captured some great shots so we bought the CD. Armando then drove us back to our hotel and I realized I left my cellphone in the car!! Luckily on their website they have all the owners phone numbers. I was able to call Armando who found the phone and drove it back to us!! He did not even want to accept the tip I insisted he take. Now that is class A service from a class A company! If you are looking for something fun and exciting to do in the DR, I highly recommend MSC!!

“too small waves”
Reviewed 28 July 2014

Macao beach is beautifull, with sandy bottom. Their pick up service is fine. When we arrived l saw there was no waves, only small ones, instructors - or young boys have to push our bords to have any speed. Yes, some boys speak only a little english and they are asking or tip. Lession price is very high, 180 usd for two person, ho. Remember that salary in Dom. Rep. is 250 usd/month. They carged different prices in different hotels, in the nearest Rock C. it costs 120 usd/person. One from Florida said, he asked to rent a board from them, the price is 45 usd for a few hours. After surfing they offer you pictures and video for 25 to 30 usd. In Bali I pay 10 usd for 1.5 hour lesson, also taxi is much cheaper.

“paradise found”
Reviewed 27 July 2014

No one in our family had ever surfed before coming to Macao Surf Camp. So we didn't know what to expect. I had emailed Rafael prior to arriving in DR to arrange our lessons once we got settled at the resort...I was very satisfied with Rafael's promptness in returning all emails and answering questions. That was not only reassuring but also made coordination easier.

The shuttle picked us up on time from our hotel lobby at 12:20 and it was about a straightforward 25 minute drive from Paradisus PC. As soon as we arrived we were just enamored by the beauty of this beach...fine white sand, turquoise waves, endless green palm tree lined shoreline, absence of tourist crowds and only the sound of the waves. There was a tranquility to this beach.

The staff were very friendly. The owners are very involved and seem to take pride in their operation. You could sense that staff enjoyed their work and there was a relaxed air that matched the surroundings. the MSC building was simple with one side for check in and another side where the video/pictures were processed. A free locker was available so we used that, but we left our towels etc on a bench without any problems.

The instructions were very good for kids and adults: we received on-land and in-water instructions and demonstrations. The waves were consistently gentle for us 1st timers. and the sand was fine without any pebbles or coral, so my falls were as cushioned as could be expected. Our grade schooler and high schooler picked up surfing quickly (within the 1st few waves), and their instructors were perfect fits. Almost everyone at MSC was fluent in English. Communication on our visit (as well as emails) was excellent and we were very satisfied. Midway through our visit we took a break and enjoyed fresh coconut water and sweet ripe mangos on the beach...what a life! As another reviewer noted, it was a workout but it was so memorable.

Our impressions: happy, very satisfied, excited and thrilled. Each of us has repeatedly stated that this was a highlight of our vacation. On our next visist to DR, we will return to MSC. We have great memories with Macao Surf Camp.

To enjoy the tranquility of this beach I would recommend coming in the morning or before 1:00PM....tourists started to trickle in midway through our afternoon visit because, as we discovered, excursions often end their day at Macao Beach so there are more people in the afternoon. Bring cash for video, tips etc. We bought the video which also had about 50 pictures and we love it....it captures highlights of the day...we were very happy with the video and would recommend it. Bring a towel. Bring a camera...even if you buy a video you will have an opportunity to make memories of a lifetime; we took pictures on the beach and it was so beautiful that others thought it was photoshopped.
