I have an extreme intolerance to gluten and dairy which made me very nervous to travel to a location where English isn't the language. On the first night the kitchen manager introduced me to Yokander, and from that point on I was in great hands. Yokander was able to show me what I could eat at each meal (I don't think he ever took a break!) and always offered to have a separate meal made for me. I could eat most of the food on the buffet and was able to have a lot of variety at each meal. I ate at the restaurant a few nights, which was a bit more challenging because of the set menu. The service was still fabulous and El Menor made sure I had a meal I could eat. I also want to give Ricardo, one of the servers, a special mention. Great customer service!
As for other aspects of the hotel - it wasn't anything fancy and we did have a few issues (our toilet broke twice, there was one night where there was no hot water for a few hours, and the bed caved in the middle and was very small), but I did feel that it met my expectations for what we paid. We didn't get involved in much of the entertainment, but I did do the agua gym (aquacise) which was a lot of fun and all of the entertainment staff were very happy and had endless energy (again, don't know how they do it with the long days/weeks). The pool was good and we had good drink service. The beach is a less than 5 minute walk with lots of tourist type shops and had a beach side snack shack (I couldn't really eat anything there though). The beach was busy but we always found a chair and the view was beautiful. My only complaint would be the pushy vendors on the street to the beach (don't ever pay what they ask, you can usually get anything at about 10-20% of their first ask price). Vendors were also on the resort two afternoons and seemed to be even more pushy there and they blocked the entrance to the hotel so you couldn't get by without being pestered, which was very annoying.
Overall it was a great vacation, although I would recommend doing an excursion or two to break up the pool/beach time. Special thank you to Yokander, El Menor and Ricardo for making my week and keeping me healthy and happy.
