“Amazing Honeymoon!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 May 2012

My husband and I went to the Excellence for our honeymoon in May 2012. We had such a fantasic stay! The staff was so kind and helpful and waited on us hand and foot. The locals were a little pushy with their sales of souveniers, but we didn't let that bother us. We were treated so well at the resort and were so sad when we had to leave.

Punta Cana's Excellence hotel is definetly one we highly recommend and will be returning to as soon as we can!

Room Tip: We stayed in building 14, far away from the pools, so it was a bit of a walk. But I highly recommend...

Once again we returned to the Excellence Punta Cana and yet again they delivered. As we were returning guests they upgraded us to a master suite which was great. It overlooked the cascade pool and was just fine. We personally didnt find the bed hard at all and plenty of hot water during our stay at anytime.

Food was good and plentiful and the drinks flowed. We were always served the top brands of drinks and happy with the choices.

The entertainments staff that we met were Willy, Luis and Yohanna and they did a fantastic job. Always smiling and the energy they had was amazing.

Omar and Felix at the Kafe Cafe were fantastic and their team worked so hard supplying drinks to us on the beach. Rosemery in the buffet restaurant was always smiling as were all of the waiters and staff.

Edwin and Marlon on the reception area were very approachable and thanks to to Amos our Thomson rep. our room cleaner was Altogarcia and she was brilliant everything was spotless and our rooms were cleaned nice and early.

On our last day we discovered the other pools over the back and spent a good hour plus feeding the fish and watching the kingfishers and cranes catching them.

We met up with friends we had made in Jamaica and also made some other new ones Colleen and Don and Nadia and her friend whose name I cannot spell so wont try to!

Although the red flag was up we did go into the sea to cool off and enjoyed the waves. The guy who cleans the cascade pool did a fab job as did the bartenders in that area.

We will return here and know that we will have a great time so well done Excellence Punta Cana

Room Tip: We were in room 5205 and although it hadnt been refurbished (as yet) it was fine

Just returned from the Excellence on May 20, after arriving on May 13. The hotel was beautiful, but what makes the vacation is the staff and how they want to make sure you have an excellent vacation.

We left on May 13 on Spirit Airlines. I will NEVER fly this airline again. Spirit mentions that they are a discount airline, but they are the most expensive. After booking my flight, I had to pay $10 for each seat each way, $ 38 dollars per bag being checked in 100 dollars in over weight baggage, and 3 dollars for a bottle of water. This was an additional $300.00 I had to pay for the flight. If you want to fly great discount airlines, fly JetBlue or SouthWest.

When we arrived at the Hotel, we were greeted with a huge smile by Danny with 2 glasses of champagne. He told us about the hotel, and would have our bags in the room after lunch. The manager Oriol, had put us in room 11204, a beautiful 3rd floor ocean view room. The room had a huge mini-bar with top shelf liquer as well as beer, wine and botteled water. Everywhere we went we were greeted by any employee who would have a smile and ask how we were doing. Kelvin greeted us at the pool, and offered pizza or a drink of our choice with a huge smile.

Our first day, we met Amilton at the buffet at Toscana. He provided us with excellent service, as well as tips as to which restaurants he would be working in. This gentleman you is very happy to have a job working at this hotel and it shows with his excellent service and great attitude. The Toscana restaurant at night was my favorite, but the Lobster House is excellent as well. All restaurants were good, but these were the two best. The Japanese restaurant was good, but the service from Elias was fantastic. Ask for Jose Luis at the Mexican restaurant for great service and excellent food while being entertained by the Domican mariachis.

The pool was great. You need to go to the Cascada pool, which is a waterfall that is very nice. I have been to the Excellence in Mexico, and the pool at Punta Cana is not as big but very nice. The best drinks are served by Miguel at Blue bar at the pool. Ask for any drink, and Miguel knows how to make it. Also at the bar the happiest employees, always smiling and laughing were Amado and Robert (Tony Montana). The drinks are also top shelf and strong. All the bars were great including the Martini Bar.

The beach was a little rough, but if you walk to to right, there is a private beach, very calm and the water spectacular. There seems to be a reef that the waves cannot pass so the water becomes very calm.

The shows were excellent. My favorite was the Michael Jackson, but the 70's show and circus were very entertaining as well.

Try to buy everything you need before the trip because the pharmacy is very expensive. Bring suntan lotion, repellent, aspirins, and anything else you might need.

I would once again point out the great service I received at the Excellence Punta Cana. I have been to the Excellence in Mexico which is much newer and very nice as well. I love that you do not need to make reservations for any restaurants at any time or any specific day. You go when you want. If you need a great vacation as a couple to rest and relax, and feel like a million dollars, choice the Excellence. Do not go if your single and looking to hook up. Not to many singles at these resorts. I have been to many all inclusive's Dreams, Secrets, Iberostar, etc., but I will be back at the Excellence.

Thank you Excellence for an Excellent vacation.

My husband and I took a 5-day trip to Punta Cana and stayed at the Excellence Resort. We had a wonderful time and the scenery was like paradise! We were celebrting our 10th Wedding Anniversary and my 50th birthday. The staff was very accommodating and the resort and grounds were amazing. We LOVED the swim-up and tiki bars, scenery, sparkling blue pool with comfortable lounge chairs, entertainment, spacious hotel room and wonderful beach! We also liked the mini excursions like horseback riding - all included with the package. Some challenges: the VERY slippery ceramic tile in the hallways (especially when it rained), very hard mattresses,Spanish speaking staff - some spoke English but most only spoke Spanish, problems with food...both my husband and I had digestive problems - mostly after eating vegetables and ice. However, it was a worthwhile, wonderful excursion, one we will remember forever!

Room Tip: The garden rooms are quiet.. the swim-up suites are very busy and sometimes wild.

Truly don't understand any bad reviews for this resort. We stayed there from May 12-19, 2012. Anything you want is handed to you, just ask. The staff truly are working non stop and always have a smile and and Ola! for you. Yes the beds are hard...so? it's better for your back! No the food is not he same as we have back home....did you really think it would be? It's not home! The food is very good, they try so hard to please you, how can you complain? The resort itself is very beautiful. Beach is amazing! Pool is amazing! The shows were very good too, especially the Michael Jackson show. Paola at the pool is great! Always serving with a smile. And yes sometimes there is a language barrier...again...so? YOU are in THEIR country, maybe WE should have learned a little Spanish before we went there! There was never a problem with the language barrier, you can always make yourself understood, and like I said they try so hard to please you. Oh and the spa is GREAT!!!
The resort is great, had a great time. Will definitely go back.
Met some great people by the pool, Anna and Jeff....maybe we will see you at Square One someday!!!
Go and have a great time, the resort is worth it!
And go see Nancy on the beach!
And you do not have to tip but it is truly appreciated! Just a dollar is great, they work so hard for so little and we have so much.

Very nice resort.....not quite as nice as Sandles but still very nice.

The main problem we had was the Room Check in.....we were told BEFORE we arrived that we could chose a room location and that EVERY effort to accommadate us would be made. We requested building SIX....we were put in building TWELVE.....we were told at check in that if we were not happy with our rooms we could be relocated TOMORROW......So we had to live out of our suitcases for the first 24 hours that we were at the resort.

My husband and I just returned from a week long stay (April 21st-28th) which I planned as a 30th birthday surprise. We had an amazing time and would definitely return to the resort! We stayed in a garden view room in building one, second floor. We felt the room was spacious and didn't have any complaints about the bed, shower, tub, AC or mold as other reviewers mentioned. We also didn't experience any noise problems either. We could actually see the ocean from out garden view which was a nice surprise!

Beach/Pool: My husband and I both enjoyed the beach and the pool. We are from Maryland, so to us, the water was not rough compared to Ocean City, MD waves. We both highly suggest taking advantage of the FREE snorking, kayaking and horseback riding offerred by the resort. We enjoyed all three. If you walk by the the part of the beach where the reefs are, you will find a lot of coral washes up too! We found the pool relaxing too. Floats are limited, but we didn't have problems finding some. We do recommend that you get towels early and hang on to them throughout the day. It seemed as though towels were hard to come by when it rains.

Excursions: We also did the zip lining excursion that we booked before we arrived through Fun Jet. Jehison at the excursion desk is great to work with too! We definitely recommend zip lining! I was skeptical, but it was so much fun (and safe!) Well worth the $89 a person. Check out this website if you are interested. http://www.bavarorunners.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=104%3Azip-lines-adventures&catid=41&lang=en

Spa: My husband won a spa package during one of the games (another reason to particpate in games! You win fun things!). I did the jacuzzi, suana and steam. It wasn't exactly what I expected, but there are pleasant surprises! I would recommend it!

Food: My husband and I both felt the food was good. Not as good as the cruise we went on, but still pretty good. We really enjoyed Agave, Chez Isabelle and Spice. We didn't like Oregana or Barcelona. We didn't have any complaints about the buffet for breakfast or lunch. We both enjoyed trying new foods as well. We have to give a BIG THANK YOU to Carlos! He works at the buffet and Agave. He's an amazing server and went above and beyond for us. We miss him already!

Suggestions:
1. TIP! Tips (even $1) go a long way. We learned that early on. We didn't tip everyone, but those who deserved it were tipped. No one seemed to expect it, but they seem very appreciative. We thought the staff were great at the resort! Everyone was very friendly to us and we enjoyed having the staff teach us basic Spanish each day as well!
2. If you get car sick, take something with you for the ride to the resort from the airport. I get car sick, but I did enjoy the sites during the ride. The roads are VERY bumpy so I recommend medication for those who get car sick.
3. Don't get worried about the weather before you go. It may call for rain every day, but that's normal. It rained steady one day, but we found plenty to do that day.
4. Ask Darvin at the front desk to take your picture. We did and he ended up having us take about 10 pictures. One of the pictures is actually one of our favorites from the trip! It was fun to do a mini photo shoot with him!
5. Bring an underwater camera with you. They are about $25-28 at the store on the resort.
6. Explore the resort. We enjoyed the Macaws and Flamingos around the ponds and greenery at the front of the resort. My husband enjoyed feeding the Flamingo!

Friends recommended this resort to us and we would definitely recommend it to others! We hope to return to this resort in the future!

Room Tip: We recommend a basic room and using the money you save to spend on excursions!
