The bus over was an adventure! Just hang on and have some fun. remember you are on vacation. Arrived hotel BEAUTIFUL champagne instantly and cold towel to wipe your hands. Room was wonderful the only downfall was the air could of been cooler but we were on the top floor with vaulted ceiling and our friends had a 2nd floor room which wasn't vaulted and it was much cooler. We didn't have an ocean view but the garden view was beautiful and you really don't need an ocean view because only a few rooms after walking around are true ocean view and you are not in your room much so why do you need it. the interior of the room was nice. stocked bar always of beer and bottle water, jacuzzi tub in the middle and free porn on channel 21... it was so much fun! some people when we read reviews didn't like it but seriously turn it off if you don't. I would offer a peace of advice for the room.. when you come bring fabric softner for the closet if you hang clothes and drawers if you unpack... we came home and noticed after washing we still had this musky spell on our clothes. not a super big deal but just wanted to through that out there. Had a few favorite waiters and restaurants.. Agrave (mexican) ate twice at and enjoyed the waiter Nelvin. we had so much fun there and the food was seriously soooo good! the house wine is chile which was so good but they also have wines you can charge to the room which we did a couple of nights. Jonathan who worked at Kafe Cafe was super cool and always had a smile on his face ask for him:) I also recommend the mama-juana which is the baby maker:) the hotel has a club on the property which was so much fun and every night they have a performance by the entertainment staff of the hotel soooo much fun!!!! the best shopping is Pandora's outside the hotel grounds on the beach next to the walmart. He has the best pricing and -with price tags. no hassle shopping and he has the best mama-juanna in town. we spent a lot of time with owner of Pandoras Mark and Fritz and had good conversation with good rum! I would recommend Pandors over any other shop in the area. overall great hotel, food and service along with meeting some great people from all over. I would come back:)

My husband and I stayed at Excellence Resorts for our honeymoon. I'll keep the review short but honest. The service of the resort was awesome. The workers almost seemed excited to serve and wait on you. The grounds of the resort and are very beautiful and well maintained. This being said I would never recommend or go back there because of the food. I'm not at all a picky eater, and neither is my husband, but their food was so bad that my husband and I were sick for 5 out of our 7 days there. My husband lost 10 pounds that week if that gives you an idea. We lived off of the mini bar food and snacks. We couldn't wait to get home to eat normal food. We heard other couples who were feeling sick as well. I know there are also other couples that stay there and don't get sick from the food. But I wouldn't take the risk.
It's too bad that their food is awful, because the place is really nice.

I traveled to this resort with my husband and 7 other friends. We were all very impressed with Excellence. The staff was there to do anything we needed from the time we arrived until the time we left. The food was great. We loved the buffet for breakfast and lunch. Supper was great except at Oregano. The service was very slow at night, but as long as you are expecting that, it isn't a problem. The shows were great. We especially loved the Michael Jackson show and the circus show. I had read a lot of reviews that talked about how great Carlos was. If you choose to go here, find him as soon as possible. He was great and catered to our every need. He went out of his way and was so thoughtful. Some people wrote about the bugs being bad. We didn't get bit at all, but there were tons of dead flies everywhere. They sprayed bug spray alot and whenever the flies hit the ground or the floor in the room, they died immediately! Guess it was some strong spray. There were also a lot of dead flies in the pool. Overall, we loved our stay and had the time of our lives!

We stayed two nights then had our travel agent get us out of there. We paid for a "Club" Level room w/ an ocean view. We were supposed to have a honeymoon package. We were NOT greeted with champagne. We waited over 1/2 hr fo r the room which did NOT have an ocean view. They were nasty and tried to convince us it was. Finally they offered to change the room for us the next day, so we didn't unpack right away. The club level is bogus - you just get an extra buffet. They told us we had the last room - we found out later many other couples also got "the last room". Its our honeymoon, there was supposed to be roses and a Sade CD :) (We never got the CD P.S. - we really found it funny, but still - where was it...?) An hour after getting to our room we were interupted from "celebrating" by a knock on the door to refill the bar. I have to say the liquor was top shelf, but we didn't need a refill and told them to come back the next day. Didn't they see the do not disturb sign? 15 minutes later the front desk called asking if they could refill the minibar!!! This happened the next night too. So much for privacy... The first night we were eaten alive by mosquitos, including those in the room. The food was lousy and few of the common areas have Air Conditioning. The shows were awful, maybe up to high school production levels. The big show was a michael jackson tribute, but the tape broke and we waited 45 minutes in the hit for the show to come back on. They invited vendor tables at dinner time, so we were harassed both nights - so we didn't even have to go into town to get our arms tugged. (We were supposed to stay a week but left after two nights - I recommend the Paradisus - STRONGLY) We check in the second day to our new room. A light was not working, the ipod/clock radio was broken, the dresser's bottom drawer was busted. We were promised a beach massage for our troubles - we got a whole 15 minute shoulder rub. Because of the bugs at night we tried to stay inside. The TV had a hardcore adult channel, if thats your thing. We felt we would be safer with room service - wrong. The first night they go our order wrong then the food was ice cold - we're talking pizza and fries here. The second night they never showed. 45 minutes after our first call we got a call back asking us if we had ordered room service - they lost our order. So summing up - bad food, bad service, bad accommodations, interruptions, bad entertainment - lots of bugs. STAY AWAY - there are plenty of nicer places. The Paradisus was originally recommended by our travel agent, but we were hooked on the Excellence's 'honeymoon package' and that they didn't allow kids. We rarely saw kids at the Paradisus - none were allowed in the club level.

My Wife and I had gotten married about 6 years ago. Unfortunately, due to financial difficulties we never were able to afford a honeymoon -> until now! To say the least, this was a romantic and relaxing vacation for us.

When we landed, the airport was quiet interesting. I had never seen an “open air” type airport and walking out on the tarmac to get inside the terminal was surprising. The van ride to Excellence was about an hour or so, but not nearly as bad as some folks stated. The roads actually looked freshly paved.

Once we arrived we were greeted with a cool towel and glass of Champaign. Very welcoming! The Grounds were simply immaculate and the wildlife birds were really tame. You could walk as close as 6 ft. to the birds. And feed them too! Our check-in was very quick and our bags were brought up to our room within ½ hour. We were in building 4, on the 3rd floor. We had the vaulted ceiling with a view of the garden. Personally, the view from the balcony was more than enough. We did not feel that paying an additional amount of money to face the pool or beach was worth it. The evening “turn down” service was amazing. It was like art work that you did not want to touch. For those of you who like to “surf” the internet on vacation (like us) will be presently surprised at the connection strength. However, once connected to the wireless network we had to disconnect and reconnect in order to actually get on the net. Not really a big deal, more like an annoyance.

The Food and service were excellent with the exception of the Lobster house. Unfortunately, the lobster was not cooked well and extremely small. However, the waiter service was top notch. Our favorite restaurant was Agave (Mexican) and Spice (Asian). The beach lunches and dinners were also good. Late night eaters, beware. There is only one place open after 11:00 PM which is the one right next to Agave. We liked to refer to it as “drunken food”. But, its something to eat.

The bars are awesome. The bartenders will make your drink as light or strong as you would like. The “coco loco” was my absolute favorite. Would like to give a shout out to JOSE!!! His favorite line “… he’s gay!” or “ … she wants me”. He, of course is just kidding, but very amusing.

During our stay we took some excursions out to Savao Island and beach. Sorry, I may have miss-spelled the island name. Also, took the speed boat and ATV tours. Both were awesome, but be prepared to get very muddy on the QUAD. Not really too expensive depending on what you are used to spending on trips.

Some advice I have is to make sure you put your towels down on the pool or beach side “beds” or chairs. They go quickly. Especially the ones that are covered.

We left tips before we departed. Honestly, carrying around cash to consistently “tip” is not what I wanted to include in my relaxing vacation. Exactly why we picked Excellence.

The beach has one mean undertow. Be careful when you feel the water level at your chest. The water will get deep very quickly. Trust me, I know :-) Also, forget Windsurfing unless you are an expert. I did not even bother taking the risk with high waves.

Horseback riding is worth it. Plus it’s free for the first round.

Enjoy, have a great time. We did!

I thought I did this review last year but can't find it on the site so do another version now. I can't remember all of the names of the restaurants and people by now, but they were all great. We loved this place - our first 5 star all-inclusive. Mostly we've stayed at 4 star all inclusives or rented city apartments-villas. Previously did the north coast of Dominican Rep so this was new to us. It's a different airport fly-in and longer drive to the hotel but the resort itself has everything you need and 7 very good restaurants with perfect variety. The guy at the Fitness Club / brand new and gorgeous / both the guy and the equipment - ha ha! Plenty of tennis courts, table tennis, a nightclub, nice shops, classy spa.

We were there for 12 nights, in a room at the very end building that was good for us since we don't stay up that late anymore. The main building has music most nights and entertainment in a big hall, some of which is better than others.

My husband got there two nights before me, coming from a business conference in Puerto Rico, and our room wasn't available yet so they had to put him up in the bridal corner suite first! He got a taste of that spaciousness and large terrace/deck with jacuzzi - otherwise the jacuzzi is in your room separated by pillars. Ceiling fans or air con, your choice. All rooms have a balcony with view of the ocean just beyond the long pool, which has floating things good to mosey up and down the waterway, nice listening to the waves on the beach. The beach has hammocks and beds / especially great at night to look at the stars. No noisy 'activation' team but one area of the pool did offer water aerobics and volleyball for those who want to, in addition to the beach one. One Swim/up bar. We walked to check out the buildings by the second pool that has a waterfall / also very nice though not near the beach. Gardens gorgeous everywhere, inclusing one bigger botanical one that I enjoyed.

The water in the bay right in front of the hotel property is rather treacherous - I could not stay on my feet even in the shallow parts due to the strong cross currents. The black flag was up all the time. My husband didn't mind it and bodysurfed a lot, plus played volleyball onthe beach. We discovered that walking up or down the bay around the corners took you to calm waters great for swimming but no snorkeling interest. They had horsebackriding along the beaches which looked cool.

I was able to get internet connection free in the main building. I think the Club Rooms also give this but we didn't do that this time. I didn't mind sitting up in the main lounge areas for this.

We recommend this resort hotel and would go back ourselves.

If you're looking for a place to exclusively relax on the beach or by the pool then this is a good place. Having said that, this is not a 4 or 5 star resort by any stretch and there are not that many good activities. The food is really as bad as it's been described in previous reviews. My girlfriend and I spoke with several people who became sick by eating the food, and I became very sick starting the last day of our vacation. Honestly, for the money you spend at this place....you can do better.
