We went all inclusive. We had a fantastic reception. The staff welcomed us with a song and massive smiles. We had a light drink and were made aware of all the facilities. We were amazed by the room size and were very very happy that it was cleaned every day and everything was replenished. The entertainment was great. The animation team that work there made every evening fun. The hotel put on karaoke, local singers came in, alos local musicians played and sang to us. It was all great. The food; you could not say that you didnt find a thing you liked. It was fabulous. The restaurants were magic, as were the staff. They were absolutely brilliant. We will return in a few years.

My girlfriend and I booked a two week holiday to Sirenis in the hope for a relaxing break where we could unwind from our hectic daily lives at home. Whilst in general the hotel was ok, we had one major complaint and a few gripes, which took the edge of what could have been a really great holiday and turned it into one which has put us off returning.

1. The biggest complaint was that 6 days of the 2 weeks was ruined by what seemed like several hundred locals checking into the hotel from Friday afternoon till Sunday afternoon. This turned the resort from a very comfortable and relaxing venue into a noisy and stressful free for all. Whilst us Brits cannot boast the greatest behaviour at times, those of the locals left something to be desired. We watched as pieces of fruit were thrown into the pool and pizza crusts lined the edges along with empty "fast food" style plastic cups that the barmen had to use to deal with the volume of people. Teenagers (and some who were old enough to know better) spent the three days filling the pool with inflatables, diving, pushing others in, splashing and being a general nuisance to other guests in the pool. The pool bars were unapproachable as a result of hoards of locals dominating the area. I had to pull a two year old boy out of the main pool when he began to panic after jumping in and with the "lifeguards" that had been put on duty to deal with all the people were too busy diving in and swimming about themselves to notice. Really need a duty manager "on beat" to ensure pool rules are upheld for the safety and comfort of ALL guests. Did not see any one cleaning up the pool/beach areas until the locals had gone on the Sunday afternoon. Meal times were something else at the weekend, in particular on our second Saturday evening. We arrived at the restaurant at 8 pm to be greeted by masses of people trying to access the buffet. The term "pigs around a trough" sprung to mind and by the time we had queued and been pushed aside on several occassions we made our way back to a "dirty" table in the corner for a peaceful if now cold meal. We left very soon after when my girlfriend and I were unable to hold a conversation two feet away from each other as a result of the noise from the neighbouring table that ensued. It was also noticeable that the service staff including bar people focused their attentions on the locals at the expense of the full paying guests. We felt like second class citizens at times, which is very frustrating when paying so much and traveelling so far.

2. The a la carte restaurants were abismal in terms of service and food quallity. We were not made aware of the 2 bookings per week policy and neither did the guest services guy as he booked us into four in the first week. As a result of this we were then not allowed to book any more for the remaining 10 days. Not fussed about that though as they were so bad. It took 2 hours to serve starters and mains before we gave up on our desserts in the Mediterranean restaurant and walked out. We evacuated the Mexican restaurant with several other parties before starters due to the amount of mosquitoes, which had found their way in to the cold buffet and our drinks within minutes. We visited the steakhouse and my girlfriend ordered the sirloin, which was inedible (even though she has her own teeth!). Many others said the same although I had the tenderloin steak, which was good.

3. Although neither of us got ill during the holiday, I was a little concerned by the wild birds that were flying around the restaurant and stealing food. The main pool bar also did not look clean and there was an unpleasant odour that could be smelt when in the vicinity. Be careful of the chicken from the bbq on the beach. Not convinced that it was cooked through on all occasions! I have seen reviews of several that have experienced stomach upsets and I am not too surprised.

4. Heard stories about the "timeshare" con where premium breakfasts and cash was offered but were lucky enough to avoid capture before the last day when we knew to "just say no".

5. The rooms are very basic. We were in a junior suite and we had to ask for coffee making facilities which were advertised in the brochure. It came but we were never left milk on a daily basis or indeed coffee on a few days! Also spotlights and porch lights were out in the room. These should be checked before each arrival. Just looks sloppy!

6. Finally, we made our dissatisfaction known to the holdiay rep, who told us to go and ask to speak to the Duty Manger. We did these only to be told that the Duty Manger/Hoel Manager was not on duty. V worrying that a reception supervisor is responsible for the entire hotel.

Just returned from a 14 night stay at Sirenis. Stayed on the Cocotal side of the resort. The journey from the airport to Sirenis is long especially after the long flight but the coach transfer was pleasant enough. The food in the hotel is fine, lots of choice for meat eaters and enough choice for vegetarians too - the puddings are yummy although a bit hit and miss some days. Best to go for the buffet early otherwise you get left with the dregs and the flies will have had a field day landing on the left out food if you leave it late to eat!!! Cleanliness and comfort of the room are average, we found a lot of dust in our room but given the sheer size of the resort it's not surprising the chamber maids don't get time to dust regularly. The aircon in our room was dodgy and kept leaking in the bathroom despite reporting the fault to reception 4 times during our stay. Although the hotel maintenance were quick to come and look at the fault, unfortunately it was not resolved during our stay and so the unit had to stay off for most of our stay; however this was not a big issue as the room was cool enough with the ceiling fan alone. The gym in the resort is absolutely terrible - it is full of rusty and dirty machines and the floor is a health hazard as it is old and turned up at the corners making it easy to trip over. We were delayed on our return to the UK so we had to had to hang around the resort reception from the midday checkout for 3 hours where the chairs are not particularly comfortable. There are daily activities in the resort which will probably suit most tastes. We took Spanish lessons and archery almost every day we were there which was brill. We had two a la carte meals while we were there - vegetarian and the mexican; the latter was awful, our table was covered in mosquitoes, the service extremely slow and the food was far too salty and tasted like it was left over from the night before which is a shame as we were really looking forward to eating there; in fact a few couples walked out because the service was so bad. The vegetarian on the other hand was fantastic, very good service and excellent food. We did a couple of excursions during our stay - they were very expensive but good fun and seeing as the resort is so remote it was nice to get away from it on the odd day and see other parts of the island. The shopping in Dom Rep is nothing to write home about if I am completely honest. Most of the shops sell the same stuff and you need to be prepared to haggle, and haggle hard. The sellers will hassle you non stop but as long as you are polite and firm, it shouldn't be too much of a problem. If you want hassle free shopping, the Tropical Treasure shop at the Plaza near the hotel is a good place to go and reasonably priced. The resort has a parade of shops on the approach from the main entrance but only one shop is open; this is a real shame and they are missing a trick having most of the premises vacant. The entertainment during the evening by the animation team is good fun (Will Smith is very funny especially when he is the bingo master - LOL!). One thing that is extremely annoying on the resort is the concierge team (timeshare salespeople) - they will hassle and hassle you until you attend (or at least agree to attend) their VIP breakfast. I had read some of the reviews on here about these timeshare salesmen so I was prepared for them but I could see them hassling a lot of the guests. However they soon left us alone once they had a fresh influx of guests to hassle.....

All in all, we had a lovely time. We went for a relaxing holiday which is what we got so no real complaints apart from the delay at the end of the holiday but there was nothing we could do about that. I normally go to Barbados which is far better than Dom Rep in terms of value for money so I won't be hurrying back to DR as there are other parts of the Caribbean I would like to visit before rushing back to DR.

This has got to be the worst holiday, trip I have ever had the misfortune to take.

Went on an all inclusive holiday through Thomas Cook, thought foolishly that it would be the holiday of a lifetime and for me son to have a wonderful memorable experience that would remain with him for a long time, well he will have memories that's for sure.

Tuesday son came down with stomach upset, throughout the day got progressively worse, runs, vomitting, severe stomach cramps, headache, passing blood, went to see the Dr, put on a drip, IV fluids and antibiotics, ambulance to the hospital, found 4 types of bacteria!

Insurance company scum then got involved, oh he's fine, doesn't need all that, take him out of the hospital back to the hotel he'll be fine. if you stay we won't cover the costs!

Returned to the hotel next day gets even worse, rang scum bag insurance again, oh take him to one of our recognised Dr's, another taxi ride, 1 hour later, this Dr wants 3 grand up front just to look at him! Another call to scumbag insurance company, (9 in total) won't take credit card, wants cash!

Take him out of there and go back to the hotel...yet another call to insurance scumbags, is this child fit enough to fly? We thinks so, he'll be OK but whatever you do, don't mention that he's ill to the airline or they won't let him board! Can you believe this....

So 200+ people at risk on a aircraft because a scumbag insurance company does want to pay for a child to be treated!

Arrived back in England, called the paramedics, emergency admission to hospital, placed in isolation, given IV fluids, antibiotics and injections for pain relief! 3 weeks later, he still on a restricted diet!

That was our holiday

Cause.....food poisoning, birds flying around inside the restaurant!

Oh and this is before we even mention the rooms, facilities and sporting equipment in Thomas Cooks wonderful brochure, which just did not exist!

I have been home from Sirenis now for 3 days and I am still recovering.

I'm going to try and keep this short...so...here we go.

Upon arrival our room and welcome package stuff wasn't ready. All others on our bus over were served and on there way within a matter of minutes. We waited patiently and were given our information after about 20 minutes.
We got to our room, changed and headed out for dinner. The food at this resort was not good at all! I lived off of bread and mini muffins for 7 days. It was not 4 star quality.

After dinner we went back into our room to call it a night and found that our key didn't work. We were in the rooms closest to the beach which meant we were farthest from the front desk. After 3 trips to the front desk they finally sent someone to fix our lock. (over an hour later and 7 laps of the entire resort).

The rooms weren't anything special very basic. However the beds were the most uncomfortable beds i have ever slept on. I actually ended up sleeping on the sofa after the first night...it was more comfortable.

We woke up bright and early to shower and get out in the sun only to find we had no hot water. This lasted 3 days.
Not only was there no hot water but the power went off at random times...the whole week.

we woke to construction every morning and were surprised by being sprayed with pesticide by a worker not paying attention that we were sitting on our porch.

Did i mention our room backed onto a sewer? So with the construction we smelt garbage all week! Not great in 34 degree blistering heat.

on top of the lack of hot water and electricity...the room was "cleaned" every day. by cleaning she made the bed (never once changed the sheets) and replaced the glasses.
I know this because i was so sick from the food i was in the room every morning when the cleaning lady came in. I asked her to changed the beds and she looked at me like she couldn't speak english (even though i saw her speaking english to our neighbours).

on a good note, the beach was beautiful and the weather was perfect.

this resort is old, run down, and not worth the 700 i paid.

please do yourself a favour and go some place else.
