“Fine resort!.... but...”
Reviewed 19 October 2009

We stayed at this resort during a second week of September. I decided to go to PCP because the place looked nice and the reviews were good. My girl friend and I are both in our mid 20 travelling to get some sun, swim in the ocean and just relax.
Arrival: The PCP is approximately 30 min drive from the airport. The reception at the front desk was very friendly, quick and easy. We got greeted with a cocktail and shown to our room within 5 min.
Rooms: The room was everything we asked for: close to the beach, 2nd floor, light and spacious, with two separate beds overlooking the pool and a little bit of the ocean. There was a fruit basket, cigars and a bottle of rum on the table as a welcome thing. The fridge was fully stocked but their policy said to only leave 2 beers per day. We made friends with some workers and got 8 beers delivered to our room whenever we needed!! 
Pool: The pool was very nice however when I booked this resort I was under the impression that there are 2 pools. Hmmm.. Nope, there is only one. The service at the swim up bar was ok. The pool was never overcrowded with plenty of seats around.
Beach: Gorgeous!!!!!! We spent every day chilling by the ocean... The beach is wide, never overcrowded and perfect for long walks. There is a flea market to the left of the resort but it takes about 10 min to get to. Apparently there is a flea market to the right of the resort as well but its way further. There are a lot of people passing by and trying to sell things. There is nothing wrong with buying a souvenir but be careful! You have to bargain! TIP: Do not book any excursions on the beach!!!! They will tell you that they work on the resort but it isn’t true. There are cases when people book tours (overpriced) and end up getting ripped off with no chance of getting their money refunded. So be careful!! Book excursions only with your representative (in the lobby).
Entertainment: To be honest, I was disappointed. Pool activities were lame and the entertainment crew had a hard time getting people to participate. Beach activities were almost nonexistent. Performances in the lobby were boring. One evening there was a “beach party” which consisted of an open buffet, musicians and dancing. That was the most fun. I have been to other places in Caribbean where the entertainment was awesome but unfortunately didn’t experience it in PCP. After 11 p.m. the resort died out. There is a disco place but it was under renovation so we had to go off the resort to local clubs to have some fun. I’m not sure if it has to do with the size of the resort or with the fact that it was a slow season but I thought it could have been much better. We went to a local club called Mongu a couple of times. It was really awesome and I highly recommend it!! You can take a taxi to get there and it’s about 10 min away from the resort.
Food: The food was ok. Breakfast didn’t have a very big variety and it got a little bit boring by the end. The beach restaurant was alright and we always found something we liked. La carte restaurants were really good. Well known fact: no reservation required!! lol. We tried two: Tex-Mex (great!) and Swiss (amazing!!! absolutely a must!!).
Excursions: We did the canopy tour. It was fun and thrilling. If you are thinking of booking it- wear comfortable clothes and preferably crocks (ugly but useful ;)). Running shoes are ok only if it hasn’t rained because you’ll be covered in dirt. Second tour we took was a trip to Saona Island. It is truly spectacular!!! You’ll get to experience: speed boat ride, swimming in the middle of the ocean with star fishes and drinking rum!! On the Island you’ll swim and take pictures of the calm, crystal clear water, have open bar and buffet and head back on catamaran with more drinking, dancing and sun tanning. One of the best tours offered!!!
Overall: PCP had some downfalls that I’m not going to bother mentioning because it’s too much writing lol but I have to agree with some reviews and say that at times the staff are not all that helpful and sometimes are anything but that. However, everybody have different experiences and this review is based on mine. The resort is not big and it was half empty. We spent every day by the beach and didn’t see 1 couple get married. I would not recommend getting married there. It just felt like PCP was missing something.. This resort is for people who are not looking for much action. It’s pretty laid back and relaxing. However if you are looking for a night life, this might not be the resort for you. We had a great time but we had to go outside the PC Princess. Basically it all depends on what you want your vacation to be!!
P.S. If you want to bring back some souvenirs, cigars or jewelry I strongly suggest that you get it at the flea market or on the resort.. The prices at the airport are absolutely insane!! And you can’t bargain there.. For example: simple keychain is AT LEAST $5!!!
Relax, stay safe and enjoy your vacation!!

Spent 2 weeks here with my daughter & neice and had a wonderfull time. It is as quiet or as lively as you want it to be.

All the staff were very friendly & helpfull, the rooms were clean & bright, the pool & beach lovely.

The entertainment team were the best, they looked after us when we went to the casino & nightclub, and they made us laugh all holiday, we now think of them as good friends and we miss them all.

Would recommended this hotel and will be booking again.

just returned from our lovely week. we had booked for tropical princess with thomson and got moved to bavaro, upon reading reviews asked to come here. was no problems, thomsons were supberb!
no complaints at all, just a wee bit too quiet for me in the evenings, found ourselves retiring around 9pm! but there again got up early each morning for our run......
had some rain, mostly during the night and 1 afternoon for an hour, which was very refreshing.
did the half day trip, swim with sharks etc then party boat, bit expensive really, but had a good time.
definately recommend for couples, but if you want more lively, not the place for you.

My husband and I have traveled to many all in-clusives over the past 15 years and can honestly say we enjoyed our stay at the Punta Cana Princess the best. We are in our mid 50's. The food and bars were excellent. The grounds were kept immaculate at all times. The staff constantly went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. We will be going back. Sad to say we had already purchased airline tickets for Costa Rica for Feb. or we would have gone back at that time. However, it WILL be our next planned vacation.

just came back October 10th...had a wonderful time...been to Punta Cana
many times, but this was the first time at this hotel...everything was as
described..check in was fast, room was ready, fruit basket, bottle of rum,
cigars, housecoat, slippers, nightly turn down service, plenty of towels,
and flat screen tv with many stations. Hotel staff were exceptional, happy,
hardworking, and spoke atleast 5 languages fluently. The grounds were
immaculate, the beach was the best, and definitely enough variety of food,
that you would always find something good.
Also a nice feature, no children under 18..this was a first for us, and
definitely not the last...pleasant change.
would definitely recommend this hotel for couples and honeymooners,
it is a quiet resort, with everything you could ask for. we cannot comment
on nightlife, as we never attended..except for a trip to the casino which was
fun.

We read the reviews pretty hardcore because we were taking our honeymoon and wanted it to be perfect. It was!! Everything was like we expected. Beach was beautiful, service was great, and food was good. Anytime you're in an exotic place the food is going to be a little different but it also was very good. All in all, it was relaxing which was exactly what we were looking for. Great place for a honeymoon or any other relaxing vacation

We went to Punta Cana, DR for our Honeymoon. We tried to research the different resorts in the area before we booked. Overall we were very pleased with our stay. We have stayed in several areas in the Carribean, and found the DR a nice spot to visit. Our resort was very nice, and service was very good. The wait staff, bartenders, and house keepers were very accommodating. We enjoyed the pool in the afternoons and the beach during the mornings. The resort was well maintained and seemed to be kept very clean. Housekeeping did a great job of keeping the fridge stocked with beverages and bottled water was always available. We also enjoyed the flexibility of dining at the other sister resorts. Shuttle service to the other resorts and casino was free to guests. As an adults only resort, it was smaller than the "family" resorts that were in our same resort chain. It was very quiet compared to the sister resorts we visited. Although we could visit their resorts, they could not visit ours. It made it a very quiet place. I will also say that the security at the resort was very good. The security staff was very visible, helpful, and polite. We even had security on the beach that made sure no one tried to sell goods to guests on the beach. We understand that this was a big problem at other resorts.

So what could be improved? Well when you go, brush up on your Spanish. The wait staff and most of the workers struggle with English and that makes it difficult to get exactly what you want. We had to REALLY work hard to get them to understand Coke vs. Coke Lite.

Our other improvement would be in regards to excursions. If you are into parasailing...then this is the place for you. You could throw a rock in any direction and I assure you that you could find a guy on the beach who could get you in a parasail sling. Snorkling? Well apparently you can only snorkle in the DR if you agree to a $100 all day booze cruise to a private island, and a power boat ride...and 45 minutes of snorkling with 45-50 people. Apparently you can snorkle, but you couldn't get there from our resort.

We had a "travel advisor" and we were told to only book excursions through him because it was not safe to do it on your own. Well we discovered the advisor only had about 5 or 6 excursions and basically told us that we could only do these 5 or 6.

This aspect of the trip we found to be very different than many of the other islands in the Carribean we have visited. If you are an excursion person, then this may not be the spot for you.

All in all, we had a great honeymoon. We enjoyed the resort and our stay. Would we have enjoyed some more variety in the excursions? Sure, but that did not ruin our good time. We suggest you do your research in order to do all the things you may want to do.
