Owner description: The Indigenous Eyes Ecological Park and Reserve is a private protected area owned and operated by the PUNTACANA Ecological Foundation. Consisting of lowland subtropical forest, the reserve covers 1,500 acres of land dedicated to conservation, scientific research, and recreation. The Ecological Reserve is a forest reserve with twelve freshwater lagoons, five of which visitors can swim in. Historians discovered that the Taíno Indians, the pre-Columbian inhabitants of the island, referred to the lagoons as “eyes” because of their distinctive shape. For this reason, the Ecological Park and Reserve was named “Ojos Indígenas” or “Indigenous Eyes.”The Ecological Park consists of numerous exhibits describing the cultural and natural history of the island. Visitors can visit a petting zoo with many domesticated animals common in the Dominican Republic since colonial times, a sugarcane exhibit, an iguana habitat and many other attractions.

It was beautiful to watch because I did not get into the water. The walk to get to it was too long, but well worth it.

If you stay at the Four Seasons Hotel near the airport they have a complimentary free shuttle that leaves the hotel every 2 hours starting at 10am and picks you back up until 5:20pm. The park is also free if you are staying at the hotel otherwise the park admission is $25RD.
No problem with bugs. Pools are crystal clear. Beach is super clean and the water is warm.
The park had very few visitors and we had the pools and beach to ourselves.
This is a natural environment to be enjoyed by nature lovers without the tourists.

I took the segway tour and it was a blast! Swimming in the lagoon was amazing and the guys that gave the tour (Gerald, Michael, George) were great!

Did a quick swim in the largest pool. Water was clean, clear and cool. You could see fish and turtles in the water. Was worth the walk.

I absolutely enjoyed the walking guided ecological tour.  Christian greeted us and gave us an introduction to the trees on the island.  We proceeded on the trail and he discussed flora, fauna, geology, and the history of the island along the way. All very beautiful and a great learning experience. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone who enjoys nature.
The same basic touristy excursions were offered by every operator in the resort where we were staying, so we turned to the internet to find an alternative. We booked over the internet at our hotel and had the concierge call to confirm the transportation. They picked us up at the hotel at the time indicated and returned us to the resort after the tour. We were on the same bus as a group of the segway tour so we did not get to spend more time at the facility after our tour, we could have stayed all day! Next time we go we are going to arrange for a longer stay.
