I never have the time or desire to write reviews, but this vacation warrants it.
We came to this hotel for a family vacation and it has been fantastic from beginning to end. We are New Yorkers with high standards and have found to this to be a perfect get away. The hotel is elegant, sophisticated and beautiful. The beach is the best.... soft white sand and clear blue water. The pool area is perfect too- kids can play and jump in a million times and adults can still enjoy a swim. There are plenty of comfortable lounge chairs and giant umbrellas.

The staff here is incredibly nice and they go out of their way to meet your every need. From the moment we arrived, they have been accommodating and friendly. Everyone wears a smile and is eager to please.

Concierge arranged for us to go to some great restaurants- La Yola is a must. Great food and a gorgeous setting. The hotel was so kind to provide transportation here and everywhere else we wanted to go nearby.

For those that want activities they are many for kids and adults- or just enjoying the perfect breeze and the amazing service of food and drinks is always an option.

We are SPG members who have been to several hotels in the Caribbean and this one is a must to visit. Fair prices for food- perfect weather- beautiful rooms with great views. We are already wanting to return.

We checked in on opening day. We had plenty of hot water and internet service everywhere around this intimate and gorgeous property. Room and location was great. The beach is gorgeous.YES, dinner did take a long time, but they were accommodating and do need a couple of weeks to get it together, but the food was delicious. We ate at their other beautiful restaurants like La Yola,Playa Blanca, etc and the service and food was perfect. We did use the concierge without problems, but it was the Tour company(nothing to do with the hotel) that screwed up an excursion. We have already rebooked for February and we are certain the kinks will be ironed out. The staff could NOT have been better and I already miss them and Franklin who made us the best Iced Coffees every day!
I am only lowering my rating at the restaurant because of the length of wait for the food, NOT the quality because it was delicious tasting.
I also worked with Punta Cana Parties and Belky the inhouse party organizer for a gorgeous and perfect private birthday party for my sister.

First the good. The location is incredible, right on the water, beautiful pool, extremely friendly staff, very comfortable beds, everything is brand new, well maintained beach and each room has a view of the ocean and your own balcony. Now for the not so good. The service is awful! Again, the staff couldn't be any friendlier and pleasant but they just could not get things right. Plan for a 30 minute check in and check out and meals to take about an hour to get your entree, even breakfast (unless you get the buffet which is about the only way I could tolerate eating breakfast there). We got to the point that we asked for our check before we were served our meal so we wouldn't have to wait an extra 15 minutes after we were done eating. In my opinion the service was poor because the staff wasn't used to the computer systems, the language barrier (I speak very little Spanish) and I think there needs to be more managers. I never saw a manager behind the front desk or in the restaurants, two areas that need major service improvements. I think this hotel has major potential, but it needs some major help on the service side of things.

I did see someone post about the internet and I can say, I did get a good internet connection in my room, by the pool, and at the beach. After you login to the wifi connection you then have to go to your browser and agree to the Westin user agreement before it would allow you on the network.

Dear TBone393:

Thank you for taking the time to review our hotel.

We are happy that you liked our beautiful beach, our great staff and the overall structure and condition of the hotel.

We apologize for the bad impression you had because of the slow service, there is no question that we went thru some opening issues, but are happy to tell you that these have been mostly corrected as you can see from the recent reviews of the hotel.

We had taken note about your comment about more management presence in the areas and we made sure that the new staff has had more management support.

I hope that you decide to come back to The Westin Puntacana Resort & Club and when you do, once you have reserved, please send me an email at aabreu@puntacana.com so that I can personally look after your reservation and stay.

Have a great day!

Well, my pet peeve resurfaces here again with no internet service in the room. How am I writing this review? From the lobby of the hotel, where you have to run with your commuter if you want to check your email or anything else on the computer. I am actually looking at another review where someone said to stay away from this hotel. Well, you should stay away. Westin has got some nerve opening a hotel this big and under the "Westin" name with no internet service working in the hotel rooms. Pretty sad for what is a nice hotel, but this is 2013 and internet service is as basic as a running toilet. Try somewhere else until reviews on here get better.

Room Tip: How to choose a good room? Try a different hotel, unless you don't plan on using internet.

Dear Silver2907:

Thank you for taking the time to review the new Westin Puntacana Resort & Club! Unfortunately, we had Internet issues during our opening days of the hotel. These have since been corrected as you can see from the marvelous reviews we have been getting in the last few weeks.

First I waould like to say how polite the staff has been for our entire stay, including the general manager. We got there when it first opened (Dec. 20th) and somethings were not ready yet, like hot water on the first day but that problem was quickly solved the next day.
Not speaking Spanish is a drag but they all try to help. No bath tub, no door sperating the bathroom and the room. On the website it said it had DVD - not so. Microwave is $10 per day. Not a lot of choice for food but price was decent for th area...
I loved the cigar bar and they ba rtenders were amazing.
Kudos to the young lady who was the supervisor at the resaurant, I am sorry I forgot her name she was there the entire week and was very helpful

We apologize from some of the issues that you went thru in our opening days. As you can see from all the reviews we have gotten in the last few weeks we have improved in these areas dramatically. The bathroom doors you mention start to be installed next week.

We are happy that overall you enjoyed the hotel and Puntacana Resort & Club. We are especially happy that among other things, you liked the attitude of our staff and also that you liked the Cigar Bar which we are getting great comments about.

We hope that you will give our hotel another try one of these days!

Just opened up on 12-19-13, we were there for a week and they have done an amazing job. All rooms face the ocean and have some type of partial ocean view, well appointed with large bathrooms (no tubs). Ask to get on the side that is numbered 00-17 as you will have shade in the afternoon on your balcony. Food is very fairly priced for the Caribbean, $8 for two eggs, bacon and toast, pina colada’s are $8. Free (we gave drivers $3-4 per trip) shuttle service to Tortuga Bay, La Jolla restaurant (don’t miss this for dinner), spa, village to shop and Playa Blanca beach club. We felt very safe with lots of security walking around. Staff was plentiful and tried very hard to please….they haven’t gotten the hang of the computer system yet but they will. Download the English to Spanish application on your phone, it will help with words like “poached eggs and olives” for martinis. Beach is immaculate and I think the best walkable beach in the Caribbean with soft sand and very flat. Acentos Bistro in the village is the best food for dinner anywhere within 15 miles. Corales Golf some of the best in the Caribbean. Get here quick while the prices are reasonable.

Room Tip: get rooms #00-17 for shady afternoon balcony. 4th floor is highest floor and for SPG members.

this hotel just opened up on December and it simply is NOT ready for guests.

lets start from the beginning. arrival at the airport transfers arranged and reconfirmed by email

NO representative from the hotel at the airport NO record of any airport transportation arranged despite the emails.

the hotel is brand new yet check in takes over 30 minutes with NO line and No wait just plain inexperience.

we booked two rooms adjoining because we have children instead we are giving rooms near each other and the wrong bed type (children's room is supposed to have two beds). This also discussed with the hotel in prior emails.

The reason we are told is that many of the rooms are simply NOT ready for guests.

My disappointment was NOT just that we cant have the rooms we booked but they didn't even tell us. You go the room and find out that you have two rooms not connecting with the wrong bed type.

I am a starwood platinum member NONE of the benefits were offered. They didn't know what I am talking about.

While waiting for the check in we think ok lets work with the concierge on different dining options, activities during the holiday season. alas, NO concierge yes at a westin resort NO concierge. It was explained she is out sick.

While one day this resort might be accommodating, today it is simply NOT ready for guests.

Room Tip: be prepared for arrival and check in problems

We are sorry you did not have a great experience in our opening days. As you can see from the reviews in recent weeks, most, if not all of these situations have been corrected. I believe we have been in contact thru the Starwood offices.
