We loved the fact that this is an adults only resort. Beautiful, brand-new, immaculate cleanliness, and friendly staff. We enjoyed sampling all the restaurants and we experienced no wait time at any. One restaurant (Asian) requires reservations and we went to that one twice. Food choices seemed endless. We really liked the selections offered at the buffets. Our stay was from 1/26/14 - 2/2/14, and the weather was perfect. Sunny, breezy, balmy, 85 degrees during the day. Staff worked so hard to please, and yes, there was a bit of a language barrier, especially when ordering drinks. But that was a minor issue, and their friendliness overrides everything. Pools were splendid and perfectly clean with plenty of lounge chairs, floats, and towels. Our room was well-serviced and suited our needs just fine. All in all, we got what we came for, and that was a relaxing 7 days away from winter in a beautiful locale. I would definitely recommend this resort. We did the Apple "6 square deal" package and found out where our destination was to be at the airport. We considered ourselves very lucky after we arrived!

Our group of 3 couples stayed January 19-24th. Our stay was amazing from start to finish. I've stayed in approx 18 all-inclusives in the Carribean and Mexico and my husband and I travel quite a bit in the states (he's a Platinum at Marriott). The staff were so nice, everyone trying to go out of their way to make our stay comfortable.

The beds were so comfortable, room amazing (it looks exactly like all the pics) huge pools, and TONS of chairs and floaties. We would start the day with yoga on the beach: paddle boarding, kayaking, walking the beach (the beach is amazing and the German lady is fantastic!) Lunch in the open air restaurant, float and listen to music at the swim up bar, then move the party to the upper pool at 4pm for the fun stuff. We tried every restaurant and were always able to find things that we liked. Some friends stuck to what they knew, a couple of us enjoyed the lox, snapper, mussels, sushi, and many island foods. It was clear from the grounds crew, our housekeeping (they were AMAZING!) and the staff that all were trying their best to have fun with us (Alexandra, Olimey, Pedro, all the bartenders, all wait staff in the restaurants!). We went to some shows (the cirque is the best I've ever seen at any resort hands down), and the house band rocked! We danced one night in the disco, but no matter where we went, we were greeted with smiles and warmth.

We would highly recommend this resort for people who are accustomed to nice things, but not too stuffy and want to have a great time. The resort had so many things going on at once, we didn't do it all but I can't imagine that you couldn't find fantastic things to do no matter what mood you were in. I've read many reviews that point to a new place, I assure you those things have been taken care of by an excellent staff and management that are watching over their staff. Don't worry a bit, you will have an amazing time!

The only thing to address is slow check-in, but that is pretty standard for any all-inclusive, it seems to take forever. Check-out was a breeze. The bartenders were so busy, they are working so hard that we are hoping they get larger bars to do their thing as they are working their butts off in smaller spaces, serving an amazing amount of people. I've read comments about slow service, less than enticing menu options, etc - if you want things to run like where you are from, stay there. If you are happy to be on island time, learn some local customs and realize that the staff are using their second language (smarter than most!) you will have the time of your life! Enjoy the Dominican, we plan to be back and can only hope we can come back to Breathless! Would love to see this resort in more Carribean hotspots - we'd go!! Thank you, Breathless for a Magnifico vacation with my hubby and friends - we made memories for a lifetime! It was a perfect blend of relaxing and partying!

Room Tip: We had a pool room by the main buildings on the 3rd floor-loved it! quiet and dark

I do not know what people are talking about who are complaining about Breathless. This was our sixth time to Punta Cana and it was one of the best. While it is true that the staff does not know English, they tried more at Breathless to speak English than any other resort we had been to in the DR. We never had to wait for any of the restaurants as we tried to be at them during the first half hour they were open in the evening.

I literally measured our room and including the bathroom, it was 40 by 14 which is fine when you spend most of your time outside. The bed was comfortable and the couch and chair were both fine. The refridgerator was always stocked full and the water in the bathroom was incredibley hot.
Our room, 2318 had a great view of the beach and pool area which was very appreciated.
The beach was wonderful and there were far more chairs available at Breathless than any other resort we have been to ever! In fact, we sometimes would get to the beach at 10:30 and still would not have any trouble finding a chair. Having stayed at the nearby Dreams, it was fun to walk the beach past Dreams in our daily walks. The little group of shops just outside Breathless was very nice to visit and bargain for prices.

I can not say enough wonderful things about Breathless; we will probably go there next year. For those who love to complain, keep writing the negatives as it tells us more about your personality than about the resort! For those who really want a tremendous time at a resort with very helpful staff, good food, excellent accommodations, and a wonderful beach, Breathless is the place for you!

My husband and I stayed at the Breathless resort in Punta Cana with my parents January 18-29 and had a wonderful stay.

We have stayed at several other AMR resorts including: Dreams in Cabo, Secrets Silversands, Secrets St. James and the Now in Puerto Vallarta so this review is comparing our stays at those resorts to our recent stay at the Breathless resort. Also, I realize the resort is new and they are working very hard to make improvements so they can be one of the top resorts in the area so I am also providing some constructive feedback for the hotel to use to improve the resort.

Beach
This hotel is situated on a very private area of Punta Cana on a spectacular beach. The sand is clean, feels lovely on the feet and the water is clear and some of the most beautiful shades of blue. There were always lots of beach chairs to choose from (even thought the hotel was at 75% occupancy) as well as lots of space and shade if you wanted it. The water was warm and we swam in the ocean every day.

Pools
The resort has 2 very large pools - one was more of the party pool while the other had different activities like basketball and volley ball. Again, there was never a lack of chairs if you wanted to spend your day at the pool there was great access to pool bars at both pools. If you wanted to be at a quiet pool you could and if you wanted to participate in the afternoon pool parties you could do that at the other pool. The only negative is the pools aren’t heated so they feel a bit chilly at first, but on the hot days they are a welcome cool down.

Rooms
We upgraded to a swim up room which was a lot of fun. We enjoyed having our own lounge chairs and access to the lazy river pool in front of our room. I think this resort has some of the best swim up rooms I’ve seen, so if you are thinking about upgrading, it’s worth it. The rooms inside have very comfortable beds, a beautiful shower and they all have outdoor jacuzzi tubs on the decks. My only complaint about the rooms is the decor compared to the other resorts we’ve stayed at was a bit lacking. It didn’t seem to have the same luxury feel as the other resorts have. Also, in some ways, it felt like some of the finishings were a bit rushed and not as much care was put into them.

Maid Service
We were disappointed with the maid service. Our rooms were cleaned every day, but they weren’t always stocked properly. We were only given one soap initially and had to track down a maid one day to get another one so we could have one in the bathroom and shower. Our face clothes were rarely replenished. We also didn’t have all the soaps/lotions and so on that I know they typically have in the rooms. Also, a lot of times our room wasn’t cleaned until 4:30 in the afternoon. However, on a positive note, we did get evening turn down service very consistently (more than the other resorts we’ve stayed at) and we really enjoyed that.

Spa
We’ve visited the spas at all the other resorts and always have a massage. The massage we had was by far the best of all of them. However, the hydro therapy circuit and general feel of the spa wasn’t as nice.

Restaurants
We had mixed feelings about the quality of the food at the resort. Again, compared to our other stays, it wasn’t up to par. The resort only offers a buffet breakfast and lunch - there is no a la carte option for those meals but there is for dinner. We were most disappointed with the dinner options at the a la carte restaurants. I eat vegetarian but can’t have dairy so most of my options at the restaurants were fairly limited. If I could make a suggestion, it would be to offer more vegetarian options without diary as almost everything had cheese or soups had cream in them. The portion sizes at these restaurants were also quite small and when we did eat there, we ended up going to the buffet for a bit more to eat. We were also really confused by the asian restaurant. On-line it looks like there is a sushi menu but when we asked for it they said it was just the 4 different pieces of sushi they brought out when you arrived. I was able to request a veggie sushi roll be made for me, but it was a really big deal and usually the other resorts have always had a sushi menu with at least 1 or two veggie sushi options. Also, you couldn’t just get a basic stir fry at the restaurant. So my advice for the asian restaurant would be to add a sushi menu and add stir fry to the menu too. We also ate at the French restaurant and the two people who had lamb and duck enjoyed their meal but I had the ratatouille and it was not good. We didn’t end up trying the other a la carte restaurants as the options for food were even more limited.

As far as the buffet goes, it was one of the best buffets compared to all the other resorts we’ve stayed at. The presentation was beautiful and the quality of the food was very high end. They were always bringing out fresh options and there was a lot more options for vegetarians as well.

Breakfast at the buffet was outstanding and probably the best compared to any of the other resorts. There was a make your own smoothie bar, omelet/egg station, waffles and pancakes. The pancakes were outstanding. There was lots of fresh fruit and even veggies and other local breakfast items. Anything you could want for breakfast was there. We were also fortunate as one of our favourite staff members Alejandro Cedeno asked the chef to make us oatmeal without milk (the oatmeal in the buffet is cooked with milk) and they personally served it to us every morning. This oatmeal was some of the best oatmeal we have ever had! Compliments to Gregorio, the chef, who made it with love and care every morning. Thank you! This made our trip extra special.

Lunch buffet was smaller but always had a nice selection of food. It did get a bit lacking towards the end of the trip as it was smaller than the dinner buffet. Dinner buffet was very good and had some of the greatest desserts. It was always changing every day. Our favourite item for lunch and dinner was rice and beans - they always had a different daily cooked bean and they were amazing!

Staff
Our experience with the staff at the resort was very positive. They all were trying very hard, even if there was a language barrier. They were some of the happiest, friendliest people we’ve met at any of the hotels and we actually formed a really genuine friendship with some including Alejandro Cedeno. This man made us feel welcome every day we entered the buffet and made us feel like family. He always ensured we had a nice table, were waited on and even had our favourite oatmeal every morning. He went above and beyond to make our stay special and I know other staff members would be happy to do the same if you just ask and get to know them.

Overall, we did really enjoy our time at the Breathless resort. Compared to our other stays, it isn’t the at the 5 star mark yet but it has the potential to be really great and they are working hard to get it there.

Room Tip: Swim up rooms are really wonderful. Ones that face the pool will be nosier than the ones on the oth...

A group of 10 adults (5 couples) stayed at the resort from 1/19-1/22. We traveled to Puerto Vallarta together last year and stayed at the Secrets. We were impressed there and wanted to stay within the AMresort family. We traveled through the unlimited vacation club, so we were all upgraded to the Xhale club with a pool view. Our rooms were fabulous with comfortable beds and good size bathrooms. Emmanice was our butler, and although we didn't use him much, the few things we did request he followed through with. We liked that our rooms were closer to the ocean and away from the night entertainment. We did not mind having to walk a little further to get to the front of the resort. Maria was our housekeeper and did a fabulous job. For my birthday she even put up balloons and confetti and make it really cute! (Thanks Maria). The only complaint about the room was the inconsistent restocking of the mini-fridge. We didn't use it much (because we just went to the lounge to drink) but it look a couple days before we had some of the drinks replaced. Also, you can definitely hear the hallway noise in your bedroom. There is probably very little that the resort can do about this (possibly a design flaw). It can be loud, and wake you up.

The food was good. We loved the hibachi place. The French restaurant also had some great food. Not every place advertised was open and by the end of the trip we felt like we were out of restaurant options. Kibbeh was never open our entire trip even though it was supposed to be available for late night snacks. The buffets are great with a lot of options and a lot of "cook it in front of you" options. We had no complaints there. We also liked that one of the buffets re-opened in the evening for a midnight snack.

The drinks were great. We're not super picky people. We noticed that the Xhale lounge had more top-shelf options and their drinks usually tasted better. But we had plenty of drinks from the swim-up bars and were happy. Try the Dirty Monkey!

All of the staff are super friendly and even with a language barrier (sometimes) they really try their best to make you happy. We never ran into an unhappy staff member. There was a "manager" of the Strip Buffet that really went above and beyond to help us out on our last day. We needed to eat lunch before heading to the airport but no restaurants were officially open yet. Instead, he ordered us a couple pizzas and brought them out, pool-side just for us. I can't remember his name, but it's examples like this that show the Breathless staff really going above and beyond.

The Eteam was a lot of fun and you can tell the resort tries to come up with fun things to do in the evening. The Variety show was great to watch and we enjoyed dancing on the music video night. We are bummed we missed the circus show because we've heard how great that is. Moises, Mickey Mouse, and Leo were a blast to hang out with... and really work hard to keep guests busy!

Overall the trip was great and the resort is really a lot of fun. I understand if people don't think it's a 5-star resort, but it's not a horrible resort at all. There are glitches, but nothing that I haven't seen at other all-inclusives. I was really worried before going because of the reviews but am so so glad we didn't switch resorts. We got a fantastic price on this trip because we booked 6 months out, so I don't know if it'd be worth paying full-price. Either way, if the opportunity presented itself, I would come back in a heartbeat.

My husband & I just returned from Breathless - overall it was a great trip.
PROS: Good sized clean room, swim up pool was an awesome option. No bugs. Service, with a couple of exceptions, was exemplary. Free WI-FI, could be spotty, but it was free. Food was not great but good, and I never expect great on any vacation that includes food.
CONS: The casino heads the list. 18 slot machines, at least 3 broken. Returns tokens (yuk!) not tickets. Blackjack table was boring (and yes, we won), because the penetration of the 6 deck shoe was 50%, so lots of reshuffling. Plus, I split aces and they treated it like a double down - one card only for each ace. The last day of vacation, we couldn't get our minibar serviced after over 6 calls, walked to concierge desk, and then it was refilled, but, the normal way to refill, pop, 4 beers, & 2 waters. We had tipped each time the mini-bar was refilled because we wanted only water & beer. Some issues with language, but we were the visitors to a foreign country. However, please note, when offered a coco flan, it is not cocoa, the Spanish word for coconut is coco. I might have liked the desert if I hadn't had visions of decadent chocolate in my mind.
OVERALL: Except for the casino - any complaints we had really were 1st world problems.
