“Spectacular, luxurious, exclusive, peaceful, with an amazing beach”

I loved my stay at Alsol del Mar in Capcana, we went there with my family for a week, I will definitely come back. I loved the place, its so charming, amazing, peaceful, luxurious, beautiful amenities, pools, the beach is awesome, so peaceful , relaxing to chill, the perfect place to relax and really rest! Its very exclusive, and I loved that it was silent and a very calm and peaceful place. If you are really looking for the perfect spot in the caribbean with a very private and first class spot with a private beach and peaceful place, this is the place! We loved the place and every detail: the personnel is spectacular, specially Karen from the FRont Desk, she is very nice, caring, and always worried about every detail. Everything was perfect. We also liked the service of Angel, he was very nice and cool, and also in the Pool Bar: Edwin (Cascarita) really nice!! and also the housekeepers were really nice and very gentle. Saskia the manager , a very gentle and charming person!
I liked a lot the details this hotel have:
- In the fridge they receive you with waters, Sodas and also Presidente Beer (the dominican high quality beer brand) and its a complement, they also welcome you with champagne at the entrance, they are really neat and have a lot of delicate and spectacular details.
We also loved the luxury suite the view was perfect, just oceanfront with the sound of the sea, the sunsets just right there in front of the caribbean, perfect place. The beach is amazing!! Loved this place!! We will definitely come back.

Room Tip: Try to get your room in front of the beach

The hotel is all new and beautiful. It was on the beach, gorgeous pool, and clean rooms. Some of the rooms had the hot water reversed, the cold was hot and hot was cold. Also no wifi. As you would at any hotel, keep all major valuables in the safe. We are suspicious that clothes were stolen from our group. Other than that suspicion, the hotel was impeccable and beautiful. The people who worked at the front desk were extremely helpful and sweet.

We just returned from a 5 day stay at Alsol Del Mar and would be happy to return once they bring the resort buildings, food and activities up to its billing of a 4/5 star resort (or even a 3 star). It is a short 10 minute drive from the airport with a wonderfully warm welcome with champagne from the concierge. We were given a two bedroom with a kitchen (with out pots, pans, plates or silverware), a washer & dryer (dryer did not dry), living area with dining room, 21/2 baths, and a large outside patio. This was more than we expected since we had booked two separate bedrooms. Upon unpacking we put our valuables in the safe only to find out that it didn't work. I used the phone to call the front desk to ask about the safe but the call didn't go through because there was no cord to the phone. Not a big deal since we really weren't going to be calling anyone. However it was bothersome that we reported the non-working safe and phone everyday and each day we were told that someone was on their way to fix both of them that day. Carrying around your passport and all of your cash & credit cards isn't a comfortable way to spend your time. The air conditioning in the room, as well as the hot water heater, worked on and off but we didn't bother to tell them since we didn't think they would get fixed.
The food at the one restaurant that they have open in the hotel claims to be three different ones. They can claim that because they serve different menus on certain days and in the morning. The food is very marginal in the restaurant but the staff was always friendly. The food at the pool however was very good. The steak strips, the mahi mahi ceviche and the chicken wrap were always good as well as the drinks!
The location on the beach, the infinity pool and the three hot tubs help make the resort a real stand out. It would have been nice if there had been some snorkel masks and fins available to use. The staff (front desk, wait and bartenders) were always friendly, happy and always accommodating (even though the front desk never got the safe or phone working).
An important note is that The Alsol Del Mar has a sister property, The Sanctuary, which you can walk to in 5 minutes along the beach or take a $2 cab. You have all the same privileges at the Sanctuary regarding all inclusive which was the biggest benefit. The food was wonderful at 3 of the 4 restaurants that we ate at - The Blue Marlin, The Wok and The Steak House. The pool and beach there are also very lovely.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that has been updated with everything and facing the ocean.

It is difficult at this point to fin much information online regarding Alsol Del Mar. Especially accurate info. So hopefully this lengthy review will be helpful to those considering a visit.

Pros:
-Very large rooms available at a competitive rate. Our 2-bedroom was very large inside and out with a great patio space and views of the pool and ocean.
-Upscale architecture and beautifully landscaped. The stonework and building design are impressive. Many people were working to maintain the beach and landscape during our weeklong stay. The loungers and beds on the beach and by the pool were very comfortable and upscale, with plenty to go around. No need to get up early and stake out a place by the pool.
-Very good food, with meals cooked to order. Food quality was better than buffets at the larger resorts or dinners we've had aboard cruise ships where they are feeding the masses. Breakfast buffet was sparse but fairly tasty, and the poolside grill was consistently good.
-Huge beautiful pool and pretty beach. While all beaches in Dominican Republic are apparently open to the public, there were no vendors or crowds on this beach. Waves were small due to the barriers that are built offshore. Water is cloudy and shallow but refreshing.
-Some staff were very eager to please and delivered excellent service. Housekeeping came daily and cleaned the room more thoroughly than I've ever seen, mopping and spending nearly an hour on our unit alone. I was brought a pound of coffee by housekeeping. For pool, beach and restaurant service, Geraldino was the best. He worked hard, long hours, and never stopped smiling. He definitely is the best of all the employees we met at Alsol Del Mar.

Cons:
-Untruthful advertising. Alsol Del Mar's website is not truthful regarding several of the amenities. See details below.
-Our room (1102-A) was not ready to be inhabited. We must have been the first to stay in it. The walls were all white and unpainted and it had that new construction (dusty) smell. The two TVs in the bedrooms were not connected and had no cable cords (this wasn't corrected until day 3!). No TV in the living room, which was a huge room with virtually no use. Dryer didn't work (heating element out) and could not be repaired. The manager offered to have someone pick up our wet laundry to dry elsewhere but no one came. Multiple patio door locks were broken or missing. Freezer leaked all week creating a perpetual puddle. No patio lights would come on until I worked on them a bit. The safe didn't work and no one ever showed up to fix it. You should avoid this room and opt for one of the rooms that has been inhabited for longer. Better yet, rent from a private owner versus renting from Alsol. The privately owned units were beautiful.
-The private plunge pool on the patio was nice the first half of the week but turned green towards the end of our stay. There was no cleaning or maintenance of it during the week. Jacuzzis are unheated--don't expect any "hot tubs."
-Dinner can take a long time. The restaurant needs a manager experienced in food service. The food quality is good, but servers (other than Geraldino) were generally confused and disorganized. This led to some extraordinarily long waits and awkward situations.
-A general reluctance or inability to address issues. After waiting a couple days for 2 cable cords, no one showing up to fix the safe, dryer, or the obvious puddle created by our freezer, I just stopped asking for anything to be done. For example, I didn't report the green pool because it was obviously green and I was made to feel like I was being too picky asking for the other things to be fixed. Given the lack of attention these things were given, I just quit asking for things to be fixed and tried to focus on enjoying the beach and beauty of the setting. I didn't want to be mad or disappointed by the lack of concern, so I tried to ignore the problems and just enjoy my vacation.

Luckily, I researched Alsol Del Mar the best I could by speaking with a previous guest and knew ahead of time that their website is misleading at best (and downright untruthful at worst.) Following is a list of amenities they claim to have and what you should actually expect them:
1) White sand beach with shaded areas and sun loungers: YES
2) Controlled access entry: YES (the Cap Cana area is gated)
3) Infinity pool overflowing the Jacuzzis: YES (all unheated)
4) Tennis and basketball courts: NO (blatantly false)
5) Fitness center with a full range of cutting-edge equipment: NO (also a blatant falsehood)
6) Library: NO, not on-site
7) Spa and Aesthetic Services: NO
8) Salon: NO
9) Conference room: MAYBE, but never saw it
10) A mini-market exclusively for residents: NO, saw no store or gift shop on-site
11) Butler Service: NO. There is wait staff, but "butler" is a bit of a stretch. LOL.
12) Gourmet Cuisine in your suite: POSSIBLY. It was never offered, but I suppose they would do it with enough advance notice. Don't expect "room service" speed.
13) Aquatic Activities: NO. Unless you count swimming. The picture on the website implies kayaking. Nothing like that is available.
14) Three Restaurants: NO. One restaurant was available, where we had both breakfast and dinner. Very pretty inside and a great patio for outside seating, but not three as advertised. The poolside grill and bar was where we had lunch, so I guess you could stretch it and say there are 1.5 restaurants.

The bottom line is that we enjoyed Alsol Del Mar, but it would have been better if it was what they claim to be. It would be best if they simply claimed to be what they are. They have exaggerated the resort amenities when it really isn't necessary. Alsol Del Mar is lovely as it is, though nowhere near a 5-star resort. If they simply advertised what they really offer, many people would be happy to stay here and not be surprised when the property isn't as advertised. Perhaps some of the amenities they claim to have are available at the other properties managed by Alsol (The Sanctuary and Alsol Luxury Village). But these amenities are not on-site at Alsol Del Mar, and we were never provided with the option of using the amenities at the other properties. It is my understanding that some guests were given this option when they requested it, but it's definitely not encouraged. If that is your intention, just know that the other properties are not "nextdoor" and Sanctuary is planning to close soon for a major remodeling apparently.

Overall, a nice stay. But shame on whomever has decided to promote amenities that simply so not exist. Will we go back? Probably not, but if we do we will know better what to expect (or what NOT to expect). I am interested to see how and if management replies to this review. If the response does not include assurance that their website's misleading claims have been corrected, I will definitely stay elsewhere in the future. I value honesty.

We stayed here in December with my family. Although they hadn't had our room ready at the arrival, they were very accommodating. Overall it needs to be up and fully operational to be most comfortable. I would highly recommend it, beautiful beach and the property. Great for a family!

I had to resort accommodation at Alsol Del Mar in Punta Cana. From the airport we had problems . We rented shuttle with the operator Viator. The driver took us to a totally wrong destination , Punta Cana city opposite . We arrived at the wrong resort , then the reception of the resort that they called another driver. Neither the second driver did not know where to take us . He tried various other relevant sites , asking left and right where Alsol Del Mar resort could be. This resort does not have any indicator information on the highway or on road or even a Logo company on the frontispiece . I spent nearly 3 hours trying to find the resort where we would be staying .
I got a aprtament modern and very clean and well equipped .
When we wanted to eat dinner we had the second disappointment . The waiter us stretched a menu list on a sheet of paper crumpled list with very few options. I received the ordered dishes in an hour and a half. Food portions were very small and poor quality food . Mention that the ticket was all- inclusive and was not cheap at all. Being familiar with locations in Mexico where I was in previous years, all with the all- inclusive, this location was a big disappointment . Breakfast was meager and of poor quality . A family with children accustomed to consume milk and cereal morning meal, you will not find it. At this location you can not enjoy buffet lunch and the dinner. They do not have a spa or a fitness center.

We spent 5 nights at Alsol Del Mar, and it was the best vacation experience I've ever had. Super nice and helpful staff, 40 new rooms with fantastic view, unlimited delicious food and drinks, beautiful beach and infinite pool... Can't describe how much I love this hotel. For the price we paid for, it was twice or triple of our expectation. I certainly will choose Alsol Del Mar again and would recommend it to my friends!
One more thing, because this resort is fairly new, it only has 2 restaurants opened so far. They are both good, but if you want more choices, you can ask the concierge to give day passes to their sister hotel - Sanctuary, which is 10 mins walk from the beach/5 mins by car. You will have full access to the facilities and restaurants there with the passes:)

Room Tip: Try get a room on third floor to catch the beautiful view!
