This was our second trip to Tortuga and were again extremely happy with our stay.We stayed in November and totally forgot we hadnt reviewed- thats what a 10 month old does to u! I'm not going to duplicate others with the airport, etc-its all good. Yes its a bit pricey, but it is by far and away the best resort in we've been to and are planning to return. So heres the skinny. Food- Bamboo(pool side bar/ restaurant) . They did a Thanksgiving dinner buffet that was good. Do yourself a favor and order breakfast(complimentary) to the room and enjoy on the balcony($10 surcharge). We did this every morning-especially with a little baby it was perfect.LaYola @marina is set over the water and was good .I really liked the tuna steak for dinner-fresh, served black and blue. Go one nite via free shuttle(10 min) into town by airport to Mama Luisa for an inexpensive itallian dinner(either speak spanish or get help from another table as the waitstaff speaks almost no english)-Baskin Robbins directly across for a good sugar fix!Activities- beach is very nice and when the staff see u setting up they come over and get a drink order from u-this was hit and miss-some days right there other days it took awhile.Although the resort was 90% booked u dont have to run down first thing in the morning and save some chairs to have a spot on the beach- always available.I kiteboard and was really happy with the setup at playa blanca(5 min free resort taxi ride)-next to club med. Its $129/hr for instruction and gear or $80 to rent the gear/day.They have a boat if u get too far downwind and will keep an eye on you. At playa blanca there is a large shallow coral reef just offshore so bring booties!Go to kiteclub.com for all info. Diving is located at the resort next to tortuga bay-5 minutes away via your own colf cart. Diving was great. I did do a checkout dive in their pool because its been a few years and i have to say that pool is in bad shape-that whole resort needs to be updated.Golf- really enjoyed this course. Be careful which course u set up a tee time for. I just called front desk and asked for a tee time and they made the reservation- one course is abt $120/round the other is $300+! At the pro desk we quickly made the change and they got us right out. A caddy ($25) is required and club rental was abt $45- and bring balls. At $18/ 3pack i wished i threw some in my luggage. This course winds its way around the back of the resort and has a hole along water that is really beautiful.Spa- Six Senses Spa (this is located down by golf proshop) My wife is a spa hound wherever we go and here is no different. Lots of different treatments avail/ about average price for this level. Plan to spend some time after treatment by pool just outside spa. This pool is nicer than Tortugas pool with open views to beach/ocean and they also have a spot for casual lunch right there. This is all 5 minutes away with your golf cart. For a really special nite have your villa mgr setup a private dinner on the beach. I suprised my wife with this and got a babysitter (who was wonderful with our little boy) and we had a quiet, romantic dinner . Quiet, romantic.........ahhhh Now with two beefs that I hope have been addressed by next time. 1-Room Lighting-They've replaced all the halogens with flourescent bulbs. I'm all for being green but the rooms are really dark(especially bathroom) after the sun sets.(a bit too romantic) :).2. Water Pressure/Temperature- we only complained after the 3rd day and it was addressed but was never hot enough to steam up the room and pressure went from normal to less than adequate. With that said- go enjoy Tortuga!!!
