This was our third stay at the Premier section. Very close to main lobby and to the square and the Al La Cartes. The service is excellent ,the food was great. The only downside is getting resevations to the al la cartes the time you want them .,but this is the same at most resorts we just dont sweat it and enjoy this beautiful country.
Now Royal Holidays -we took the tour at the Grand Paradise Bavaro ,the suites are just beautiful .When you study the program and unterstand it you will find it is not such a bad thing. Note to benefit from the program you must travel basically three times a year .
They have a good variety of resort choices in Dominican and Mexico.and i am pleased to have became a member.
We have travelled to Dominican for the past six years and will never stop coming here.
Enjoy yourselves and dont sweat the small stuff.

We enjoyed our stay very much. I will just touch on a few points since most reviewers have covered the basics.

Bahia Principe has several different sections: Punta Cana, Bavaro, Bavaro Premier, as well as the adults only Amber and now the new Esmiralda. We have stayed at the Punta Cana once and Bavaro Premier twice now and I’m not sure why it gets the name Premier. It is the farthest from the beach and it has the smallest buffet restaurant with the smallest selection of food. Unless you are a repeat guest, as we were, you can only eat at the Premier buffet and might never know the vast differences in it as opposed to the other 2 larger buffets. Those buffets at Punta Cana and Bavaro had at least 3 times the selection of foods and also had sushi and cavier every day. We liked the smaller resort atmosphere at the Premier but really appreciated being able to eat at the other buffets for variety.

Check in was fast and efficient except for one small thing. They gave us the wrong wrist bands. Repeat guests are supposed to get a silver wrist band which, as I mentioned before, gets you into most buffets and bars. We were also told that we would get an extra a la carte – 4 instead of 3. They prebooked 2 for us before we arrived and waiting in our room for us was a fruit basket, 2 resort t-shirts, a small bottle of rum and no charge for the safe. The second day, I went to customer services in Bavaro Lobby to make my other 2 restaurant selections and was told repeatedly that I could only make one more not two. After checking our room number she finally agreed that we would get two more but didn’t tell us that we had the wrong wrist bands. Next day I went to Premier lobby customer service to book computer time and she noticed the mistake right away and gave us the silver bands. Things like that happen and didn’t spoil our vacation in any way. Remember they have to deal with at least 4 different language groups so mix ups will happen.

The a la carts we ate at were Dominican, Japanese and Italian. (We decided to cancel our 4th selection because we liked the buffet so well) They were all good but we loved the Dominican. It is an outdoor setting and the fish was wonderful. Japanese food was very good and always fun to sit and watch chef prepare your dinner. The Italian was a gourmet restaurant where they pile the food high and arrange it nicely on the plate. I had the snapper in balsamic reduction and it was excellent although not much color on the plate. Husband had beef and didn’t like it very much.

I need to visit the doctor on the resort. She was wonderful, spoke perfect English, and was able to order the prescription for me over the phone. It was delivered in 30 minutes. What a relief to know that medical staff is really doing a fine job.

We found the beach was over crowded and the towel game goes on continually. We were usually able to get a shady spot to sit at the beach but we spent one whole day in the sun because literally hundreds of loungers around us had towels on them and no one ever came to sit on them. Around 5 pm the towels gradually started to disappear. This is very frustrating and unkind. Actually I found almost any problems we encountered were not due to hotel or staff but to rude guests.

To sum up – Over the past 10 years we have vacationed alternately in Mexico and Domician Republic. During the first 6 years, Mexico was my favorite with excellent service and food but over the past 4 years their service has slipped drastically and Dominican Republic has really improved in both areas. Of course this is a generalization as we tend to return to the same areas and resorts in both countries and I cannot say if this holds true for all resorts.

We went for a quick week just to chill out and have a well earned rest! We had read the previous reviews and were prepared for a big resort. It was very big but not overwhelming and we quickly got our bearings ie where the buffets were and our rooms etc. We did get lost trying to find the restuarants so either find where they are during the day or set off in plenty of time before your reservation!!! The rooms were lovely and spotlessly clean every day. We could not fault the place at all. The staff were really friendly and couldnt do enough for you - and that was without tipping all the time! The food was lovely and the restaurants really nice. We only went to two shows whilst we were there - the Michael Jackson show - DONT MISS IT! and the ABBA show which was really good too. Going to this hotel you certainly wont be disappointed. Its the only place i have been where ive been really sad to leave! We have really chilled out here. The resort
as something for everyone. There is plenty to do for all ages. If you want to be entertained all day there is someone there all the time but if you want to chill out and rest there is the space to do it too. Coming here you will not be disappointed. We will definately be coming back and when we do we will be staying for longer! BRILLIANT!

i will make this short as there was not alot of good to write about.
we stayed here for our second week in the dominican and our honeymoon. we spent the first week at the Dreams Palm Beach and got married there with a group of 19.
after spending a week at the dreams and then coming to the bahia for our honeymoon, we were quickly wishing we stayed at the dreams for two weeks.
we were disappointed with this resort from the minute we got there.
WAY TO BIG!
nothing in this resort is convienent, there are 3 bus lines that get you around the hotel, ridiculous. you spend most of your time trying to read to paper map that they give you when you check in and the other have waiting for the bus to take you there..... only to be disappointed when you get there.
unless you pay $$$$$$ to upgrade to the top you are given on of many different coloured wristbands which lets the staff know which category you are and how nice they have to be to you. this is true. good luck getting a drink with the good alcohol unless you have the right color wristband... and actually good luck getting yourself a drink at the lobby bar, the estimated time we witnessed to get a drink was about 15 minutes.
the food at the buffet was just OK, and the a la cartes was horrible, we had reservations for 3 of them but having had such bad food at the first two, we skipped the third and just went to the buffet.
this hotel just has way to much going on, that you end up being pissed off the whole time trying to find your way.... dont forget anything in your room, because you will spend the next hour travelling back on the bus to your room....lol
beach was nice, but way to packed with people, so much so that you couldn't walk in a straight line to the beach, you had to weave in and around all the messed up beach chairs.
pick a better hotel... something smaller trust me you will have a better time
and if you want to be around canadians do go here... they cater to europeans.
it was 80% european 10% french 10 Canadians

good luck if you already booked
if you haven't ...... try the dreams palm beach.... way better

The headline says it all.

Check-in lasted too long-- about two hours. A tall, thin man asked for my "voucher", so I gave him some paperwork and he told us to stand over near the entrance to the Gran Bahia Punta Cana lobby and just walked away with it. I caught up to him about an hour later to ask for my papers or at least a copy.

He told me that we are being put up in a different part of the complex (this place is too huge) and that we can wait where he told us to wait. I watched him for a bit and he was collecting "vouchers" from other customers and trying to get everyone started on the check in procedure, but he never seemed to finish with any one group.

Eventually, we got to the "Premier" section of the complex and they wondered why we were there. Only one person at the Premier desk new what he was doing. Others would come to you and ask to help, but if your request was more complicated than asking for a map of the place, you were quickly referred (along with a dozen others waiting at the desk) to the only person who knew anything.

The grounds are in immaculate condition. The flora is truly special (and I am not a "flora" kind of guy), the rooms are very nice, the food is tasty (I am a food kind of guy), the pools cool and clear, drinks go down very easy, the beach has great sand and a shoal (natural or man made??-- I am not certain) to knock down the waves and many of the service people did a nice job.

It just appeared that the organizational type of worker (check in desk) is in short supply. We've been to many other resorts like this (several in Mexico and one in Jamaica) and have never seen this amount of disorganization. If they hire/train individuals who can handle organization in a better way, this could be a wonderful experience in a resort.

If not, they may not be able to carry the burden of their size.

Nice Hotel with great social areas.
The food was fantastic at the beginning, but you kinda get home sick after a week or so...

The sea is great as well, if you snorkel dont forget to bring your own gear.
