This is a wonderful place for folks looking for an off-the-beaten-track kind of experience. It's sort of the antithesis of the "all-inclusive" compounds that the DR is known for. If you plan to be making day trips around Samana, this might be a good choice for you. The rooms are spacious, and though they are not posh, they are decorated and laid out in such an interesting manner, they will be memorable to me for their simple but elegant Caribbean touches. The staff are all very kind and attentive. The owner, Roberto, will help you with anything he possibly can. First, he dispatched a staff member to get us, lost, in Samana. Also, he dug up a desperately needed piece of electrical equipment for one of our chargers, and he supplied us, at no cost, with snorkeling gear. Minutes after we got there a young man presented us with coconuts, with the tops lopped off so that we could enjoy coconut milk. Breakfast is simple -- toast, juice, fruit, coffee. The grounds are beautiful, in a very casual, natural sort of way, and you get to enjoy breakfast with an amazing panoramic view. The beach does not offer the turquoise blue/white sand kind of experience you might be hoping for, but we were forewarned about that so we knew this place would be more of a base for the day trips we'd planned to make during our four-day stay in the Samana area. I am glad we stayed here. It was authentic and memorable. Our 14 year old son loved that he could roam the place, and he really enjoyed the company of the staff and Roberto's two dogs.
