If you have the time do go to see The River Antoine distillery, the process is over 200 years old and so it most of the equipment it certainly would not pass "its yer elf and safety rules ennit" here in the uk but it is an education. have a taste of the rum and buy some to take home its worth it, if you can get it in the uk it'll cost over £40.

We visited on our full day tour with AJ Meddy and when we arrived, there were no tour groups going out so Allen gave us his own tour of the facility. What we did not realize is that when the dry season comes and the river is low the distillery does not process any more rum as the distillery is run with a water wheel...no water, no wheel moves...no rum.
The sugar cane was all sitting there on the conveyor belt not moving. The tour was only approximately 10 minutes but if you like rum I imagine it would be interesting.

Interesting visit, had a lovely lady as our guide around the distillery. My husband enjoyed the tasting and also buying a bottle to bring home! Thank you

It was a long drive up here, but it was worth it, very interesting to see how they do everything pretty much the same way that they have been doing for over 225 years.
There are some comments below about the tour guide being unfriendly, maybe she was having a bad day or maybe we got someone else, but our guide couldn't have been nicer or more helpful, she was very patient and explained each process in great detail and waited for me to take all of my pictures.
The tour itself is pretty short, maybe about 15-20 minutes followed by a tasting of their fire rum...
They are only about 10 minutes from the Belmont Estate so you can plan the day around visiting both places together.

Great tour with a very friendly guide at an old rum distillery, that runs by watermill. Also tasting at the end of the tour. There are also t-shirts sold with a text "don´t say rum, say River´s" and rum bottles, so take some money with you. :)

We visited the place withing Sunsation Tour´s island tour.
