“Fantastic value for money - the Island is a treasure”
Reviewed 25 May 2008

From the moment I arrived at Jenny's Place I felt at home. The other guests were immediately friendly (even those who were upset to be vacating the room for us!) and Jenny and Shaun came by to introduce themselves, which was a nice touch. After a long, hot flight, walking down the garden and through the gate onto Grande Anse beach at sunset was quite simply breathtaking. Slipping into the way of life was no hardship at all! The friendliness of the locals is unsurpassed and is emphasised by the constant sounding of car horns as a greeting to other drivers and pedestrians alike!

The room was big, clean and comfortable. The beach is beautiful, the sea is calm and warm and the local beer cold and plentiful! Jenny and Shaun were lovely hosts, sharing drinks with us and the other guests (who weren't bad either!). All in all it was a great place to be and we are already planning a return trip at Christmas. I challenge anyone to go and not return feeling relaxed, happy and truly like they have had a holiday.

I had never been to the Caribbean, let alone Grenada, before this trip. Now i am quite certain if I never went anywhere BUT Grenada i'd be more than happy! I could not have had a better place to stay then Jenny and Shaun's place, Shaun's humour and Jenny's grace were the perfect accompaniment to the lively, entertaining Turning Point bar/restaurant and tranquil serenity of Grand Anse beach. This is a friendly island, (despite the occasional over-priced nutmeg from a beach trader!), and from the very first welcome, the people at Jenny's made the whole trip special and gave a warm and safe base to a single traveller. I have read the review about the dispute between the bar and Jenny's, while I chose to avoid that then, i can be certain to encourage any other visitors to ignore it also. I was made to feel extremely welcome in both places, shared drinks and laughs with all parties involved and think I'd be back there now if I could! The island as a whole is a special place, with elements of magic about its contrasts, rainforest to crystal seas, sweet fruit to explosive rum and relaxation with exhileration.
I am back to the 12 hour working day already, but still there is a deep sense of contentment from my time over there. I felt a real need to spread the word in some form of recompense to the welcome shown me, all of the guests were already planning return trips too (Louise & Sean, get in touch!!) and I would say this is a great choice for anyone with a need for pleasure and the beautiful things in life.

Agree to a certain extent with some points made by the previous post.

Shaun and Jenny are decent and helpful people, or at least they were to us during our stay and yes there does appear to be some sort of dispute going on with the people running the Turning Point, however we never had any conversations with Shaun or Jenny concerning this and never really felt in the middle of dispute, apart from once. At 4 am one morning a group of men decided to come around and start banging on things and shouting at Jenny and Shaun, if this is connected to the problem with the Turning Point then a resolution needs to be found quickly as it's completely wrong to expect guests to go through it too. Having said that, if this hadn't taken place then we wouldn't have known there was any issue at all. We spent some nights (Thursdays) at the Turning Point and thoroughly enjoyed it. It certainly wasn't enough of a problem that we would up sticks and leave. Hopefully they will all bury the hatchet soon and get on with it, it's not really a bad place.

The property itself is nice, the garden nice and the room we stayed in, the sunflower suite, very spacious. There is some work that needs doing to this suite though as the bathroom is in need of an upgrade, there is damp on the cieling. It wouldn't take too much to fix but is unsightly. Everything else was fine and worked ok. The girls that work there are great fun and a real assett to Shaun and Jenny, lets hope they read this because they are.

The property does indeed back onto the beach, it's at the North end of the beach and if I was being picky, it's not the nicest part of the beach however it's calm here and only a few short strides will get you to the wide and sandier part of the beach, so it works just fine.

I can see why this place was No1 on trip advisor, this place could and should be perfect, this thing with the Turning Point needs to get sorted and the 3 young dogs opposite who start barking at 6:45 am every morning everytime someone passes becomes a bit tiresome. If peaceful is what you're after then, I'm sorry Shaun and Jenny, this is not the place. If you're a light sleeper like me then whether you want to or not you're getting up at 7.

Would I stay here again, if the problems were sorted - yes. Shaun and Jenny are nice and the girls who work here great too. It's a good base to explore the island and get off Grand Anse, which was my least favourite beach anyway.

Well after much searching on the web, and reading numerous reviews in Trip Advisor, we finally decided on Jenny's Place, in St. George, Grenada.
We were booked for Mar 30 - Apr 06. We left after two days.
Now why you ask? Well, first of all let me say the Shaun and Jenny are extremely friendly people, and this review has nothing to do with their demeanor in anyway, shape or form.
Unfortunately the Turning Point Restaurant that Shaun and Jenny lease to another operator has become the focal point of a disagreement between the two parties. Simply, the people running the Turning Point, were not keeping up the standards expected by Shaun and Jenny, and as a result their lease was not renewed. However they did not leave, and basically became "squatters", and are still running the restaurant.
On our arrival we were informed that the breakfast part of the
reservation was not longer in effect (due to the dispute), and that our fridge would be stocked nightly with cereal, fruit, meat and cheese. We were advised to let our "concience" be our guide to patronizing the Turning Point.
One of the main reasons we chose Jenny's was due to the great reviews of the camaraderie, casualness and location of the bar/property.
We were here to vacation, not be in the middle of a labour dispute. Therefore, we felt uncomfortable walking through the restaurant, which is the only access to the beach.
Jenny and Shaun were very gracious, but the experience had already effected our overall impression.
That being said, we found the apartments were clean and basic (not "five star" as earlier mentioned) .A bit of maintenance might be in order, with regards to loose fixtures, burned out lights etc. These are small items, but noticeable.

  • Liked — View from the balcony
  • Disliked — Minor repair issues and ongoing Labour dispute with tenants

We have the following response to a recent review titled: Jenny's was nice, however (from son of a sailor)

The current challenge with the restaurant at Jenny's pertains to the maintenance of standards. We hope to resolve this issue soon. In the meantime, we have gone to great lengths to overcome this temporary problem by offering other dining options.
It should be noted that from April 15, off peak rates do not include breakfast. All of our suites and apartments have their own kitchens or kitchenettes.

We are convinced that the guests who checked out early and made this report to Trip Advisor had other motives. This is clear to us because the reasons they gave us for checking out were not consistent with those given to Trip Advisor. We could not have been more accommodating or co-operative to them.

It should also be noted that other guests have come and gone with pleasant experiences, as our Trip Advisor ratings will attest.

Jenny's Place should be a secret. We've travelled extensively in the last 3 years (150 flights each to many destinations across the Americas). This is the first time I've ever seen 5 star service and accommodation standards at 2 star prices. I work as the property manager for a Governor in the Caribbean - so I know what is good, acceptable or bad. The accommodations are exceptional - safe for children and bordering luxurious (certainly a genuine 4 star Caribbean hotel grade). The welcome is exceptional - like returning to a family after years away.

When I compare Grenada to other islands; it rates in the top 5 for a week long stay. But hire a car and do it yourself - there is a great deal to see and do (even the roads are the best in the Caribbean). We even found the supermarkets to be of a higher standard than other islands - an important factor for many. But it always really comes down to 3 things: accommodation, beach and people (you can always find good restaurants wherever you travel; even Saba!) I've covered accommodation, so just need to comment on the last 2 factors: First; people: just walking up Grand Anse should result in 20 conversations - we were even offered dinner - and accepted - by a lady selling her wares on the beach (she even brought a qualified babysitter to look after our child while we ate): all for $ 30.00. Finally, the beach: check out the photo's on the web-site - perfect (30 second walk from the room).

In sum, an absolute bargain (not seen through rose tinted spectacles).

We had the distinct pleasure of spending 9 nights at Jenny's Place in February. All the positive comments by previous guests are accurate. Jenny and Shaun are open, friendly and helpful hosts. We arrived about 9:30pm (thanks, American Airlines) and the on-site restaurant was closed. (Note: Jenny and Shaun lease this part of the facility to an independent operator.) Realizing we were hungry, Shaun insisted we climb in his car, and he took us to a restaurant and waited while we got some hot dinnners to go! Now THIS is customer service!

The location is at the north end of Grande Anse, with good sunsets, gentle swimming right in front of the inn, and excellent level beach walking. The room was quite sizable, had good climate control, good water pressure most days, a good mini-fridge, and pretty comfrotable bed. Housekeeping was quite satisfactory, and the young women were very friendly. The balcony was nice, looking toward the sea, but was a bit hot in the aftrenoon. Breakfast is served under a canopy on the lawn near the restaurant.

No place is perfect, but we struggled to think of anything very negative about Jenny's. There were only two minor quibbles we had. Parking one evening when there was music at the restaurant was difficult. And at breakfast you need to be on time. One morning when we got there, the juice was gone, and we were told there was no more juice. So we planned to get there 10 minutes earlier the other days, and all worked well.

So the bottom line is, we would gladly recommend Jenny's Place to anyone seeking a friendly, laid back ,customer oriented inn on a long beach. Anyone looking for a wild and loud pool scene should be advised to look elsewhere, actually not on Grenada at all. If we are fortunate enough to return to Grenada, we hope that Jenny and Shaun have space for us.

My husband & I just spent two glorious weeks having a restful, carefree holiday. No car or expensive taxis to fret about, just enjoying an environment for easy accessing of all you need for relaxing. If you read all the other reviews, believe the positive remarks and we will just reeiterate them. Accommodation is spacious, clean, quiet & comfortable with attractive furnishing including micro, coffee maker, kettle and fridge. The beach is more private without constant comings & goings and wonderfully easy to access for enjoying the white sand beach and calm warm water for swimming or standing in chest deep water with a beer. When you get energetic you can take a 2 mile walk or jog the length of Grand Anse Beach.
A short walk down the beach takes you to 2 shopping centers, banks, restaurants or use a cheap route bus on the nearby road. The Turning Point cafe offers you the experience of island cooking, friendly Grenadians and an excellent island sound of jazz or jump-up. For golfers there is even a golf course which is within walking distance (without a full bag of clubs!).
Does this sound like an ideal spot? Yes, Jennie's Place is. And yes, Jennie & Shaun are lovely owners. The Keirs, Canada
