Jenny's Place is a wonderful place for a holiday!

Jenny and her staff are always friendly and helpful, they make you feel at home from the very first moment!

The rooms are spacious and clean. We stayed in an upstairs room with a sea view - what a view ! We spent our days touring this beautiful island or lying on the beach where we could use Jenny's chairs, umbrellas and beach towels for free. We enjoyed the excellent food (made by Eve, the cook) in Jenny's restaurant, called the Foolish Chicken. You can have breakfast in the morning in the restaurant and you can reach out your hand and touch the sea!

We both love the Caribbean sea and have already been to many different islands and this hotel has been the best we ever had !

We highly recommend this place!

My wife, her family, my family and friends all met up at Jenny's Place in January. It was an absolutely incredible trip. We live overseas (we're expat Canadians) and have family and friends all over the place. We could not have picked a more welcoming, hospitable, and relaxing location than Jenny's Place. We spent time on the beach in front of the hotel, we used the free chairs, the free kayak, and loved the location as a base for long walks on the beach. Jenny organized tours for us - boat trips, bus tours, and arranged taxis as needed (not always the most convenient thing in Grenada). The bar/restaurant was great. We were all up late at night playing cards with drink by the beach enjoying the outstanding food served by Eve (the cook!). We were there for 3 weeks and trust me (as a huge eater!!!) the restaurant is top notch, is by far the best on the entire beach, and very reasonably priced. If you are looking for a place to stay in Grenada, there is NO OTHER!!!!

We are actually back on this site now planning for our next trip to Grenada in late May. I'm counting down the seconds to stay in one of those huge, comfortable, and accommodating rooms. Jenny was very helpful in providing us with a portable stove and other kitchenware to ensure that we could take care of ourselves in the room as needed. We had a coffee maker, a more than satisfactory fridge, a microwave and plenty of space to load the place up with food and drinks. Thinking about it already gets me in the relaxed mode!

I would absolutely recommend this to anybody from couples to family with kids to groups looking to get together. It really was great.

My husband and I just returned from our 3rd trip to Grenada. We stayed again at Jenny's Place since we had enjoyed our time there before. As was expected, the food was excellent, the rooms clean and spacious, and the hospitality wonderful. Frankly, the value here is so much better than anything else we looked at. We plan on going back to Grenada next winter, and we will definitely stay at Jenny's Place.

All not what it appears to be !

My wife and I have just spent six weeks (Mid Jan 09 to March 09) at Jenny’s Place and upon arrival all seemed fine until the cracks appeared, Jenny and Shaun gave us a warm welcome to start with but a couple of days after gave us the impression that we were only tolerated (maybe we were not in awe of Jenny’s past as we should have been).
There is a distinct tense atmosphere about the place caused by the shouting and bullying of the staff mainly by Shaun who disappeared about ten days before the end of our stay and the staff seemed a lot brighter after he left.

The Location
Jenny’s place is located behind a barbed wire fence at the not so nice very northern end of Grand Anse Beach where the beach is both narrow, littered with building rubble and has murky water but enjoys good sunsets. The dollar taxi (bus) route is just a short walk up the hill on the main road giving access to both St Georges and the main part of Grand Anse.

The Staff
Even though the staff appeared to be unhappy at their work they were all very pleased to help in whatever way they could and would always give us a smile.

The Room
Our delightful room was called Heliconia and was spacious, clean, well furnished and equipped with a large
balcony (15’ by 6’) but had over roof ocean views, not full views as we expected. The bathroom was spacious with a shower over the bath which was unsatisfactory as it had very low water pressure, sometimes none at all. When I discussed this problem with Shaun he replied “ that is not good enough, however I cannot turn up the pressure because it will burst the pipes”. There is air conditioning which in our opinion must be limited so as not to go below 22 degree’s centigrade. All that said, we were quite comfortable there, it’s just a shame that these points weren’t rectified

The Restaurant and Bar
This is a short stroll through the garden and serves full meals, snacks and drinks; the restaurant manager Sue (originally from Manchester UK) was also not very happy and left after only a few weeks.
Beach loungers and umbrellas are available free of charge; however one has to struggle with these down steep steps onto the beach and then take them back again when finished with. Jenny and Shaun always insisted that sunbeds were returned to where we got them from. This is very hard work and the outcome was that we chose to walk down the beach to the nicer part of Grand Anse Beach and pay for beach loungers. There is a fresh water shower close to the restaurant which can be useful when there is no water in the room shower.

The Gardens
These are very well maintained and are full of tropical colours with a crazy paved foot path down to the restaurant and bar. The path has solar lights to guide the way, most of which don’t work .

Conclusion
Judging by previous excellent reports about Jenny’s Place, things have changed dramatically. It might be O.K. for just a couple of days. The place has great potential however our stay was not as enjoyable as we planned or expected. Would we return – Certainly not, we know that we can get better service and value elsewhere.
and we would not recommend Jenny’s Place to anyone.

Jenny060, Owner/Manager at Jenny's Place, responded to this reviewResponded 12 March 2009

We must be slipping! Two unflattering letters in one month is way too much for us. But let us once again try to respond.

In February we had unseasonal weather. This occurred throughout the Caribbean. Lots of rain causing pipes to burst . The broken pipes meant that we had to use our back up system but it is never as powerful as the mains. We are on the public system so everyone in the area had a similar problem to us! The heavy rains resulted in some murkiness caused by land drainage into the sea. This problem occurs all along the beach but is more noticeable at the North and Southern end of the beach. Jenny's Place is at the northern end.

Sue, our Restaurant Manager (who was also British) had agreed to work with us only to train our new staff over a period of some weeks. She will soon be opening up her own business and never intended to work more than a month or two with us. We now have a more permanent and quite satisfactory new restaurant Manager.

Sorry that Jenny's Place did not win over this couple. Once again, we tried and will always continue to do so.

We just returned from staying a month at Jenny’s Place. We stayed here because of the recent reviews and because it had an apartment with cooking facilities.

We have traveled extensively in the Caribbean over the years and we have seen the best and the worst that the Caribbean has to offer. Some resorts are more candid and transparent than others and this resort was not as candid as they should have been upon registration.

When communicating, before registration, with Jenny and her office staff, I stated (both in email and telephone) that we needed a full kitchen with cooking facilities and another bed, as a queen size was not adequate for my husband and me. I was assured by Jenny that we would have full sized fridge, stove, all cooking utensils and another bed would be provided. It was on this assurance that I finished booking with Jenny’s Place. I was also told that I would receive 25% early booking bonus as I had reserved and had given her a deposit for the apartment.

We arrived at Jenny’s Place and were greeted by Shaun and Jenny and we were shown our suite. I pointed out to them that I had requested another bed, was told that we would have another bed, and Shaun went out to the patio area and brought in a 6 inch dirty foam mattress that would be placed on the floor for sleeping then picked up and put behind the couch for daytime. Now, we are in our 60’s and we both have arthritis so getting up and down off of the floor and sleeping on a 6 inch foam mattress was not an option. This was not a bed, as promised, but we were determined to make the best of things.

The fridge consisted of a mini fridge that barely kept anything cold, the stove consisted of a two burner hot plate that they placed on top of the microwave and the cooking utensils consisted of two frying pans and a small pot, Spartan at its best. One of the burners on the hot plate barely got hot. We had much food spoil on us because of the inadequate fridge.

This mini refrigerator, upon our arrival, had 6 inches of frost around the freezer area, and we had asked housekeeping to defrost it, but that did not happen and we thought that maybe it would keep things cooler if it was defrosted. We dragged the mini fridge out to the patio to defrost it because we did not want water to run all over the floor. Jenny came by and she said, “Excuse me! What are you doing?” We said that we were defrosting the fridge then she asked us if we really had to do it out here. We explained to her that we did not want to get the floor in the suite full of water and judging from the amount of frost in this fridge, that it was going to create a lot of water. Fridge got defrosted by us and it did not help the fridge any to help keep things cold.

On our second or third day there, Shaun fired the nice young man that brought out the sun beds and umbrellas every day. When we brought our beach loungers and umbrellas down to the beach, we were nagged by Jenny and Shaun to make sure that we brought them back. Everybody was told to bring their loungers and umbrellas back and that was ok with us, but we needed them to spare us the lecture every day about bringing them back.

Jenny decided that she was going to be helpful one day and helped us bring our loungers down to the beach area. She nagged us the entire way wondering why we wanted to go so far down the beach and why did we need an umbrella and make sure that we bring these things back. We never missed one day where we did not bring our loungers and umbrellas back to the resort and often wondered did she just like to nag for the sake of nagging?

We were on vacation! Who needs to be nagged at constantly when we can get that kind of stress at home for free!!

The beach in front of Jenny’s Place is very rocky and stony and you sink down about 5 inches into these sharp stones before you get to the sandy part of the water. For the previous two years we had stayed further down Grand Anse beach at Grenada Grand Beach Resort and the beach there was absolutely gorgeous.

After a few days we were handed our invoice and asked to pay. Upon looking at the invoice it did not deduct the 25% early booking bonus as promised. I pointed it out to Jenny and it was cleared up but it was just another unnecessary annoyance that should not have happened in the first place.

Shaun seemed to always be on the rampage about something or another and the staff there seems to be very unhappy, the restaurant manager quit while we were there and left to go to another resort. I heard Shaun one time hollering and yelling at one of the staff in the restaurant and he told her to go and clean rooms because he did not want to look at her.

Lots of high dramas at this place, so if you are looking for peace and quiet, this is not the place for you. If you like drama, this is the place for you. As for my husband and I, we like to be quiet when we go on vacation because we deal with a lot of stress with jobs and such when we get home. We also like to have what we were promised as in the extra bed, full sized fridge, full sized stove and proper cooking utensils.

A thief got into Shaun and Jenny’s apartment and apparently took $5,000 and some documents. A few days later the gardener caught the young thief and brought him to Shaun and Jenny’s apartment. Shaun and Jenny tied the kid to a chair and Jenny slapped him across the face very hard before calling the police. As I said, lots of high drama at this place and this was only a small sampling or what went on at this resort.

Every day brought a new drama or two or three.

Grenada is a great place to visit, but we will not be staying at Jenny’s Place again nor would we recommend it to anybody. Perhaps if you are only staying for a week or a couple of weeks you would not witness all of the ranting and ravings of Jenny and Shaun, or maybe things have just changed a lot around that resort.

They seriously need a management course on how to deal with customers and employee relations.

On the plus side, the suite was very clean, but not so well maintained. The gardener kept the grounds immaculate and beautiful. The sea is warm and the sun is hot, perfect for tanning.

First, we regret the fact that we did not have the apartment requested by this reviewer. We thought that we had explained at the time of booking that all we could offer was a suite with kitchenette, not a full kitchen, as had been requested. Details of the contents of our apartments and suites are listed on our website.

Second, details provided in this review of an incident that occurred are incorrect. We have fully investigated the described event and the details given by those present differ dramatically from what was described in this review.

Jenny's Place goes out of its way to provide value and service to our guests. As a small facility we do our best to meet international standards. It should be noted that this resort was recently honoured by local authorities for meeting both local and international standards.

My son and I have just returned from a sailing holiday in Grenada and the surrounding islands and needed a place to stay both before and after the voyage.

I found Jenny's Place on the Internet and also referred to Trip Advisor for comments

I now would like to share my comments and praise for the place.

Because it’s a smallish place the level of personal service you get from Jenny, Shaun and their team is excellent. Anything they can do to help is done with a smile. Examples: -

We wanted to leave most of our luggage behind while sailing (no problem)
We arrived a bit late but still wanted dinner (no problem)
We needed to use the Internet to Check-In on line (no problem)
We asked to keep the room on until the afternoon of (both) departures so we could get a shower and change (no problem)
We wanted to play golf (no problem, I’ll run you up there!)

All the above said with a genuine smile

The rooms (well in our case suite - Orchid) was enormous, well equipped and had a spectacular view of the ocean. The double bed was mine, the sofa bed my son’s.

The full kitchen means that you can keep cold drinks, fruit etc in the fridge and can make tea coffee etc whenever you wish. You could cook a full meal, but there’s too much choice nearby and well you’re on holiday!

The Restaurant and Beach bar are a short stroll through the garden and offer both full meals, drinks and snacks – the fresh fruit and continental breakfast (included in the room rate) are a perfect way to start your day!

At the bar you can pick up loungers, umbrellas, towels etc for the beach and borrow the two-seater kayak if you feel energetic for half an hour or so. There is also a fresh water shower and toilet adjacent.

The location is excellent, right on the beach at the quieter (northern) end, far enough away from the Cruise Passengers and Beach Vendors, but only a short walk up the (short) hill to the Supermarket (cheap beer), bank and ATM, also the excellent No 1 Minibus into St Georges (2.50 $EC per person).

There are plenty of other beach bars etc. for a change of scene within a short walk. I recommend walking about ¾ mile along the beach to the open-air restaurant (next to the massage place – not a euphemism for something else!), which is in fact the University Campus dining facility. Their Curried Mutton (20$EC) is excellent. Beer is 5$EC. And the exercise of walking there gives you an appetite.

I would thoroughly recommend anyone to stay at Jenny’s Place a perfect home form home with everything you need for a very relaxed holiday.

Please IGNORE the negative comment about the restaurant in an earlier posting, it was a long time ago, the restaurant is now run on behalf of Jenny and Shaun by Barbara (originally from Manchester) and is excellent!

I hope you enjoy your stay at Jenny’s Place; you will also be able to say to your friends back home “I stayed at Miss World’s place while on holiday”

Good Luck, have a great holiday

John

PS Incidentally a small suggestion, for an interesting night out try Patrick’s (in Lagoon Road just opposite the entrance to the new Port Louis Marina, before you get to St George’s centre), he’s a very “camp” local guy with a weird sense of humour, they serve a fixed menu of approx 15 – 20 small dishes of local delicacies including “Oil Down” and Goat Curry etc. etc Dinner is 60$EC per head, a great experience and wonderful food!
