It was such a surprise to find an hotel/inn of this high quality in a quiet Welsh backwater. My wife and I stayed 2 nights bed and breakfast and then paid extra for 2 nights dinner at the hotel which proved to be a wise choice as the quality of the food and price were really good. There is a reasonably extensive wine list and again, reasonable prices. The bedroom we had (No. 1.) was well appointed and stylishly decorated and with a bed that was very comfortable. The bathroom was very large and equipped with the highest quality fittings imaginable. The shower was among the best we have ever encountered. The room overlooks the town square where there is plenty of daytime activity, often interesting to watch. There is a modern type restaurant as an integral part of the hotel and this is where breakfast is served. However, we chose to eat in the bar rooms where the atmosphere was very pleasant. It would be remiss if we did not mention the very friendly staff at all levels, from the owner downwards. He is obviously a hands on owner to whom we got chance to chat, and he told us that he had owned it since 2010, and only now are the main refurbishment tasks completed. The last seems to have been the rear car park and gardens, those being to a very high standard in keeping with the rest of the place. Parking is free in the car park but the town square at the front of the hotel is also free to park and we never had a problem finding a space. The surrounding countryside is absolutely delightful and should we be in the area again, would not hesitate to choose to stay here again.

Room Tip: A room at the front of the hotel would be a good choice.

Lovely hotel & resturant, good value food and drink and friendly, efficient service, long way out in the country but worth visiting if you are in the area. Back bar a bit lively on Sunday lunchtime, might be an idea to ask some of the younger lads to tone their language down a bit as it does carry through the rest of the downstairs area.

Just got home from 2 nights at this lovely Hotel. Every single member of staff was amazing and so friendly. My room was great and my bathroom was stunning!! Food was delicious and the whole trip was worth the 6 hour drive. I particularly liked the little details such as fresh coffee in my bedroom and homemade shortbread - delicious!!! Cannot fault this place, a real find!!

Room Tip: Room 1 was lush!!

As a group, we had had a terrible eating experience the previous day elsewhere and so we were desperate to find somewhere really good for our Sunday lunch. And what a treat this gem turned out to be. The food was absolutely superb! From Venison to Ox cheek, burgers to fishcakes, there was something for everyone! We had a fabulous afternoon, great facilities, really helpful staff and lovely surroundings! Will definitely recommend to others and head back here if we are ever around Tregaron again! Thanks!

Last saturday we took our 4 visitors from Shropshire to the Talbot. They had all been there before, but a few years ago. They were staggered at the extension to the building and the amount of investment which has taken place since the new ownership, the quality of the kitchen and stunning new landscaping at the back. Needless to say our meals were delicious, Butternut squash soup, steak sandwich, Chicken pie and venison.
Faultless...we will be back. Thanks for everything.

This character hotel has had a huge amount of money spent on it and in so doing has lost none of its charm and feel. A warm and friendly place to stay. Nice rooms, the whole place had a pleasant, informal feel and if any place deserves to do well, then this is it. I might find something negative to say about it, but I guess I will just have stay here again and try to find it. A great place to haul out in and discover this stunning part of Wales

A friendly pub in every respect from welcoming bar staff to a menu that is friendly in that it covers a range from snacks to more substantial choices, fine in quality but not at the prices that often accompany gourmet standard food.

The range of real ales is impressive and one can see why the pub has been rated as No 1 for this factor.

Real conversation too among the patrons that show why Y Talbot is a community pub in the best sense of the phrase.

Room Tip: Visited Y talbot as a pub in which to dine not for hotel faciities.
