“Another wonderful surprise in Haiti”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 October 2013

Our trip to Haiti was one surprise after another... all wonderful. In Cap-Haitien we stayed at Habitation Jouissant. What was once private residence is now a luxury boutique hotel on the hillside with views of the water and the city below. The service was excellent, the meals great and the accommodations high-end. All accommodations have a/c, ceiling fans, free wi-fi, flat screen TV with multiple channels, refrigerator, room service, plus all the amenities one expects from a luxury hotel. There are extra bonuses such as a telescope for better viewing from the balcony. We stayed in the Orchidee room which was grand beyond one’s expectations. It offers a separate office and a massive walk-in shower plus drop-dead views from the sleeping area, office and balcony. From our bed we could watch the full moon and in the morning the sunrise from our balcony. Upon arrival we enjoyed our welcome rum punch cocktail at the Lime Bar before dining on the balcony with a panoramic view of the area.

Room Tip: See if the Orchidee is available...

My husband and I stayed at Habitation Jouissant for 2 days during a short trip to Haiti. we were amazed to find that hidden beauty. The location is a short run up the hill but away from the city noise. The view is a breathtaking preferably during sunrise. The staff is well trained, friendly. Manager Florence Verne pays close attention to details and went beyond to make our stay desirable. We have never felt so comfortable, relaxed and secure as we were at HB. Highly recommended.

Stayed here during a 3 day stay in Cap Haitien. The hotel is located a short ride up a hill from the main road. It has amazing views, friendly staff, and great food. The beds were comfortable. Breakfast is included and is very good.

Room Tip: Choose the rooms with a small terrace (for the views). Telescopes are included on the terrace. Nice...

I spent 5 nights at Habitation Jouissant and was pleased to find such a clean, well run hotel in a splendid location. It sits on a ridge several hundred feet above the bay, and with stunning views - to the south the heart of the city with the Citadel in the distance and to the east (for the early bird), the sun rising from the sea, for the night person (lucky enough to be there at the time of a full moon) a moon rise that is absolutely stunning.
But the hotel: it has 13 rooms, several in the building that houses the bar & restaurant, and several stacked up the hillside. I stayed first in the Jasmine room, new, spacious, with balcony and great view - very classy. I also spent one night in a room in the main building and it was small but comfortable and clean.
The staff is accommodating and helpful. Can get coffee as early as 6 am and (breakfast comes with the room and may start at same time).
I took dinners in the hotel and found the various dishes well prepared, simple but good.
They have a full bar although the bartender is versed in caribbean drinks but did not know about martinis or manhattans.
They intend to have wi-fi throughout all rooms but were having difficulty and was only in the main lobby and veranda during my stay. Hopefully will be fixed soon.
They have a small pool.
Friday evening they had a young man playing beautiful music on a piano - charming.
The ride up to the hotel is a bit of adventure - seems to be nearly vertical for the first half and steep the rest with work to convert the gravel road to surfaced road ongoing.
Florence Verne, the manager is often on site, but when not her able assistants were and all helpful.

Room Tip: Ask for a room outside the main building, such as the Jasmine, since these are newer and larger and...

This hotel is modern and has great food. The staff is also very friendly and provides great service. Lastly, the views overlooking the ocean are incredible. I can't wait to visit this hotel again.

I was initially scared to drive up the steep hill to get to HJ but once I did, it was worth the drive.

Atop the mountain overlooking the city of Cap Haitian and the ocean is this wonderful boutique hotel. It's quiet and a great place to finish your long day with a nice meal and a cold Prestige. Florence Verne, the manager of the hotel, is amazing and makes you feel welcome from the minute you arrive! The service is also great with very friendly and attentive servers - especially Renial Pierre! I spent three weeks there working and I felt as if I was at home! Thanks to all for making my stay so enjoyable. I will definitely be back.
