We went there for lunch June 30,2014. On the way up, you think to yourself, where am I going. The road going up is a challenge if you are not familiar with the area. When they open the white shabby gate, it's a world of paradise. Very quiet, very romantic, everything was great, people food, atmosphere. View will take your breath away and you will kick yourself for not spending the night(like what we did). When you enter there's a fee. If you eat it will be deducted from your bill. Worth every penny. About 15 U.S. pp. I cannot not explain the view enough, it will not do justice. It's a must see. I cannot believe I was missing this all this time. I can't wait to go back.

Room Tip: I did not stay over, however I was told by others that stayed there said the rooms were perfect. The...

Dear Hanifff,

Thank you for taking the time out of your trip to visit us at Strawberry Hill and for your rave review! We truly agree with you that photos do not do the breathtaking views justice. We hope you'll be able to spend a night or two on your next trip to Jamaica to fully experience Strawberry Hill.

Cons: Started off in Bamboo (2BR villa) but requested to be moved because it was not clean. Though the main fixtures in the villa were clean, the base of the toilet was gross and the villa furniture and bed linens looked like they had not been dusted or cleaned for a long time. For the price you pay to stay here, a clean room should be expected. Strict rules about timings for food. Staff is fairly friendly though a bit serious. Food prices were pretty good compared to places in Montego & Ochi but still a bit pricey.

Pros: Staff were very considerate of our request and moved us to the famous Gong studio villa. The room was a big improvement and suited our needs much better (as we were only 2 staying here). The base of the toilet was still not clean (my husband thinks they just mop everything and clean the seat and call it a day) but it was much better than the previous villa. And honestly, it was tolerable - even for someone as picky as me - largely because of the outdoor shower!!! The 60ft infinity pool is spectacular as are the views from all over the property (including the rooms). There is plenty to keep you occupied - including Kingston which is a short 30minute drive down the mountain - and lots of steep roads to hike. Beds were the best we slept in (nice and firm). This time of year, there were not many mossies to worry about - so never really used the net.

Overall rating: 3.5stars. Honestly if the bathroom was cleaner I would have rated this place a 4 or more.

Room Tip: Stay in the studio villas (especially 'Gong') - its a more cohesive space than the more disj...

Dear Anti-Heather,

Firstly thank you for choosing Strawberry Hill and for taking the time out to send us a review. We truly value your feedback. We will definitely be taking a thorough review of Bamboo as we are very serious about cleanliness; and we are very happy you were pleased with the Gong Room which is a favourite among guests. OMG! Chris Blackwell sure did it right with this resort. I would call it 'Simple Elegance" There are not TV's in the rooms. No phones either. They give you a cell to reach them when you need to. There is a big screen TV in a common area that is next to their lovely open air restaurant. We did not stay, this was a Travel Agent inspection. We spent the better part of the afternoon after a better than fabulous lunch. It is a BEAUTIFUL Property. Our host and the staff were to the moon and back AMAZING! Total, absolute seclusion and a one of a kind getaway. If you really desire privacy and seclusion.....this is the place. High up in the Blue Mountains with a tremendous Spa and grounds. My prediction....once you go you will never go any where else. I have to wholeheartedly thank these folks for their warm Jamaican hospitality. Thank you for the sample of Chris Blackwell's fabulous Rum. Got a couple bottles at the airport to bring home to Florida. Best Rum ever.

Room Tip: The drive is a bit challenging. You will need to hire a driver. The views are amazing. Once you g...

Our family stayed at Strawberry Hill last March for three nights. It was an amazing experience as none of us had ever visited that part of Jamaica before (except my husband as a child). The views were beyond special, the service excellent, everything top notch. We took up all of Mountain View 1 & 2, which, I think, have the best views as they look to the mountains (obviously) while other cottages look mostly to the valley and coast, a view everyone enjoys from the pool or dining veranda. Mountain View is very private and perfect for families or couples traveling together. Note all the beds are doubles in the villa; no twins. As the villa has a full kitchen, we had our driver stop at a grocery store on our way up from the airport so that we could enjoy simple breakfasts and light lunches on our private veranda(S) with hammocks! Gregory Shrevington, the hotel’s manager, was very helpful, informative and accommodating both before and during our stay even arranging for a surprise birthday cake the night of our arrival. This was not our first time at a Chris Blackwell property and it will not be our last!

Room Tip: Mountain View 1 & 2 are private with great views

Dear McWarg,

We're so happy to hear you and your family had such an amazing time at Strawberry Hill! We try to exemplify the "other side of Jamaica" with our off the beaten path experiences and our warm Jamaican hospitality. And you are correct as you state that Mountain View is the best fit for families or a group of friends. Looking forward to having you in the future and to our other Island Outpost properties.

One Love,
Christina Taylor & the SH Team.

The food was outstanding, the views breathtaking, the cottages were comfy and homey. You must take a trip to the nearby UCC coffee plantation to hear about different coffee types, see real blue mountain grown coffee and see some beautiful views. We will definitely go back the next time we go to Kingston. The drive up the mountain was a fun experience, make sure you pick up some fresh mangos along the road on the drive up. Signs were not well marked, but that is the way it is in Jamaica...

My husband and I have just returned from a long weekend at Strawberry Hill. After more than 8 trips to this tiny slice of heaven in the mountains, the magic is still there. Highlights were the walk to Gordontown with Rasta Dave, a bicycle ride to the army barracks in New Castle with lunch at EITS Cafe on the way back down and a walk to St. Mark's chapel taking the back route via Crighton's coffee plantation. The warm and genuine attention from Macgyver and Jazzette (in particular) made us feel at home, and our room, Tree, was beautiful. We loved the cool days and chilly nights after the summer heat of Cayman and the way the lights of Kingston carpeted the view below. We noticed the fresh coat of paint in the Aveda spa and the restaurant area – the place looked great! My only disappointment was the incredibly hard bed – Strawberry Hill obviously has not discovered the craze for pillow top beds! Having said that it was a minor thing and the sum total was that we had an altogether amazing trip! Big thanks to all the staff at Strawberry Hill! Joanna B and Charlie G from Grand Cayman

Strawberry Hill was our final destination before flying out of Kingston. Only a fleeting 24 hour visit.

It's a truly stunning spot, way up in the hills. Our cottage was vast, delightful, totally authentic and graceful with jaw-dropping views. Deeply spoiling.

Our young teenagers were with us, though not sure they appreciated what a treat it is, and daresay not the best hotel for kids. Great for spotting hummingbirds though.

Our niggle, however, was the staff. We felt they lacked the cheery Jamaican charm that we'd so much enjoyed at our previous pit-stops. Everything seemed a tad forced and a bit of an effort. Real shame, especially given the serious dollar that this place commands.

But let's not forget Chris Blackwell, what a hero; fascinating reading up on him and seeing all his gold discs. The world of music owes him a big debt of gratitude. His long-term driver who ran us down to the airport was good fun, a fount of knowledge and the most approachable person (by far) we ran into during our brief stay.

Dear Surprising,

Thank you for you for selecting Strawberry Hill as part of your Jamaica visit. At Island Outpost & Strawberry Hill, we believe that Jamaica offers much more than just sea & sand and Strawberry Hill is a perfect example of this. We're also delighted to know you adored your cottage as we pay keen attention to details. But I am however very sorry to hear that you felt the staff lacked hospitality. We pride ourselves on our warm Jamaican hospitality as again we believe Jamaica is about the people. We hope you visit Jamaica again soon so we can extend our hospitality.

One Love,
