Loved my stay here. You'll get more sun from this resort than any other along this beach. The suites are at tallest maybe 2-3 stories high. Half Moon owes acres and acres of land so yes, there are no neighboring high rise resorts close enough to block out that wonderful sun. For restaurant, definitely go to the Sugar Mill, the food is so good. (My husband still talks about this place.) They have tons of activities and things to do on site. We played tennis, went golf carting (my favorite), snorkeling, pedal boating, and swimming with the dolphins. I wanted to do biking and golfing, but we ended up just lounging on the beach.
Okay now for a few minor kinks, it would have been absolutely perfect if not for this...
Our room wasn't ready when we got there so we had to wait for a bit (it was about 2-3 hours). It sounds bad but really I have to say it wasn't since they did everything they could to make us comfortable. The staff set us up at a temporary guest room so we would have a place to rest during the wait, get changed and enjoy the beach which is literally steps away from the room. (Just a little background on Half Moon. Most of the rooms & suites are so close to the beach side you can practically roll out of bed and roll right onto the beach. It's not your typical resort. Just read up on it, you'll be amazed.) After all the waiting and wonderful beach time, our room unfortunately still wasn't ready. So...they upgraded us to this beautiful room with an amazing beach front view....that had an even more amazing balcony where we enjoyed breakfast everyday. Only issues with the room were...black dust specks coming from the ceiling vent, ants, and the occasional cold showers. Maintenance tried to get rid of the dust issue but we kept seeing it. It really wouldn't have bother us but the vent was directly above our pillows. The specs slowly disappeared by the second day so it was fine. Then came the ants that housekeeping tried to get rid of, but some kept coming back. So my husband did a little research on his iphone and found out that you need to erase the trail they make. We actually observed the few that were left and noticed they were coming from this same path to and from the bathroom to the balcony. So my wonderful husband soaped up their trail and they never appeared again. Lastly, the shower...thank goodness we were in Jamaica, so the occasional cold shower didn't bother us. Maintenance checked it and by the second day it was fine.
Half Moon isn't a new resort, it has more than 50 years history. It'll have its minor kinks here and there but they do make up for it in service which is still top notch after 50 plus years.
