“Half Moon is more than a full experience!”
Reviewed 30 December 2013

Half Moon is a great place for someone going alone, couples and families; We opted for getting two rooms and eating at HM's restaurants; all pretty good; VERY pricey tho; was taken aback on the prices. The prop is huge: all watersports [some inclusive some not], several pools, an incredible spa, service absolutely impeccable as was cleanliness; pick up from/to airpoirt right on time. Some people/families stay in villas which come with butler/housekeeping and chef. we did not do this but everyone we met who did raved [each villa has its own pool]. Beaches gorgeous; you walk out of your door and done! u are there in seconds. Xmas dinner was excellent; next day marching band! LOVED some ofthe traditional aspects; chef put on cooking lesson and ice carving presentation and kids/families had a sand building contest. Get the golf cart, get bikes and yes, swim with dolphins; private lagoon on property [$1K per family]. Enjoy!

Room Tip: Half Moon is quite a place. just got back from a week there; impeccably clean, impeccable service...

What a fabulous vacation!!!!! We rented a villa for my husband, children and their spouses . The villa came with a cook, butler, and housekeeper. The villa was beautiful!!!! The staff was marvelous and courteous. The real treat was the fabulous cook. We had most of our meals at the villa prepared and served by the staff. The butler mixed great drinks all day. (They even put up a Christmas tree and lights in the house per my request) You will need to purchase all of your food but the pre-arrival concierge helps you design menus. The commissary food prices were a bit high but I took a taxi into the grocery store in Montego Bay and bought food, liquor etc. at about 25% less than what the commissary was charging. Then the staff prepared breakfast, lunch and dinner each day. We ate out at the Sugar Mill restaurant for Christmas dinner and while it was very nice my husband said "Why are we eating here, the cook at the villa was even better". The villa had a private pool and comes with golf carts if you want to go to the main beaches. Family played golf, tennis, basketball and relaxed..... We will definitely return if I do not have to share/ alternate my children with their in-laws for Christmas.

3 months have slipped by since our September visit to Half Moon, and I am remiss in writing this review. For those who have not read my prior reviews, we married at Half Moon in September 2003 and stayed for our honemoon. Since then we've returned every September to celebrate our anniversary, with this year the 10th anniversary. This visit as with all the others, was terrific, another 10 night stay. We returned to "our" honeymoon suite, located in cottage 1 of the West Cottages. The suite has an open walk in shower with a pebble floor, a huge soaking bathtub, and dual sinks. In addition, a king bed which faces to the walk-out porch which was complete with lounges, a table and chairs for 4. Cottage 1 is on the sand and with all the West Cottages, it has it's own pool. You can't get closer to the beach as you are on the beach!! The food was again this year, delicious. There was again a vast variety of choices for breakfast, lunch, and dinner at Seagrape Terrace, along with lunch at Robbie's Kitchen, and dinners at Il Giardino. There is something for everyone on every menu, including "kid size" portions if you ask. We highly recommend picking a "food and entertainment plan", for us the golf plan as we play golf every day. Being "on plan" for us, takes the stress out of wondering how much we've spent that day, freeing us up to fully enjoy the resort amenities.

So we are continually asked what brings us back year after year. Of course it's that the suites are beautiful, the food delcious, the drinks at the beach front and golf course bars intoxicating, and the golf course immaculate, but year after year it's about the service. The entire staff works tirelessly on great service. For example, the morning breakfast host, Mr. Everett seats us at the table of our chosing and remembers we need our immediate coffee "fix", The same for Milford and Kamieka at the 19th hole bar, it's Tanqueray and Tonic for me and they just confirm I need another. The same from the Director of Golf, Spencer Edwards. He watches our warm-up at the driving range and offers quick tips to help our games, making golf that much more enjoyable. The golf course was meticulously maintained, along with the locker rooms, and the well appointed golf shop. The golf support guys also store and clean our clubs and shoes each day and they are loaded on a golf cart for us in advance of our play. It's just a treat to be so well taken care of at the golf course.

However, service this year came in at a whole new level just when we thought that wasn't possible. On the morning following our evening arrival, we were welcomed back by Mr. Z, the resort general manager. He wanted to personally tell us our palm tree and plaque which we planted on the night we married had been relocated to a new spot, now in a grove of similar trees. Our little one gallon sprig had now grown into a full size 15+ foot tall mature palm, so this relocation was no small undertaking. A picture is attached. Mr. Z. knew we were off to the golf course soon and would be going by "our tree" and explained he did not want us surprised by it's move. Now that's service, the type of service that keeps us coming back. As if preserving our wedding palm was not enough, many resort staff worked together to help us plant another palm, this time at the golf course to commemorate our 10th anniversary. A picture is attached. We simply mentioned this desire to Spencer, who contacted the grounds crew, who contacted the on-site nursery, and the concierge staff who assisted with the plaque and co-ordinated the planting which was attended by several staff as well.

So to Mr. Z., Shernette, Andrea, Spencer, Mr. Smith, Arlien, Merricka, Carole, Cecille, Diandra, Paula, Jackie, Jodey, Milford, Kamieka, Caswall and so many others who make up our "Half Moon" family, thank you and I don't know how else to complement you all other than to say "it was another fabulous visit and see you next year".

We go every year in the summer with the whole family and get a villa. It's perfect and allows us to expand or contract the group as needed. Everyone gets there own very comfortable room and how can you not like having a butler, a cook, and a housekeeper. We take day trips and love all the activities at the resort. The cooks are superb and you plan the menu so everything is custom. It's a great way to spend time mixing the different parts of the family.

Well my 60th and Thanksgiving lined up and they (the family) all decided that we should celebrate all of the above at Half Moon Bay. Overall it worked. The facility is huge (some 400 acres) and our stay was short but comments/observations:
Rooms are very nice size and kept in good condition
The beach in our section was pretty crowed. There were less crowed areas but then you got no bar/food service
It is all inclusive. The bar was serving top shelf but I think that food was somewhat disappointing. Not bad but just nothing to rave about.
They were a bit disorganized. We arrived at about 3 PM but did not get to our room until almost 5 PM

We stayed there for 4 nights (Dec 19-23) in Villa 56. The people that work at the resort are great. They always make you feel welcome. We only came across one person who was grumpy and rude. Everyone else, and I mean everyone else, was really friendly and made it so you felt comfortable asking a question or asking for help.

The Villa was amazing. We had 3 families staying in the villa and it was nice to have breakfast and dinner with the families in a home type environment instead of dragging kids to restaurants each morning and each night. When the kids were done eating, they could just get up and go play. Also, we really appreciated the people who ran our village (Peter, Patricia, and Janet). Peter was one we dealt with the most. He gave us local history of things and answered questions we had. He organized activities for us. Janet was the cook and she made great food. Her and Peter would go to the store and buy food based on what we requested for each meal. She made good suggestions. Her cooking was great. We even found her consoling our 4 year old inside the house because he was crying about something 4 year olds cry about. Patricia took care of the cleaning and the laundry each day. I don't know how she keep every ones laundry straight each day but she did. We had a beach bag that had a stench due to one of the kids making a mistake. Janet took it and made it smell better than new.

Also, the main lobby bar was a fun place to hang out at night. We were dealing with Wells and Mario and they kept the drinks coming and they were entertaining to talk to as well. However, I do have a complaint for the management. All of the workers at the bar had to wear hair nets, which seemed odd because most of them had shaved heads. It was weird that a person with a shaved head would have to wear a hair net. In the US, we don't make bartenders wear hair nets so that was odd anyway. But, the shaved heads with hair nets seemed silly.

I have focused on the people. I'll quickly cover the rest. The resort doesn't nickel and dime you for the non-motorized activities. For instance, these activities were all included: tennis, putt putt, basketball, kayaks, paddle boats, sail boats, etc. The beaches were really nice as well. If you wanted a busy beach with waiters you could have that. If you wanted an empty beach with no waiters you could have that also.

My family and I will definitely go back.

Room Tip: If you are getting a Villa, I know that 55-59 and 95-99 were near the water which was nice. There a...

Stayed there for 5 nights and we loved it. It's very pricey but worth every penny. It's definitely not a budget vacation. The staff were friendly and super helpful. There is a lot to keep you occupied in the resort too. Played golf there and our caddy Anthony was awesome so was the valet Paul. Will definitely go back there the next time I am in Jamaica.
