We just returned from our third trip to this resort. Before we discovered this place we traveled to many upscale Carribian resorts. There is no match to this one! Breathtaking beach, warm and welcoming staff, the best accomodations. They all work so hard to provide you with the best service, food, the cleanest rooms. Special thanks to the manager Shernette Crichton, she trully oversees every aspect of this incredible resort. One more thing, they do not have cooks, only top chefs.

We stayed with a group in the Villas. Our Villa was 54 right on the water. We had a beautiful room and our staff was very friendly and helpful. We had Patricia our cook make us a amazing authentic Jamaican breakfast one morning. Marlene the housekeeper was always offering to take care of anything we needed. Delton was our go to guy for anything. He was our fantastic butler. We struggled with the idea of being waited on the way the Villas our set up, wanting to do more on our own. Delton, Patricia, and Marlene seemed to be able to sense this, and always offered before just doing. You could tell that their main goal was to make us comfortable and they completely accomplished that.

I have been to Jamaica 9 or 10 times, starting in the early 80's. There is a reason why this was the hangout in the Caribbean for Ian Fleming, Errol Flynn, Noel Coward and others. It is a beautiful place, but it is the undeveloped world which many tourists cannot handle. Yes, there are dangers and one must be vigilant, but island has so much to offer. The food, the music, the green mountains, the waterfalls, the beaches, and the like. There is no reason to go to Kingston or to go to downtown Montego Bay or Ocho Rios at night. If you want to travel get a well recommended driver. The Appleton Rum tour is great and YS Falls may be the best roadside attraction anywhere. Yes, you will get hustled, but that's the rule in less privileged places. As to the drugs - ganja is part of the culture. Just say no if you don't want to smoke. The government is currently going thru a big discussion over legalization. Just be discrete. Half Moon is the British West Indian archetype resort the Caribbean. 400 acres. If you don't want to leave the property so be it.

We just returned from our 7th visit to this resort, and had a terrific time. The staff -- from front desk staff, restaurant servers, beach and pool attendants, kids camp counsellors and housekeeping -- are so friendly and helpful and make you so comfortable that it's hard to think of going to another resort. The property also offers so much for everyone -- adults and children alike. The tennis facilities are great, with lots of courts and many pro's to play with or take lessons from. Our children (8 and 11) were free to roam the huge property on their bicycles and they loved the independence that gave them, and we loved the feeling of safety for them. One of our kids had an allergic reaction to something she ate and was sick all night, and the housekeeping staff was fantastic in helping clean up, asking after her the next day, and even sending one of the chefs to speak with us about her allergic reaction to make sure it didn't happen again. Everyone goes above and beyond in being helpful and friendly. Without doubt, we will be back!

We just returned from spending our Spring Break at Half Moon Bay in Montego Bay, Jamaica, and it was the perfect Caribbean paradise. The facilities are all lovely, the grounds are gorgeous, the rooms are very comfortable, the staff are absolutely wonderful and the beach is breathtaking. We enjoyed all of the activities and appreciated how many different things they offer on the grounds of the resort. You really never need to leave the resort. We were traveling with all age family members (84-14) and there was something for everyone. Everyone felt pampered by the warm and welcoming staff. We loved it!

One of the highlights was going swimming with the horses. I thought the guides were very professional and knowledgeable. We are "horse people", and we own and show horses at home, so my expectations were that it would be a bit tame for us. Instead, I was very impressed by how well the guides dealt with all different levels of riders on our trip. Some had never ridden before and some were very experienced, but everyone enjoyed themselves. The horses were all well-trained to swim in the ocean but they did need to be encouraged to go out in the deep water. The lead guide, Sheldon, was on a very young, green mare and she was not an enthusiastic swimmer. He was great at encouraging her to go forward without scaring her. I was impressed by his horsemanship and his obvious affection for all of the horses. We talked about the horses and their personalities during our ride, and it was clear that he cares for them all. We have been to HMB before so I knew that Trina De Lisser, the stable manager, was a true horse woman and a professional, but I was impressed by her staff on this trip.

My husband and daughter went snorkeling too and they really loved that trip. Their guide was fun and helpful and he let them snorkel for as long as they wanted. They were amazed by how much there was to see and how beautiful it was. It was the highlight of the trip for them.

I highly recommend HMB for family vacations.

The 4 of us just returned from a last minute, 6-day trip to Half Moon and had THE best time - highly recommend this resort, especially for families who are active and don't want to sit on the beach the whole time. It really was the best place we have been in the Caribbean! We've been to dozens of 5-star resorts and this was truly the only one where we our experience far exceeded the expense.
For large families that are looking to rent a multi-bedroom villa -it's also perfect as the countless large planation-style villas are gorgeous. They all have a private pool, many with Ocean-views - I think there are upwards of 120 pools on the property!

Highlights:

- 10 mins. from the Montego Bay airport and the transfer couldn't be smoother - 4.5 hours from plane in Toronto to beach!
- it is not touristy and commercial - for those that want constant parties/shopping/food/booze…it's not for them! It's laid back while still being elegant and classy.
- its 400 acres and bikes are included so thats how everyone gets around…pretty cool. Golf carts are available to rent as well.
- wasn't overrun with kids and most were older like ours (8 and 10). Off on their bikes the whole time!
- food was fantastic! Morning buffet was included and the way to go. There are plenty of opportunities to eat at various venues throughout the day so no need to worry.
- evening beach party was lots of fun. Roasted pig was delish!
- lots to do for people that like to keep fit…golf course is one of the best in the Caribbean, multiple morning Yoga classes held in huts over the ocean ( fantastic!), twice a day spin classes ( which were killer-hard but great!), squash, and tennis is huge. Lots of pros on hand and about 20 courts. Snorkelling, paddle boats, Hobie-cats on the main beach (which is private and very quite). All equipment is included.
- the waterfront is varied along this 400 acre resort - ranging from a long turquoise-water main beach to pockets of pebble and rock beaches. There are lots of sandy little inlets along the way - great for suntanning, exploring and/or snorkelling….all private.
- They have a dolphin swim that was exclusive to the resort and that was really great for the kids.
- morning horseback riding in the ocean was spectacular!
- we had a 1 bedroom suite - # 92 which was perfectly located. Ground level, oceanfront with private terrace and close to main breakfast restaurant, sports facilities, yoga huts on the water, main pools. Any room around 92 is perfect for couples with or without kids.
- weather was fantastic!!! 30C with a breeze all days.
- the real highlight were the people. Both on and off the resort, they could not have been nicer and friendlier!!!

Tips:

- you can rent a driver for (7 hours - $200) to take you around. Very interesting and enlightening. We went to Negril Beach for the day. VERY touristy but beach/water is beautiful. We were bombarded by Rastas selling anything which gets to be a bit much. We had a few Red Stripes with a couple of them at a bar-shack which was fun and the highlight. Our driver took us to a lovely local seafood place by the ocean. Never would have fond it without him and the red snapper was outstanding.
- Sandra is THE girl to rent for any driving/day excursions - simply lovely. She drove us out to the Rose Hall Great House Tour one evening. It's a haunted 18th century planation that is suppose to be haunted. They have a candlelight tour that is horrifyingly fantastic - scared us silly but so fun!
- make sure to check out Scotchie's for a cheap and cheerful casual dinner. A 5 -10 min. drive from Half Moon. Sit at the bar and have Sonia look after you -she's the best! We love hockey and thought it was funny that they were airing an NHL game on the TV - watching our fave team (Blackhawks) while chowing down on great jerk chicken, rice and beans under a starry Caribbean sky was heaven!
- we weren't able to got to Dunn River Falls as we simply ran out of time. It's suppose to be pretty fantastic but that will have to wait until next time as will a trip to the spa which was beautiful - not enough hours in the day!

- Ran into people that had been coming to the resort every year for decades and now we know why.
We are thinking we might go back again at the end of June!
